Re: MAHL Redux

great to see some new faces making their way into the playoffs and some of the expansion teams doing well. probably rooting for fargo to make a run, and it'd be cool to see a team like faribault or montevideo win some games, but the cup feels like it probably still belongs to either eveleth or powderhorn. also side note, now that I've seen it to scale I absolutely love the old cart wheel lmaooo. top tier trophy

Re: MAHL Redux

Lots of good stuff to catch up on! Happy to see team nicknames coming into vogue. I'll definitely be curious to see which clubs deviate from your original series.

I really like Buffalo. Simple and clean but a solid look with the plum purple. Columbia Heights with the super nice monogram. Not a fan of grey and red stripes but the bones of a solid look are there for later. Now black and red stripes...mmm, tasty. Elk River looks good, I like that logo a lot. The shape is nice. Bloomington is unique. I actually like the thick chest stripe with thin stripes. Cool idea. Feels like that could become iconic. Minnetonka very simple. I really like the funky serifed numbers for Orono.

Hibbing can suck it but I do like the new stripes paired with their Tuscan stylings. Nice update for Soudan. Duluth feels like a downgrade, I really liked that Old English style. But I can see where you've been inspired by it. Proctor good upgrade. I like the update for Warroad.

Haha yeah the Old Cart Wheel is massive. I'm probably gonna have to eventually move the trophies to their own graphic once they become more commonplace so they don't cover everything lol.

Thank you for the feedback, I love hearing all of your thoughts! And I think you will be pleased with the amount of changes from the original series.

Re: MAHL Redux

You don't have to answer if you don't want to spoil anything, and I may have missed it being said I'm just wondering, will there eventually be Canadian teams in this universe?

Re: MAHL Redux

The Wheel is incredible, and I'm now picturing a situation where the team that wins it tries to skate with it in celebration and a player takes an injury because it's huge.

As far as the playoffs go, clearly I'm rooting for Superior and La Crosse.

There are actually two Canadian clubs already in the Northland League, Morden and Fort Frances. I will say that the MAHL won't expand as far into Canada as it did the first time (sorry Winnipeg) but there will still be plenty of Canadian representation.

Haha, I imagine the winning club would probably just roll it around rather than carry it but the image of someone trying to lift it and getting crushed is very funny. And I would expect nothing less for your rooting interests lol

Re: MAHL Redux

1915 North Playoffs

Eveleth Hockey Club vs Alexandria Hockey Club
Eveleth had no problem dealing with the West Central champs, putting on an offensive clinic and systematically dismantling the Alek defense on their way to an 8-0 shutout victory. With the win the Reds will be making their 8th Super Series appearance in the 9 year history of the tournament.

White Earth Hockey Club vs Ely Hockey Club
Things started off slow in Mahnomen as the White Earth Hockey Club took on Ely in their first ever playoff contest. The first goal of the game didn’t come until the second period when the visitors converted on a rebound to take a 1-0 lead. That would prove to be Ely’s only lead of the game as White Earth soon tied it up before taking a 3-1 lead heading into the second intermission. The visitors made it a one goal game early in the third but a pair of White Earth goals would put it out of reach and secure a 5-2 victory for the home team. For the first time in club history, the White Earth Hockey Club is heading to St. Paul!

St. Cloud Hockey Club vs Fargo Hockey Club
The Red River champions were in for a rude awakening in the Granite City as St. Cloud proved just how good they really are. The three loss Granites came out flying, scoring on their first shot on goal and never looking back. Fargo found themselves in a three goal hole after 20 minutes, finally getting on the scoreboard midway through the second but the damage had only gotten worse. By the time the referee blew his whistle after 60 minutes of play the scoreboard read 7-1 in favor of the home side. For the first time since 1908, St. Cloud is heading back to the Super Series!

Superior Hockey Club of Wisconsin vs International Falls Hockey Club
The curse is finally broken! After four failed tries, the Superior Hockey Club of Wisconsin has won a playoff game! Four heartbreaking losses in a five year span left a bad taste in the mouths of the Sconnie players who took it upon themselves to make this year different. International Falls weathered the storm as best they could in the first, holding the Sconnies to just two goals on 19 shots while scoring one themselves to make it 2-1 after one, but the floodgates opened in the second. Superior unloaded four unanswered in the middle frame, burying International Falls in a 6-1 hole heading into the third. International Falls got one 13 minutes into the third to make it a four goal game, but Superior netted their seventh with under 5 minutes to play to put the game to bed for good. For the first time ever the Superior Hockey Club of Wisconsin is heading to the Super Series, knocking out the Northland champs by a final score of 7-2.

Re: MAHL Redux

1915 South Playoffs

Powderhorn Hockey Club vs La Crosse Hockey Club
Powderhorn put their firepower on full display in this one as they unloaded on the Driftless Area champions, putting double digits on the scoreboard on their way to their fourth Super Series appearance in the last six years. La Crosse netted a pair of pity goals that were meaningless in the grand scheme of things with Powderhorn lighting the lamp a whopping 11 times in the contest.

Stillwater Hockey Club vs Faribault Hockey Club
We had a defensive showdown in Stillwater as the St. Croix champs welcomed Faribault to town. We remained scoreless through 20 with the first goal of the game coming just shy of midway through the contest when Stillwater smacked home a rebound to go up 1-0. Faribault would tie things at one with 4:25 left in the second and it would remain level until late. Stillwater got a lucky bounce that led to an odd man rush resulting in the go-ahead goal with under 10 minutes left in regulation. With both the crowd and momentum on their side Stillwater would go on to pin Faribault in their own zone for nearly two full minutes. Gassed, the defenders were unable to keep up with the teamwork of the hosts who found an open man in the high slot for a shot that whistled past the goaltender and into the back of the net. Stillwater would hold onto that 3-1 lead until the final whistle, sending them to the Super Series for the first time in club history!

Richfield Hockey Club vs Plymouth Hockey Club
Some will call it an upset, others will say they were equally matched. Whatever the case may be, there were definitely some upset folks in Richfield after the non-champions from Plymouth took down the West Metro champs. The game was very even throughout with neither team leading by more than one at any point and both teams leading at one point. It was back and forth all game long. One team would score, then the other. When the dust settled after 60 minutes though it was the visitors who were victorious, taking down the Tigers by a score of 4-3 to advance to their first ever Super Series. In doing so, Plymouth becomes the second team in MAHL history to have reached the Super Series before winning a league title (Ely being the other).

Anoka Hockey Club vs Montevideo Hockey Club
The Anoka County Fairgrounds were packed as fans filled the bleachers to watch their Boys in Blue take on Montevideo. Monte struck first, extending their lead to 2-0 before Anoka got on the scoreboard and later tied it before the end of the period. Anoka scored their third in a row early in the second before Montevideo got back on the board to make it level once again. Anoka took their second lead of the game late in the period and never looked back. They added to their lead in the third, making it 5-3 before Monte scored on a breakaway to make it a 5-4 game with 12 minutes left to play. Anoka buried the final dagger in Montevideo’s season when a shot found the back of the net with less than three minutes left to play to put them back up by a pair. For the third time in the last four years, the Anoka Hockey Club is heading to the Super Series!

Re: MAHL Redux

1915 Super Series Bracket
The committee of media from around the state met in St. Paul to seed the 1915 Kellogg Cup Super Series participants.

The 1 seed was heavily contested but ultimately given to Powderhorn with Eveleth getting the 2 spot. St. Cloud was the unanimous 3 seed and is considered the dark horse favorite this year outside the big two. The 4 spot was given to Superior and they will face off against 5th seeded Anoka. The lowest seeded northern club is White Earth in the 6 spot with Stillwater earning the 7 seed and non-champion Plymouth being the consensus 8 seed.

Who do you want? Who do you think will win?

Let me know what you think, comments are always appreciated!
