Re: MAHL Redux

The final two identity changes both come from down in the Minneapolis Hockey League.

Minneapolis Hockey Club
After wearing the same thing they’ve worn since the first hockey game in the history of the Twin Cities, the Minneapolis Hockey Club has adopted a completely new look. Their old english M is retired, dropped in favor of a block M inside an oval. The team also adopted purple as their new official team color and changed their number font to a different block style.

Their new sweaters are purple with white cuffs at the ends of the sleeves. The new M-oval logo is placed front and center and is considerably smaller than on their previous set. The team opted for inverted socks, going with white socks featuring a single purple stripe.

Phoenix Athletic Club
Finally we have the Phoenix Athletic Club in St. Paul who are the final team to make a uniform change this offseason. The Phoenix wanted to add some more color to their uniforms, adding a single gold stripe to both the sleeves and socks. Everything else remains exactly the same.

Re: MAHL Redux

I really like seeing the real life inspiration. Especially for this very early time period! Very cool addition.

I like Brooklyn with their alternating green and black stripes a lot. The new color and M for Minnie is also cool.

I really like the new Ely look! I am a bit disappointed that Brainerd dropped the flannel, though.

Thank you, I'm glad you like that inclusion! The real life inspiration is something that I really wanted to try and incorporate more into this version of the MAHL than I had the first time around. Since there are so many teams in the MAHL that really existed at some point IRL I wanted to try and incorporate those designs here so everything is as realistic as possible. After all, nothing is more realistic than reality!

I'm glad you like the changes for Minneapolis and the sweaters for Brooklyn, I'm really happy with how both of those turned out.

Thank you! I'm really happy with how the new logo for Ely turned out. If it wasn't obvious it was inspired by the White Sox logo but I think it works really well for Ely as well.

I'm also sad about Brainerd dropping the flannels, but I felt like they were overdue for the change to traditional sweaters.

Re: MAHL Redux

Early in the season, the North Shore area was hit by a devastating storm on November 27th & 28th that wreaked havoc on the ships on Lake Superior. The storm became known as the “Mataafa Storm”, named after the SS Mataafa, one of the 29 ships that were lost or damaged during the storm. Other ships that sank off the North Shore of Minnesota include the SS Lafayette, Madeira, & the George Herbert. All in all, the storm caused an estimated $3.5 million in shipping losses and left 36 men dead. To call it a disaster would be an understatement. In response to the storm a new lighthouse is being built near the site of the Madeira shipwreck between Two Harbors & Silver Bay. The Split Rock Lighthouse is set to become the biggest lighthouse in the state.

Arrowhead Hockey Association
It was a tale of two halves in the Arrowhead with a distinct gap between the top and bottom six of the league. The mighty Reds of Eveleth took home the Miners Memorial Cup yet again, making that 6 AHA titles in the past 7 years for what many consider to be the best hockey team in the United States of America. Soudan Mine, Two Harbors, & Duluth were hot on their tails, all finishing within two wins of Eveleth at the top of the table. The Zenith Athletic Club and Superior Hockey Club of Wisconsin finish off the top half of the league, both with winning records by seasons’ end. Virginia, Cloquet, & Grand Rapids all had losing seasons but still boasted decent hockey teams capable of upsetting the big dogs on occasion. Ely and Hibbing both had 6 win campaigns, failing to live up to the expectations they had coming into this season. And down at the bottom of the ladder we have Chisholm with a measly four wins.

Re: MAHL Redux

Central Minnesota Hockey League
For the first time ever, we have co-champions of a league. Both Brainerd and Little Falls finished the season with 14-8-2 records. They split the season series 1-1 and will share ownership of the Lake Bowl as joint first place finishers. This is the third time Brainerd has won the Bowl, repeating as champs from last year along with their original 1902 title. For Little Falls though, this is the first time the team has won silverware, clinching their first title in club history. It was very nearly a three way tie for the trophy with St. Cloud finished the season just 1 point behind the top two. Alexandria shot back up the table, going from last place to one win away from the title in the span of one season. Most of the league was very evenly matched and it led to a big group of clubs finishing right around .500 for the season. Those teams were Wadena, Bemidji, Park Rapids, Pelican Rapids, Fergus Falls, & Detroit. There weren’t any really bad teams, but at the bottom of the league we had Aitkin, Blackduck, & Sauk Rapids who all had years they would like to forget.

Re: MAHL Redux

Red River Hockey League
For the first time ever, the Pembina County Hockey Club are Red River Hockey League champions. They took home the Red River Cup with a 16-5-1 record, sweeping the season series over their arch rivals from Kittson County who had a tough go of things, finishing 10th. Grand Forks and Thief River Falls were right in the mix for the Cup as the season drew to a close, but were forced to settle for second and third respectively. Crookston, Moorhead, Red Lake Falls, & Fargo all had good hockey teams that finished around .500 for the season. East Grand Forks and Warren tied for 8th with eight wins each. The aforementioned Kittson County Club also had eight wins on the year, but they only had one tie compared to EGF & Warren who each had three. Grafton and Ada remained at the bottom of the standings for the second year in a row. The Hearts had a really tough go of things, managing just two wins for the entire season, one against Warren and one against EGF.
