Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

The 1931/32 season concluded and here are the stories.

Iron Range Hockey League: The Eveleth Reds finished at the top of the Iron Range for the third straight year. Hibbing is picking up ground and looks to push for a Cup. Ely didn't move but is getting older. Soudan finished fourth in the league meaning they qualified for a playoff spot at long last! Virginia, like Ely, is aging and dropped to fifth. The Rangers climbed to sixth and the Flames dropped to last.

Lake Superior Hockey League: Two Harbors, led by Captain Miles Potter, dethroned the Voyageurs atop the Lake Superior League. Cloquet improved past the Hornets, and the Lakers finished last in the league yet again.

Twin Cities Hockey League: The Victorias clinched the top spot in the Cities with a breakthrough year by their young goaltender, Joseph Molde. The Mavericks and Saints finished second and third. The newly merged Minneapolis Hockey Club were able to jump into a playoff spot due to combining their top players. This caused the Vulcans to continue to decline, but they still finished above Stillwater.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

1932 Playoffs Knockout Round:

  • In their first playoff game in recent history, the Miners didn't have what it took to advance as they fell to the Greyhounds.
  • In another playoff game between these rivals, the Hornets came out on top and advanced past the Broncos.
  • The newly merged Minneapolis Hockey Club didn't have what it took to beat the Mavericks.
  • The Saints defeat the Black Bears and advance in the wildcard bracket.

Second Round:

  • The defending champs squeaked past the Greyhounds and made the semi finals for the fourth straight year.
  • Two Harbors, led by Potter, sweeps the Hornets.
  • South St. Paul upsets Molde and the Victorias and advances to another semi final.
  • The Voyageurs look like their old selves and sweep to advance past the Saints to the semi finals.

Semi Finals:

  • Eveleth continues to dominate and advances to their third straight finals appearance.
  • In the closest series of the playoffs thus far, the Mavericks just inch their way past Duluth in a physical series.

Will the Reds go back t back, or will the Mavericks be the first team from the Twin Cities to win a Cup in nearly a decade?

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Game 1: In their first Cup final game in a decade, the Mavericks were completely outplayed by the Reds as they lost 4-1.
Game 2: The defending champs continued to control nearly every aspect of the game and won game two easily as well.
Game 3: With the series going down to South St. Paul, the Mavericks hoped it would give them the push they needed to comeback in the series. They were able to squeeze out an overtime victory on home ice.
Game 4: The Reds tightened up defensively and didn't allow a goal against on their way to a 3-0 victory.
Game 5: With their backs against the wall, the Mavericks got chippy. Taking cheap shots at the Reds goaltender and hitting anyone wearing maroon. The Reds were disciplined and took advantage of the power play chances given to them as they went on to win their second straight Kellogg Cup!

That Voyageurs championship patch was so nice I've decided to become a Voys fan!

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Prior to the 1932/33 season a couple teams made adjustments.

The Soudan Miners adjusted their jerseys by making their shield logo larger and in the center of the jersey, the striping remains the same.

The Duluth Hornets made their first major change in franchise history by actually having a logo. The Hornets new logo is a D for Duluth, replacing the Duluth wording. The rest of the jerseys are changed as well, the striping is much simpler and a shoulder yolk is added.

The 1932/33 season concluded and here are the stories.

Iron Range Hockey League: The Eveleth Reds finished at the top of the Iron Range yet again, and look to win their third straight Kellogg Cup. The Black Bears bounced back and finished second. Soudan continues to improve and finished third. The Greyhounds took a step back, but still made the playoffs. The Rangers, Royals, and Flames finished at the bottom of the league.

Lake Superior Hockey League: Two Harbors finished first in the league for the second straight year, and the Duluth teams followed behind. The Lakers clinched a playoff birth, and the Broncos fell out of the playoffs with many of their players aging.

Twin Cities Hockey League: South St. Paul remained at the top of the Twin Cities with the St. Paul teams following close behind. Minneapolis clinched another playoff birth, and the Vulcans and Athletics finished at the bottom of the table.

1933 Playoffs Knockout Round:

  • Ely, who is beginning to show that their next wave of young players could bring them to the glory days, easily beat the Greyhounds.
  • The Lakers, who clinched a playoff spot for the first time a few year, upsets the Hornets and advances.
  • In a battle of St. Paul vs Minneapolis, the Saints came out on top and will face their rivals to the south in the second round.
  • Soudan wins their first playoff game in 17 years and advances.

Second Round:

  • The defending champs shut down Ely and advance to yet another semi finals.
  • The Timberwolves shut down the Lakers run of good luck in the playoffs and advance.
  • South St. Paul sweeps the Saints.
  • The Miners celebrations are cut short as they lose handily to the Voyageurs.

Semi Finals:

  • The Timberwolves crush the Reds hopes of completing a three-peat as they beat them in 4 games to advance to the finals.
  • The Mavericks and Voyageurs compete in a close, hard fought, series where Duluth came out on top in game 5 to advance to the finals.

In this all Lake Superior League Final, will the Timberwolves win their first Cup? Or will the Voyageurs win their fourth cup in 6 years?

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Game 1: In the first Kellogg Cup final between two teams from the same league, the Two Harbors Timberwolves were able to take game on on home ice.

Game 2: Keeping the momentum going from game 1, the Wolves pressured Le Bleus the entire game, scoring 2 and allowing 0.

Game 3: The Voyageurs were able to use their home ice advantage and bring the series to a one game deficit.

Game 4: In a tight game, Duluth would score the game winning goal on a controversial "deflection" off the players skate to win it in overtime. Timberwolves players admittedly swear it was kicked in, but none the less the series will go back to Two Harbors tied 2 games apiece.

Game 5: In a goaltending duel, the Wolves came out on top with a 1-0 win.

Game 6: With the series back in Duluth, everyone expected Le Bleus to continue the trend of the home team winning, but the Wolves had other ideas. Jumping out to a 2 goal lead they held it throughout, although they did allow the Voyageurs to get one back, they buried them with an empty net goal to seal their first Kellogg Cup!

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

I'm starting to despise that damn red timberwolf! Great rivalry and a tough series loss for the Voys. Go Le Bleus!
