Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

You outdid yourself with this round, S30. Some thoughts:

Grand Rapids: Great update. Much needed.

Kenora: I really like their new look, except for the extra shadowing on the numbers. It'd look so much cleaner without.

Little Falls: Love the new logo. I kind of wish the name was in white too instead of black. But overall a fantastic update.

St. Paul: Boo to teams forcing changes just for changing sake. Cream is so classy. The white look and the new logo lost all the flavor. It looks good though but like a sanitized good.

Warroad: Wild how just adding an outlined letter to a static logo can liven it up so much. Nice adjustment.

Mora: WOW. You nailed this. They look outstanding. The orange-red is perfectly paired with the blues. Love the logo and uniform set. The striping is gorgeous. I'm a fan.

Detroit Lakes: Another wow. Excellent work on the logo. Super clever monogram usage. Green and purple is a hard combo to pull off well, but you did it right. The white sweater is particularly nice.

Pelican Rapids: I really like this logo and color scheme. It's bright and simple and it just works. I like the striping motif throughout.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

1976/77 Regular Season - North

The Lumberjacks got back on top of the Granite after three long years not winning the league. The Jacks were very good this year, earning a 13 ranking in the MAHL. The Bearcats were a few games back in second, holding onto the Chunk of Granite. Alec made a big leap forward this season, led by a new group of youngsters to finish in third, returning to the playoffs after a 7 year drought. The new look Pilots were able to edge out their new rivals from Cloud Town who dropped to fifth, missing the playoffs. It was another disappointing season in Fergus with the Cyclones struggling to reach their potential, finishing well outside the playoff picture. Sauk Rapids, Princeton, and Mora all had seasons to forget, never really competing for a playoff spot, coming well behind the rest.

The Brookies are your Iron Range Champions, winning a two team race with the defending champs. Both squads look poised to make deep runs in the playoffs, both taking home hardware and earning top 5 rankings. Mountain Iron continues to rise in the standings, improving to third. Rounding out the top four are Chisholm, putting an end to their 14 year playoff drought by beating out Virginia and Hibbing. The Miners were also in contention for most of the season, but they began to fall apart at the end, finishing 1-6-1.  Tower-Soudan did manage to retain control of the Hard Hat though with Ely having their worst season in their long and storied history, beating out only Keewatin. Between the Miners and Black Bears are the Grand Rapids Moose who did not expect to finish where they did when the season began. The season began as planned with the Moose in the top 5 for the first 2 months of the season. Then disaster struck, injuries wreaked havoc on the Moose. The most notable of which occurred in a home game against the Trout. A race for a puck in the corner between a Trout defender and Grand Rapids captain Didi Miller turned tragic when the players got tangled up and fell. Miller went down and the Trout player landed on his knee, ending his season and potentially his career. Without their top player and a spew of other injuries occurring, the Moose dropped drastically in the standings, finishing in 8th.

We have a new champion in the LSHL with Silver Bay coming out of the blue to win their first title. The Beavers also earned a top 10 ranking in the MAHL this season, their first time being ranked. The Giants and Voyageurs both had strong seasons yet again, also finishing ranked. Le Bleus managed to keep the Rusty Skate for the eighth consecutive season, but they lost Benny Beaver to their cross town rivals with the Hornets making their return to the playoffs coming in fourth. Despite not winning the Skate, the Broncos did have a fairly good season, finishing just outside the playoffs. Grand Marais and Superior both had quite drastic declines this season, just not seeming to have the "stuff" they had just a season ago. Superior seems to be on the back side of their prime with other teams tending to out skate the veterans. Hermantown improved one spot with Two Harbors and Proctor trailing.

As usual, the Northland was brutal with so many incredible hockey teams. It was Warroad who finished atop the standings, winning their 5th title and keeping the Victory Bell. Steinbach may have dropped to second, but they are still just as dangerous as ever, earning the 8 rank in the MAHL. Fort Frances also finished ranked, coming in third and keeping the Can-Am Cup. Winning the battle for the final playoff spot were the Baudette Walleye who had an incredibly strong finish to the season to propel them past the rest of the middle of the pack that was all within a handful of games of one another. The only team noticeably outside the realm of taking that 4 seed was Blackduck who was essentially a doormat this year.

It was never really a question as to who was going to win the RRHL this year with East Grand Forks taking an early lead in the standings and never looking back. The Pointers ran away with their 5th title as well as the Giant Fork and the 11 rank in the MAHL. The story of the season was the incredible performance from the expansion Wood Ducks. Detroit Lakes made a name for themselves in their inaugural season, finishing ahead of perennial contenders Grand Forks and Fargo to finish in second, much higher than most had predicted. The first ever Nodak Cup was awarded to the Jets. Crookston, Thief River, and Moorhead all had meh seasons, never really even threatening the top 4 in the standings, just floating around the middle of the pack. The other expansion team in the league, Pelican Rapids, had a much different season than their counterparts, struggling to find their footing and winding up well in last.

Let me know what you think, comments are appreciated!

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Wow. Half of the top 20 are from the north.

The Moose are ... lost?

Silver Bay may do something.

This has been Short Takes.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Wow... just wow.

I hope Didi's okay. I think it's best for him to retire, regardless of whether or not he can play again.

I won't be happy if the MAHL doesn't mandate helmets after this...

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

One of my co-workers shared a story today about how she couldn't go to Canada because she has an OWI (Operating While Intoxicated) on her record. Apparently, it's a much more serious offence in Canada than it is here in Wisconsin.

My first thought was the MAHL and how that could affect one of the northern teams in the MAHL if someone on one of the teams got arrested for drinking and driving.

Didi Miller: "Oh noooo my knee!" *winces in pain* "If only I had a helmet!!" haha

Also, I'd like to point out a small error, Section30. It seems that you've simmed the Iron Range wrong this year. But it's only the Iron Range, the rest look like they were done correctly.

I also realize I forgot to bother you about the updates.

Grand Rapids: The fansare heard! But at what cost? I know you gave me something to take something away this year, but c'est la vie. They drop from powerhouse to a joke house, yet this doesn't stop their look from going...       A+ -> A+        it means more than it looks my scale is just broken.

International Falls: You're telling me there wasn't a sublimated scarf on their jersey this whole time??? Looks cleaner, and I like the small change for the numbers. B -> B

Red Wing: The color up top fits the theme, but I prefer the thicker stripes. C+ -> C

Kenora: The bolder KM is much welcomed, but I do find that M outline odd. The big "Rat Boy" (put that as my vote for his name) is a classic piece of hockey logo history. The jerseys are a huge upgrade, making the yellow/white touching much more tolerable. I'd say the blue set would be a personal favorite in the league if the outline didm't bother me so much. Idk my original grade, but they are looking like an A-

I'm out of steam so I'll get the rest out soon. Just so many looks!
