Vancouver Glaciers
I've always loved this name for a hockey team.  Glaciers are common in Western Canada.

Great name, but does the rule still apply if a fictional city on this site uses it? The Yubay Glaciers are part of Steel’s THL series.

No, the only way that it would break that rule would be if we named them the Yubay Glaciers.  The only scenarios we are banning a name no matter what is if it is an NHL, AHL or IceHL team.  The second level of the rule would be we can't have teams with the same name in the geographic market.  And then, for example, if we chose the Glaciers we would make sure to not copy any logos, uniforms, etc.  We would be limiting ourselves a lot if we didn't tier the rules a bit.  We have had a number of submissions thus far that use the same name but in a different location.  But with that said, like the Highlanders, if people feel strongly about it they can reflect it during the voting.

I don’t mind at all! More for clarification. Thanks Gritty

Re: The AltHL - Group C Voting & Owner Application!

Didn’t even see that Hitmen naming, huh. Well, if I could, I’d like to change the suggestion to the Chicago Mob, as another way to reference those prohibition gangs and Mafias. As for the Highlanders, that was kind of my intention with it, to be a tribute to Goon in the first place.

Re: The AltHL - Group C Voting & Owner Application!

Puget/Seattle Sound - Seattle is both on Puget Sound and the hub of grunge music (the Seattle Sound)
Chicago Chevrons - I do love me some alliteration.
Halifax Haven - During the US Revolutionary War, Halifax was flooded with Loyalist refugees and British troops. It is currently a safe harbor for ships.
Colorado Haymakers - Hay is one of CO's biggest agricultural products. Plus, fighting in hockey is a thing.
Brooklyn Blossoms - Before you get a big apple, you need a big blossom.
Vancouver Visitors - Many films use Vancouver as a filming location because of its tax breaks.
Portland Aerials - Portland has one of two aerial trams in the U.S.
Quebec Inlets - Quebec City is on the inlet of the St. Lawrence.

Re: The AltHL - Group C Voting & Owner Application!

Seattle Sound: With the music scene that calls Seattle home I'm sure we can produce an awesome look
Halifax Kelpie: They're a Celtic Mythological Water Horse creature, that can also be seen on the Halifax Coat of Arms
Chicago Outfit: Like others, I wanna reference the old-school mob that helped build Chicago's character.
Colorado Stegos: Did you know that Colorado has a state fossil? and it's the Stegosaurus
New York Sentinels: For New York's Finest as they watch over a sleepless City
Quebec Werewolves: Apparently Quebec has a history and myths regarding the Luop Garou
Portland Platypus: A little bit Oregon, a little bit OSU, all Portland weirdness
Vancouver Kodiaks: Different way to say Brown Bears.

Seattle Cascaders- Seattle is in Cascadia
Chicago Packers- Chicago has a history in meat packing
Halifax Clippers- Halifax is a sea bearing city
Denver Cowboys- Denver can fill the Texas roll for right now
New York Avengers- The Avengers are in NYC
Portland Loggers- Self explanatory
Quebec Beavers or Castors- Beavers are common in Canada.

Re: The AltHL - Group C Voting & Owner Application!

Seattle Spirits - Like, as in 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'. Also, Native American culture  connection. Expecting a link with the Duwamish tribe.

Chicago Typewriters - The mafia's weapon of choice (really it's the Thompson SMG).

Portland Larks - Oregon's national bird is a Meadowlark.

Denver Bighorns - Bighorn sheeps are common in the Rocky Mountains.

Quebec Hiboux - Keep Quebec French-y, people.

New York Dutchmen - This city used to be called New Amsterdam, before the English bought it from the Dutch and renamed it after the Duke of York.

Re: The AltHL - Group C Voting & Owner Application!

Here are more to come!

Vancouver Labradors - Labradors are the most popular dog breeds in Canada, as well as being Canadian. Interesting fact: Vancouver is founded in 1886, which is the year of the Dog in the Chinese zodiac. Well, I did try linking up between. Vancouver and its Chinese connection.

Vancouver Dragons - Or you can go ahead and choose the obvious.

New York Dukes - Again, named after the Duke of York.

Halifax Blast - The Halifax Explosion killed 2,000 people and injured 9,000 due to the collision between a Belgian ship and a French ship carrying ammunition.

Nova Scotia Bluenosers - The Bluenoser is a famous schooner from Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Also, how you call someone from Nova Scotia itself.

Nova Scotia Black Watch - If you want a tribute to Scottish heritage, at least reference their famous regiment in Scotland (that's short for The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland, by the way)

Nova Scotia Jacobites - Jacobites are supporters of the House of Stuarts who want to restore the throne and boot out the protestants from the Netherlands. Is it too political for anyone?

Quebec Bleus - Quebec City is traditionallly blue. Like it should.

Re: The AltHL - Group C Voting & Owner Application!

I honestly don’t think anyone in Halifax, or the entire world, wants a team called the Blast. That’s a possible reference to terrorism, and, like you said, an explosion that killed 2,000 people.

Re: The AltHL - Group C Voting & Owner Application!

Keep your submissions coming! I just looked at the group B vote and it is CLOSE.  Unlike the last group which had the Chevs and Rovers run away with the vote we currently have four very close races.  The largest lead at the moment is only four points! Make sure you get your votes in!

Re: The AltHL - Group C Voting & Owner Application!

Seattle Emeralds - it’s the city nickname
Chicago Breezers - throwback to hockey pants and the classic Chicago wind, plus imagine the logo ideas
Halifax Kingfishers - the bird is on the flag and it’s cool
Denver 14’ers - for all the 14k peaks and climbers in the area

New York Empires - similar to the Emperors suggestion but I preferred the direct reference to the building
Portland Reindeer - it’s weird and the sign always looked like a reindeer to me, plus they make the nose glow red during Christmas
Quebec Citadelles - for the famous Citadelle in QC
Vancouver Voyageurs - saw this suggested for Quebec but it works here too
