1960 Kellogg Cup Playoffs, Knockout Round Day 1


Bemidji Blue Ox vs Duluth Hornets
Eichstadt led his Ox to a first round victory over the Hornets, scoring both of his teams goals in the 2-0 shut out.

Brainerd Lumberjacks vs Rochester Robins
The "Brainerd Boys" as they have become known as, are the young core that have been making waves throughout the MAHL all season, the young stars helped the Jacks coast past the Robins with a comfortable 3-1 victory. The Robins only were able to get 9 shots on goal in the game, while the Lumberjacks put up a startling 46.

Chisholm Flames vs Grand Rapids Moose
The best game of day one was the Iron Range match up between the Flames and Moose. Two evenly matched teams who split the season series against one another lived up to the hype heading into the game. Grand Rapids struck first late in the first, and netted another less than a minute later to head into the first intermission up 2-0. Chisholm came out for the second looking like a different team, and would go on to tie things up with one goal in the second and another in the third to force overtime. The Flames would continue to outplay the Moose in overtime until Dave Lasky buried a one timer past the Rapids goalie, sending the Flames to the second round.

Thief River Falls Railers vs Red Wing Chiefs
Thief River came out fast and didn't let their foot off the gas. The Railers scored 2 in the first, and 1 in the second and third while not giving the Chiefs anything on offense, taking a 4-0 win and a lot of momentum into the second round.6.2.5

Your bracket image appears to have the winners for Day 2 listed, just without their logos. Don't know if they're accurate, but there's definitely team names in there.6.2.5

1960 Kellogg Cup Playoffs, Knockout Round Day 2


South St. Paul Mavericks vs Twin Cities Vulcans
Our first upset of the playoffs happened in the Twin Cities League match up between the Mavs and Vulcans. The Vulcans look like a much more serious threat than they have in quite some time. Their defense shut down Johansson and SSP while netting 3 to win and advance.

Thunder Bay Giants vs Fergus Falls Cyclones
A goal scorers dream saw 8 combined goals in this match up. Thunder Bay were the heavy favorites heading into the game and they were able to come out on top despite allowing 3 goals against.

Mankato Moose vs Rochester Mustangs
The top teams form the Valley did battle on a beautiful day on Lake Dorothy. The Mustangs struck first but the Moose answered with a goal of their own less than 5 minutes later to tie things up. The third period began and Rochester captain Ryan Pohl was charged with a two minute minor for elbowing, giving Mankato a powerplay. The Moose were able to capitalize on the opportunity thanks to Robby Rohloff who had a great tip in front of the Mustangs goalie that found the back of the net. The Moose would hold onto the 2-1 lead to escape their rivals.

Alexandria Norsemen vs St. Cloud Bearcats
Our third league match up of the day saw the Norsemen take on the Bearcats. This game turned out to be a battle of the goalies as both net minders stood on their heads all game long. The lower seeded Bearcats finally got a break thanks to a lucky bounce leading to an odd man rush that was capped off by Sauer. That goal would turn out to be the only score of the game, giving us our first big upset of the playoffs thus far.
