The 2023 Season is back for the Masons

Well, whenever it is, it's almost time for Opening Day! Like the American League, we here in the National League are kicking things off with a rematch of last year's LCS as the Atoms host the Masons. We beat them in that one, and we'll look to get our *checks notes* 2024 off on the right foot by doing so again. Of course, we've got some unfinished business beyond that, too. Here's to a great season ahead, and hopefully the #03dTimesTheCharm #UpAndAtom

The Invaders beat the Emeralds big to advance to the West Finals for the third consecutive year, and for the third consecutive year, our opponent is the Kansas City Marshals, who have beaten us the last two times. Of course, the major difference is that this year, we're the #2 seed and they're the #1, so we're shipping up to KC to try and get revenge for the last two years. The other big difference is that we're mostly healthy this time around (with one notable and obvious exception) while the Marshals are the ones dealing with the injury bug, but we can't take that for granted. Leading us into our biggest game of the year is Albuquerque's second-highest scorer on the season, G/F Jaylen Brown.

wow, what a series, and especially the final game! I love the scene at the end, especially the detail of getting awarded the cup on the train ride home. that's one they'll tell stories about. looking forward to the offseason!

glad the mabl is back, and it's looking great so far! the brooklyn-nyc writeup was fantastic. that said, I'm curious what happened in the west, since it looks like lakers tied with republic at the top. I assume there was a tiebreaker somewhere in the mix, but it wasn't explained, and I would've thought we would've gotten some sort of highlight of what happened down the stretch with those teams like we got in the east. anyway, this has been enthralling so far and I'm excited for the bees to win all of the championships after 1947

We're back! We never left! But also, we're back!

The fine* folks** over at sportslogos.net recently held a uniform redesign contest for the Texans, and I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring. I didn't make the cut for the site, but with the team unveiling a new set of uniforms today, I figured what better time to show mine off?

TBH I'm not quite sure how this fits with the theme of this series - it's not like Houston has a particularly bad set of uniforms, and I don't think I've necessarily fixed anything. That said, it's not that I don't have a point here. When the Texans unveiled their Battle Red alternate helmets this past year, I saw a lot of people praising them for having a unique look. The thing is, they're right - no team with a navy primary jersey wears a red helmet - but the reverse is also true: no team with a navy helmet wears a red primary jersey. Personally, dark helmet/medium jersey/white pants is just about my favorite genre of football uniform, and it's one the Texans already look great in, so I've decided to right that "wrong" and make blue/red/white their primary look.

Quick note about the contest rules: they wanted four jerseys and light blue, neither of which is a thing I would have normally done, so I'm showing you the set I sent into the contest, and then one with what I would've done in a vacuum:

Here's the graphic I sent to the contest. Like the actual uniforms, I went with a bull horn motif on the sleeves, but mine is slightly more abstract.

That's a pretty good way to finish off the regular season. The Invaders beat the Olympians and accrued the highest score of any team on the week. All that is completely behind us now, however, as we welcome the Seattle Emeralds to Albuquerque for our second matchup in three weeks. Also, for the second time in three weeks, we're featuring a player with the last name George against the Ems, as F Paul George was our leading scorer on the regular season. He'll look to lead the Invaders to their third consecutive first-round victory against a tough Seattle team.

A strong win in Paris puts Atlético back in the win column, and we'll look to start up a winning streak as we face off against the injury-riddled London Public FC. We're bringing the periwinkle look across the English Channel, and showing them off is a face we weirdly haven't seen in a while, F Son Heung-Min. It's not that Son has been underperforming, per se, he just hasn't really been the center of attention, but that changed last week, as he scored a goal and assisted on two more to lead us against Olympique.

We're so back. After a terrible loss against Baltimore and an absolute squeaker of a win over Boston, the Invaders looked like the dominant team that we've been for most of the season - the big difference of course being that we're doing all this with Joel Embiid still working his way back from injury. With a hugely important win over the Emeralds, we have earned ourselves the regular-season sweep over Seattle, and also the right to host them in the postseason, as the Marshals' comeback against the Olympians has locked in the West seeding. Before we see a rematch of both of those games, we've got a date with those very same Olympians as both teams look for one final tune-up before the playoffs begin. Featured this week is G/F Ayo Dosunmu, who came up big with 55 points and 24 assists against the Ems.

Incredibly, with a win over the Ghosts and an Owls loss to Milwaukee, the Wildcats enter the final week of the season at 11-10 - our first time over .500 this season - and more importantly, in the final playoff spot. If we win this game, we will almost certainly clinch our very first postseason berth. The one tiny, minuscule, almost imperceptible issue is that our opponent is none other than the Montréal Chevaliers, who have been incredible all season, though I should note that one of their four losses this season did come against Edmonton. That said, if we lose, we can still find a path into the playoffs, so long as we get some help from Winnipeg and Charlotte, so go Fly Guys. For our final graphic of the regular season, we're highlighting winger Jake DeBrusk, whose two goals and four assists were crucial against Chicago.

With another loss, Atlético are continuing to bounce around the three or four seed, which isn't bad, but we've been on a bit of a skid lately. Last time we played a team that was near the bottom of the table, though, we beat them pretty badly, and we'll hope to do the same last week as we take on Olympique, who sit at #12. With some injuries in some key places, we'll have a bit of a tougher time out there, but we do still have D Tosin Adarabioyo, who finished last week with 7 clearances and 3 tackles won in a strong defensive performance (despite the loss).
