Re: History of the National Football Association - 1974-75 Season

So i guess the Zephyrs are the Yankees of Football and either the Bombers or Blue Ox are the Red Sox

Re: History of the National Football Association - 1974-75 Season

1961 NFA Offseason

9th Annual NFA Draftz:
1st- RB Joshua Barlow- Texas State University- Pittsburgh Ironmen
-The Ironmen bolster their offense with the best running back in the country, this comes after veteran and former MVP Quentin Brookes left during the offseason. Barlow ran for the second most yards in the countries as Texas State’s offense was one of the more potent nationwide.

2nd- QB Micheal Bauer- Oregon University- Seattle Lumberjacks
-The Jacks got local phenom Bauer out of Eugene. He didn’t throw a single pick last season and won conference player of the year out at Oregon. He’s going to most likely sit behind QB Elliot Hollander for the first few games of next season. Hollander is a traveler around this league, he’ll be a big help to Bauer to get him adjusted.

3rd- LB Aaron Rose- Southern University- San Francisco Whales
-The Whales pick up a member of the offensive line, someone they desperately needed last year. It’s expected they’ll try and get a QB next year, this year's class was shallow, only having one true good prospect.

4th- RB Sam Peck- Kansas A&M University- Los Angeles Tigers
-The Tigers load up on offense, oddly. They should’ve gotten a defensive player, they were the worst defensive team in the league last year. Anyway, Peck was a star, Kansas A&M isn’t known for their football, but as a senior last year, Peck became the program’s all time leading rusher.

5th- OT Irvine Carter- Chicago State University- New York Cannons
-Sandusky continued to get destroyed by defenders this year, hopefully they’re just a few more pieces away from a good o-line. Carter’s got a great build and is possibly the strongest guy in the draft, a great addition for the Cannons.

Other Notable Picks:
6th- RB Tom Fowler- University of Pennsylvania- Philadelphia Hornets
11th- G Mitchell Merrill- University of Colorado- Chicago Zephyrs
14th- OT Jackie Waterson- Virginia State University- Seattle Lumberjacks
20th- WR Wallace Rain- Florida University- Detroit Bombers

Roster Changes:
-New York Cannons make two big signings. They bring back RB Quentin Brookes and sign WR David Rossi. Brookes is entering his 11th season and is much worse than he was almost 8 years ago when he won the MVP. Coming off last season with Pittsburgh he put up mediocre numbers. This was more for the publicity than anything else. Rossi is a receiver who lost his job on the Zephyrs last year and barely saw the field, he’s hoping to make a comeback with the Cannons.
-The Bombers trade for DE Curly Smith. Smith was the pinnacle of the Philadelphia Hornets defense last year. A strange move for the Hornets as he’s a young great piece for their rebuild.
-Veteran TE Sullivan Moss signs with the Washington Pirates. Moss, while not the best TE, is a big upgrade for Washington. Hopefully one more weapon for Emmonds is enough for them to finally win the Champions Bowl again.

Coaching Changes:
-The biggest coaching change was that William Towles was finally shown the door for Philadelphia. He led the team to 5 straight Champions Bowls, was huge in the development of Eugene Addams, and has been around the team forever. The decision was mutual as Towles announced his retirement at the same time, as a way of hiding his firing. The Hornets promote former OC Kenny Sanders to HC and bring in Antonio Sparacello as his replacement. Sparacello was the OC at a top tier university; Texas State. Sanders has been another big part of the Hornets old dynasty and Addams’ development.

League News:
-The biggest offseason headline was that Commissioner Wagner was to step down as commissioner after this season and purchase the Los Angeles Tigers for himself. Joseph Wagner was the first commissioner of the NFA and has held that position for all 15 seasons of it’s existence. The purchase of the Tigers comes as a surprise to many as the Massachusetts native has never shown any interest in buying the team before. Nevertheless, Wagner’s transition to owner won’t be a hard one since the NFA as an entity has owned the Tigers since 1959. There are many rumors as to who his successor will be, at the top of that list is Randy Atwell. Atwell has held many positions throughout his time, most notably as the Gaels GM from 1944-51, the Zephyrs GM from 1951-55, and as the league treasurer since. Wagner and Atwell have been close friends ever since their days at University together.
-Commissioner Wagner also announced the next expansion council to occur in the 1968 offseason, slating the teams to start play during the 1969-70 season. When asked why he pushed his plans back another 6 years he responded that he was naive in his planning and that it would be irresponsible to start placing franchises without care. He also said that his main goal for expansion is to continue building up the western market. He noted several cities such as Dallas, Kansas City, and San Diego as markets he’s interested in seeing the NFA thrive in. We’ll have to see if his successor will abide by those rulings or not. Finally, Wagner also mentioned bringing the NFA back to Baltimore at some point and he’s reportedly been in talks with Jim Crain, the son of former Baltimore Bulldogs owner Pat Crain. It’s unknown what his plans or ideas are for that.

Preseason Power Rankings:
1st: Chicago Zephyrs
2nd: Boston Gaels
3rd: Detroit Bombers
4th: Washington Pirates
5th: Minneapolis Blue Ox
6th: Pittsburgh Ironmen
7th: Cleveland Rangers
8th: Los Angeles Tigers

Re: History of the National Football Association - 1974-75 Season

And here are the teams that changed up their look this year!

Identity Changes:
-Only two changes occured this offseason. The LA Tigers readjust their new uniforms, adding new white socks and helmets, and replacing the red numbers with white numbers after some legibility issues from viewers watching on TV.
-The Seattle Lumberjacks add a new special helmet logo. An axe that almost wraps around the entire helmet is added to both sides of the shell.

Here's an updated sig for any Chicago fans too!

C&C always appreciated!

Re: History of the National Football Association - 1974-75 Season

Love the updated numbers for the Tigers. Never would have thought to put the axe like that on the helmet, but I love it very unique.

I am going to hope the quiet offseason for the Blue Ox means they are getting better within and will be back to fight for the playoffs again.

The Blue Ox only had one real roster change in the offseason, and that was the main backup QB; William Redd who retired. Redd was in his 30's and hadn't done much over his career. The Blue Ox didn't get a real replacement, they drafted WR Elijah Wolfstein this year in the 4th round, who played QB his first three years at college before shifting to WR, so it's unknown if he'll be the official backup if O'Connor were to go down or not.

Glad you three like the helmet, it's been an idea of mine since the name Lumberjacks came around.

And to answer your question Rugrat. I sim using this site: https://schedules.footballguys.com/ mixed with this site: https://www.random.org/lists/ in a very complicated way that can probably be done much easier. Basically the first site assigns a schedule to any team I input, but I've found that the schedules don't change each time you put them in, so what I do to combat that, is make a list of numbers 1-12 to represent each playing week and put them into the second site to randomize the order of the list. I then assign one of those 1-12 weeks to the counterpart on the first site.
For example, if the Zephyrs play the Ox in week 1 on the first site, and then on the randomized list, the number 1, which represents week 1 on the other site, appears 3 numbers down, that week 1 game is now week 3.
I do this for every game of every team and using this site: https://wheelofnames.com/ I can randomize who wins the games, it also allows me to determine how close the games are by being able to increase the probability of a team winning said game. Like that Zephyrs vs Ox game, both of those teams are close in talent so I can enter each name in the same amount of times so the chances are 50/50. Whereas if the Zephyrs were to play the Hornets, i can sway it so its more realistic, say 85/15. That way upsets are possible but unlikely given the circumstance of how good each team is.
All players are made up by me, i have a big database with all the players and overalls, so I use that Wheel of Names site in the off season to determine things like more important players moving, or whether or not a player will get injured or regress in the season. This affects the probabilities in each week throughout the season.
For postseason games I just put each team in however many times just like a regular week. I do a best out of 3 though just to have more fun.

Hopefully that gives some insight and hopefully it's not too confusing. If anyone has any advice or just better ways to sim in general, I'd be down to hear it.
Also, maybe this will make the Zephyrs run a bit more impressive, but the past 2 seasons I've been honestly slightly trying to throw their games, giving a bit more of a chance to the other team to win, but somehow they still always win, even with RB Alfie Raschall injured, they weren't supposed to win either the West Championship or the Bowl, but they still did.

Well then make the Zephyrs game 99 to 1 in favor of the other team and about expansion one city is on my mind for expansion #BringDenvertotheNFA!

Re: History of the National Football Association - 1974-75 Season

1961-62 NFA Season:
NFA East:
1.Washington Pirates: The Pirates sought out another good campaign. Emmonds helped lead the team to the postseason for a 3rd straight year, even though the team itself had a little regression, they were still the top team in the East and were pretty close to going undefeated.
2.Pittsburgh Ironmen: The Ironmen slipped into the postseason by the slimmest of margins, led by QB Pete Blair who made a respectable recovery after missing most of last season. Blair wasn't anything special, and neither was any other part of the team to be honest, but they came together, pulled off some big upsets and made it to the New Year.
3.Boston Gaels: In what was some sort of hangover of the successes of last season, Boston drops 5 games. Weirdly though the straw that broke the camel's back was a loss to Seattle at home on the very last game of the season. If they’d won that they would be back to the postseason.
4.New York Cannons: Much like Pittsburgh, the Cannons were unexpectedly good this season. QB Jim Sandusky, much like Blair, wasn’t a phenom, although he did play better. The offseason acquisitions to the o-line seemed to make a big difference as Sandusky only took just over half the sacks he did last year. The defense also improved.
5.Cleveland Rangers: QB Ryle Hanson played mediocrely once again, and the former top 3 defense fell off completely, that Champions Bowl team from 3 years ago surely hasn’t aged well at all.
6.Philadelphia Hornets: It’s pretty painful to watch one of the best QB’s to play the game be stuck on one of the worst teams. This is the fate Addams’ chose though. He played well, actually coming in second place for MVP votes, but the team around him was awful. Without Addams it’s speculated whether they even would’ve won a game.

NFA West:
1.Chicago Zephyrs: Chicago clinched the NFA West 1 seed for the 5th season straight behind a 4th, yes you heard me right, a 4th MVP season from QB Scott Hogg. Hogg carried his team to another 10 win season. RB Alfie Raschall missed yet another big portion of a season when a knee injury sidelined him for the last 5 weeks of the season and is unlikely to play in the NFA West Championship. Hogg carried most of the offense while the defense was as firm as always.
2.Detroit Bombers: Detroit finally slips back into the postseason after Minneapolis has an off year thanks to injuries. QB Houston Henderson took a small stepback, as did most of the defense. But thankfully 7 wins was enough to make it this year.
3.Minneapolis Blue Ox: The season was very up and down for the Ox. They didn’t have back to back wins or losses till the last 4 weeks of the season. This was thanks to an injury bug that seemed to go around the western teams this season. Minneapolis thankfully didn’t have any long injuries, but instead, a bunch of small annoying ones. For instance, QB Burt O’Connor missed 3 games, all separate, two thanks to sprained ankles, one to a sprained hand sustained within the first 3 plays.
4.Los Angeles Tigers: LA had a promising year. QB Kieth Lincoln had an improving sophomore year, while rookie RB Sam Peck showed potential. Their schedule was the killer this year however. Having to play Chicago twice, along with having to travel to Boston, Cleveland, Washington, and Detroit.
5.Seattle Lumberjacks: Seattle, while it doesn’t look like it, made big improvements this year. Especially off the field, last year they were last in attendance ratings by a good margin. This year however, they weren’t last this year, which is good for the future of NFA football in the west. On the field, rookie QB and MOR winner Micheal Baeur had a great rookie season, hopefully he keeps this up because his skill set is very similar to Hogg’s in that he’s extremely versatile.
6.San Francisco Whales: The Whales were bad, as promised. Thankfully their future is in the draft and not yet on the field. The most exciting thing this season was the week 1 upset in Chicago. A buzzer beating field goal soared through the posts as Barber Field stood in shock that the best team maybe ever just lost to the team playing only their 13th game.

At the end of the season a report came out that son of former Bulldogs owner, Jim Crain, Commissioner Wagner, and his apparent successor Leonard Cherry, not Randy Atwell, had come to agreement that the Baltimore Bulldogs will be resurrected for the 62-63 season. The reported agreement comes after Crain, whose father was close to Wagner, proposed to pay to have the Bulldogs resurrected for the following season. Wagner and Cherry would hold a meeting with Crain and the rest of the owners and it passed a communal vote. The Bulldogs formerly played in the NFA from 1946-49 before relocating the team back to the Atlantic Players League, where they were founded in 1932, before they would eventually fold 2 years later. The Bulldogs won a total of 6 APL championships and were the most successful team in Baltimore’s football history, despite only winning 4 games in the 4 seasons in the NFA. Their resurrection will be treated as an expansion team however, thanks to an agreement with former APL officials who claim the original Bulldogs history, thereby meaning this is a new, unaffiliated to the original, Bulldogs team.

1961-62 NFA Standings:
NFA East:
1.Washington Pirates- 9-3-0 | 0.750
2.Pittsburgh Ironmen- 7-5-0 | 0.583
3.Boston Gaels- 7-5-0 | 0.583

3.Minneapolis Blue Ox- 6-6-0 | 0.500
4.Los Angeles Tigers- 4-7-1 | 0.380
5.Seattle Lumberjacks- 4-8-0 | 0.333
6.San Francisco Whales- 2-10-0 | 0.166
