Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Our final team making adjustments to their identity are the West St. Paul Waves. The Waves left their iconic W, but removed the drop shadow and added a sash with "West St. Paul" inside. The W also changed from powder blue to navy.

The Waves made some changes to their uniforms as well, putting much more emphasis on navy and white than the powder blue. The stripe style is the same as the old uniforms, but the stripe colors have changed.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Finally, we have one expansion team set to join the Valley Hockey League. New Ulm is a town of over 11,000 with a long and proud German history. I would expect to see the Bavarians surprising some people and potentially having a high finish in the Valley this year.

The team will be called the "Bavarians" to honor the cities German heritage. The town was actually developed by immigrants from the Germanic state of Bavaria and named after a city in Bavaria. The Bavarians colors are blue and white, the colors of Bavaria. Their logo is a diamond (or lozange) with other diamonds inside, the cities initials "NU" are inside the white diamonds. The team is already being referred to by some as the Diamonds due to their logo.

Let me know what you think, comments are appreciated!6.2.7

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Ahhhh, I have two teams to win championships on this board at the same time, what is life!?! Congrats to the Le Bleus, especially against the hated Greyhounds!

The Mavericks new logo is awesome, really excellent work there. I really like the new identity for Two Harbors and the new geometric logo is very nice. Modern but not too much so. All the other updates feel good too.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Some FANTASTIC updates you got there...even though it's gonna take me a while to get used to "Two Harbors Wolfpack" (as it lacks the alliteration that the Timberwolves name did).

New Ulm may be my new favorite jerseys of this series (and I would CERTAINLY buy one if they existed in real life)

Thank you, I'm glad you like them! And yeah, the illiteration was what made me pick Timberwolves originally, and I could see them maybe going back to it at some point, but I think the name change could have definitely been possible in real life, and thought the reasoning could make sense as they've been struggling for so long.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

The 1960/61 season has come to an end, here are the final standings.

Granite Hockey League
The Brainerd Boys finished atop the table for the 3rd time in the last 4 years, and they did it in convincing fashion, clinching the league title with 6 games left in the season. It was a battle for second place between the Bearcats and Norsemen, with the veterans from the Granite City winning out in the end. Fergus Falls would take the final playoff spot. The Storm improved from their previous seasons, but were still far outside the playoffs despite finishing in fifth. Little Falls continues to regress, dropping to sixth, and Sauk Rapids remained at the bottom of the league, but have been building a reputation as a physical team that isn't afraid to punish the other teams, making them a tough team to play despite a lack of skill.

Iron Range Hockey League
Hibbing continues to dominate the Iron Range, winning their 6th straight championship. Things weren't quite as smooth as the past though, as the Virginia Royals finished right on their tails for the second year in a row, finishing only 2 wins behind the Hounds. Grand Rapids looks much more well rounded than years past and look like they can be a dark horse favorite come playoffs. The final playoff spot was a duel between the Black Bears and Flames. Ely started the year slow, but turned things around in the second half, going 8-3-1 in that span, passing Chisholm and being one of the hottest teams in the MAHL. Eveleth remained in 6th and the Soudan Miners finished in last for the 10th year in a row.

Lake Superior Hockey League
In by far the most competitive league in the MAHL, we saw 6 very good teams battle all season long. The defending champs took home their 9th Lake Superior championship, beating out Cloquet and Superior who finished just a couple games behind in second and third. The three remaining teams were just as close, this time for the final playoff birth. Thunder Bay wound up in fourth, but finished below .500, yet are still considered serious contenders in the playoffs. That means that the Hornets and Wolfpack miss out on the post season despite having very good teams.

Northland Hockey League
All Aboard! The Thief River Falls Railers claimed their first ever league championship and look poised to do some serious damage in the playoffs. Roseau remained in second place, posting another all around solid year. The Ice dropped to third this season, it appears that age is finally beginning to take its toll on Polich and co, International Falls is still very good though and should not be looked past, especially when at home. One of the biggest surprises of the season was the reemergence of the Warroad Lakers after finishing in second last just 2 years ago. Fort Frances and Bemidji both had good seasons where they finished right around .500 but they both failed to reach the postseason, Fort Frances was able to win the Can-Am cup against the Ice though, their second time doing so. Baudette seems to have finally found a game plan that works for them as they move up from the basement to seventh. Steinbach dropped to 8th this year. The Barbarians struggled through injuries all season, losing their starting goalie and star center Irv Krentz for most of the year. The last two teams are the Titans and Huskies who both regressed quite a bit due to losing players. Players from both teams have mentioned not wanted to travel to all of these places like Steinbach, International Falls and Fort Frances which are all multiple hour drives from Fargo-Moorhead, causing a loss in talent.

Twin Cities Hockey League
The V's added yet another league title to their ever growing trophy case, this being their 16th in franchise history. The Vulcans picked up where they left off, rising to second place. The Mighty Millers dropped to third, but still look very dangerous come playoffs. The St. Paul Saints finally did it, they made the playoffs. After 7 years of being just outside of the top 4, the Saints will finally be marching in the postseason once again. Edina finished in 5th for the second year in a row, the Cake Eaters looked very good all season long, but will not see the playoffs, their expansion brothers from Bloomington took 6th. The wood slab rivalry was very present this year between the Mavs and Waves, games between these two were very physical, with fights not uncommon. The final game of the year actually was between these two, with the season series tied at 1 apiece and the two tied in the standings. The Waves wound up on top, breaking the 3 year losing streak. Stillwater saw their best season since rejoining the league, finishing in 9th. The Bruins took a step back after a good season last year (by their standards), and the Braves dropped to last in the league.

Valley Hockey League
The Mustangs reclaimed the top spot in the Valley, beating out Mankato who dropped to second. The New Ulm Bavarians turned some heads in their first year, taking third. The final playoff spot was taken by the Rochester Robins who had a good second half to beat out the Mavericks for that spot. Red Wing suffered a lot of injuries, causing them to fall after a great year a season ago. Albert Lea looked better than a year ago, but still stuggled most of the year. La Crosse looked took a big step back after almost making the playoffs last year, some are beginning to say it was a fluke, but only time will tell. And at the bottom we have the Winona Wildcats who had a very rough year, only winning 3 games.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Unrelated to the season but I love how satisfying it is to see all the logos together. Also a big fan of the power rankings! It gives you a feeling who had the best record without having to do all the records!
