Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

I was just thinking of 1992... Ben Wyatt maybe starts Ice Town in Partridge, MN to try to start an MAHL team, and fails, causing the Ice Town failure.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

I really like the new teams! The only thing is that it's a little hard to see a "6" in the Six's logo right now, mostly because the "S" kinda curves throughout the whole thing. Maybe reducing how far the "S" goes would help with that?

Thank you, glad you like them. I definitely see Shakopee updating their logo down the line and I'll take this into consideration!

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Due to the large amount of teams, the MAHL playoff format has changed to have teams come from 3 brackets rather than 2. I will be posting the regular season according to these new regions.

I wanted to try something new with the graphics, putting playoff teams in their home jerseys and non playoff teams in their road jerseys, as well as incorporating the rivalry trophies into the graphics. Feedback is appreciated.

1971/72 Regular Season; North

The Lumberjacks continue their reign, extending their Granite League championship streak to 13 in a row. The Bearcats were once again the first losers, finishing in second place for the 5th time in the last 7 years. Rounding out the playoff spots were the Storm and Pilots, bumping out the Cyclones for only the second time since 1954. Alexandria finished in sixth with Sauk Rapids in far last.

Eveleth is back on top at long last, claiming their first Iron Range title in 20 years, their 15th in franchise history. It was a three team race at the top of the table this year, with Hibbing and Grand Rapids finishing within 4 games of first place but winding up in second and third. Virginia inched out Ely for the final playoff spot, with the Black Bears going into a 1-7-2 skid to end the season, missing the post season. Chisholm remained in last place despite being a solid squad.

Thunder Bay continues to win the Lake Superior Hockey League in even years, pushing their franchise total to 11 (tied for the most in LSHL history with the Duluth Voyageurs). The Hornets and Lakers were once again in the mix, keeping up with the Giants for most of the season but failing to surpass them, finishing in second and third. The rest of the table was a bloodbath with le bleus ultimately claiming the final playoff spot. All four clubs that missed out on the postseason were in the chase for the majority of the season, climbing and falling past one another for the majority of the season, but ultimately missing the cut.

The big bad Monarchs are back on top, finding their dominant physical style of play once again and bullying their way to their third Northland title. The Stars didn't make it easy on them though, tying for first, but losing the tie breaker on goal differential, preventing Roseau from a three-pete. Steinbach had another good season, finishing with an impressive 17 wins. Bemidji came out of nowhere this season, jumping all the way to fourth and punching their ticket to the playoffs for the first time since 1960. With the Blue Ox moving up that meant that Warroad and Baudette missed the cut, coming in 5th and sixth despite being very good hockey teams and finishing above 500. There was a bit of a gap between them and the next three with Kenora, Fort Frances, and International Falls all having sub par seasons and missing the playoffs. Then in far last were the Black Duck Mallards who had a season to forget.

The Red River Hockey League was once again very lopsided, with the Pointers and Jets finishing far ahead of the rest of the pack. It was EGF who came away with their third league title, beating the Jets in the final game of the season to secure the championship as well as the Giant Fork. After the top two you had the middle of the pack teams, Fargo and Thief River Falls, who remained in the same spots as a year ago, returning to the playoffs. Fittingly, the two teams who missed the post season were noticeably farther in the standings, with both Crookston and Moorhead mathematically eliminated from the playoffs with 4 games to go in the regular season.

Let me know what you think, comments are appreciated!

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

When I first started reading the season recap with the new format I wasnt a fan, but as I kept going I liked this alot! A suggestion would be to add like a black like or something to separate the teams in the playoffs and maybe their league power ranking above or below the jersey.

I like the new format. Including the rivalry trophies is a great addition. Giant Fork indeed. I agree with Earnie, I wanted a black line to further separate teams, even though I like the home/away sweater difference as well.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Big fan of the new format! It makes it much easier to tell who made the playoffs and who didn't. However, I have to third the motion for a black line further separating the teams, just to make it extra clear.

I didn't even realize the home and away, but I still feel like a black line is needed.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Thank you everyone for the feedback about the new graphics!

I have gone back and added a black line separating playoff teams from non-playoff teams, as well as adding the ranking for a team if they finished in the top 20 in the MAHL rankings.

Sorry to think of this after you've changed it all, but a classic center line could be cool too since you're already using an ice background. But the black line helps tremendously. The addition of the ranking is perfect.
