Re: AltHL - Owner Draft and Beyond

Those maps are really well done and interesting. I was especially interested with how Vancouver completely covered my section. This also just helped further prove that the Loons and Arrows are destined to be rivals and that Calgary looks like another team that could potentially be a rival to one or more of the teams in the Minnesota Loons organization.

Also, these minor league teams are really looking good, I'm also a big fan of the Blossums identity. Unique colors and logo, I can't wait to see the uniforms.6.9.0

At the end of the season, fans are speculating that the new farm team will be located less than 1000km from Quebec City, while the other will begin operations outside the province of Quebec. A day later, FC Macbeth announced the Owls' Triple-A and Double-A farm team.

For their Triple-A team, the Gatineau Fireworks will play in Gatineau, Quebec. The name refers to the Casino du Lac-Leamy Sound of Light firework competition held each summer at the Ottawa River. Visitors witness the bright, booming sound of pyrotechnics set to music.

For their Double-A team, the Rhode Island Hope will play in Providence, Rhode Island. The nickname comes from RI's state motto which simply reads 'Hope', which itself derives from the biblical passage 'hope we have as an anchor of the soul'.

With Macbeth announcing the names of Quebec's farm team, fans are expecting jerseys and logos to be unveiled soon. There is one only problem: Macbeth could not come up with a logo at all! His only experience was designing jerseys, as shown with the concept he shown at a sports forum website.

Needing the logos fast, he sends a request to any good logo creators for Gatineau and Rhode Island.

OOC: So, I don't know much about designing a logo that evokes the name 'Firework'. To anyone who's an expert at this, PM me and I'll tell you the details.

Well I think the Bighorns have the largest swath of territory: Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Wyoming, Nebraska, Texas, Arizona, Idaho, South Dakota, and even Missouri and Nevada could be claimed as part of my territory. Literally the only other team remotely close to the Bighorns is the AA Mounts, of which would be no TV threat.

On a semirelated note, here is the same map, but with triangles drawn between each team and its affiliates. In a world where each team wants to have local affiliates, overlapping triangles aren't good. In this world, maybe it's a sign you need to have a rivalry.

Some teams and their affiliates almost form a line. Indianapolis is 9.56 mi away from being colinear with Chicago and Daytona. I created a new metric, equilaterality, roughly defined as the measure of how close a triangle is to being equilateral. (Calculated by (Shortest distance from a point to the opposite side / Perimeter of triangle) / (3^.5)), formatted as a percent) Chicago's triangle is the least equilateral and most linear at 0.29%, while LA and Winnipeg follow at 0.50% and 0.53%, respectively. The most equilateral are Quebec and Boston at 13.63% and 11.65%, respectively.

The teams with triangle perimeters less than 500 can be seen to have local affiliates. San Francisco, Philadelphia, Boston, Portland, Minnesota, Charlotte, and New York all fit this bill. Teams with a 1000 mile or longer perimeter likely have a team or two out of market, like most MLB teams.

Vancouver's triangle, the largest by perimeter and area, engulfs Minnesota's completely. Montreal's engulfs Philly, NY, Boston, and Halifax's triangles completely.

Did I need to do this? No. Should I have? It remains to be seen. Did I? Yes.

Interesting! Where does Denver fall into both of those metrics?

Denver is third in perimeter and area (2nd goes to Montreal on both) and is in the middle with equilaterality with 4.06%.

Interesting! I thought I was really the only one that went completely out-of-market but I had forgotten about Hamilton and New Orleans.

Schulz, an avid hockey fan who lived and worked in Santa Rosa from the mid '60s onward.  Every morning he would have breakfast Warm Puppy Cafe, and would always order the same thing-coffee and an English muffin with jelly.)

As time is of the essence, the Dragons have opened up a contest for would-be logo designers for the Power and Beagles.  Knowing how eager fans are to buy merchandise and represent their team, he sends out a call to all would-be designers (Bay Area residency not required).

The winner will get LIFETIME season tickets to all teams in the Dragons family.

Re: AltHL - Owner Draft and Beyond

After keeping the press waiting for over 30 minutes, Balu the Bare arrived at the press conference to unveil the Founder's farm team identities. Notably, there was only one board.
"I'm pleased to reveal the logo for the Harrisburg Keystones. The logo for the Legion will be released soon, but unfortunately it isn't ready just yet. We're working closely with One Last Detail Studios and we've made some good progress, but it's not where we want it to be just yet."
The Bare then pulled the curtain away to reveal the Keystone's logo:

It appears the Keystones will share the Founder's color scheme, but we are unable to provide any further details as The Bare left the stage before anyone had a chance to ask any questions about the identity.

Re: AltHL - Owner Draft and Beyond

The Charlotte Racers will now proudly display the identities of the Greenville Reapers and the Myrtle Beach Skates. In a press conference, team owner and prosecutor Miles Edgeworth unveiled the logo and uniform sets, starting with the Reapers.

“At this time, we would like to proudly unveil the uniforms of the Greenville Reapers. The name was inspired by the Carolina Reaper, and how it’s spice level can reach deathly levels. Plus, the sight of the Grim Reaper using his scythe as a hockey stick kind of humored me a small bit.”

“Moving on to the Myrtle Beach Skates. In naming this team, I wanted to refer to an animal that was common on the shores of Myrtle Beach, and what better way to do that then to give a double meaning, as the skate fish is commonplace, and skates are of course used by hockey players”

“One last thing, I would like to give a major thank you to 3pointtally for the help in designing this brand. As you know, my job as a prosecutor doesn’t usually allow for much creative work. So as such, I had his help in overseeing this process, and we are both very proud of these resulting looks.”

Re: AltHL - Owner Draft and Beyond

Hours passed and just as the press were about to leave, The Bare came running into the conference room with another covered board.

"Look, I know this is going to look a little rushed." He addressed the crowd in an old hoodie that looked like it's best days were over around 2001. "But we're proud of the identity that we've created for the Legion and we know that we can always tweak it if we need to."

He then pulled back the curtain to reveal the primary logo for the Trenton Legion:

Gah, I felt that deep in my soul. I'm currently wearing "that" hoodie, the one friends and family are shocked still exists.
Nice work on your two logos! I like how you integrated the keystone with an H. The Trenton logo looks fantastic, love the usage of three patriots. I think the muskets need the outer white outline as well, otherwise I think they'll get lost on the jersey. Since I designed the Founders jersey, if want me to take a wack at sweaters for these guys I'd be happy to do so. No worries if not.

@Mr. Edgeworth. I fixed your links. I really like the work here. The G & R in the eyes for Greenville is a nice touch.

@QCS: Nice work on those identities! Having lived in/near DC on a couple of occasions, I really feel you nailed a look that is super unique but fits the city. DC is so international and that look carries that vibe nicely.

.

Thanks for catching that!

Luckily that's an easy fix.

edit: I messaged you about the unis. I'd love for you to take a shot at them
