It's cool to see your Pacific HC logo in a different application, I actually think it works even better for football. The simplified color scheme is nice as well. The trident on the helmet is a bit much, I like it much better as the pant stripe but overall I think it's a solid team.

I really like Hiroshima. The background story is cool to see incorporated. Part of me wants to see the middle parts between the arrows filled in white on the helmet but I also like the way it's more subtle on the helmet. Either way, I like them. They remind me of the Texans a bit, newer team and all. I think you captured that modern city essence really well. They feel like a team that would be really good at social media. Good stuff.

Thanks! Hiroshima was another team I wasn't certain about, I'm glad to know they're up to snuff, haha.

So mostly, no notes. I think you're doing quite well with these. I wish the Steel had more contrast, right now it leaves something that has a really good premise kinda "meh". I have no problems with black/gray, but it feels like it's missing something.

The other one is the Pilots. You have a gorgeous logo for it, and it feels like the logo was built with stripes that should be used... and then it doesn't use them on the sleeves in favor of the logo.

Thanks! I agree that the Steel and Pilots need some revision. I'll definitely be taking a good look at them!

Re: Nippon American Football League

Tokyo's second team leans into the megalopolis' modernity and pace. Named the Thunder for alliteration, they have a color palette of navy blue and volt green. The logo is a T combined with a lightning bolt, skewed so that it's gaining speed and rushing forward, just like Tokyo.

To no one's surprise, the Thunder's uniforms are also very modern. Tasteful sprinkling of volt creates an exciting and bold look, featuring the thunderbolt design on the sleeves. In an extremely rare case for me, the pants are stripeless, featuring only the logo. The number font is a modified version of the Jaguars' old font.

The Thunder are a team I'm pretty proud of. They came together quickly and I feel like they provide excellent contrast with the Samurai, representing the history and future of Tokyo. To be honest, it's kinda hard to make a good-looking football team using a lightning theme that doesn't just end up looking like the Chargers, but I think I pulled it off here. Up next is the final team, from Japan's second-biggest metropolis!

Re: Nippon American Football League

When I think of Osaka, I think of skyscrapers, neon lights, and the future. When I visited, it felt the most "city-like" of any place I had been, even more than Tokyo. To that end, I knew I wanted a space-themed team in the NAFL and I decided to combine that with Osaka's forward-thinking mentality to create the Galaxy. Inspired by NFL Europe's Frankfurt Galaxy and the AltFL's Orlando Galactics, the logo is an O combined with a galaxy shape and a star in the middle. I wanted to use a purple and orange color scheme, but between Kyoto and Hokkaido, I felt I already had enough purple in the league, so navy blue and orange it was. To differentiate them from Okinawa, Osaka's orange is redder.

The Galaxy's uniforms are defined by the unique "galaxy stripe", a simple navy blue stripe outlined in orange filled with stars. Most of the stars are circular, but some are pointed like the one in the logo. The helmet, jersey, and pants all have slightly different patterns of stars - I don't think player-specific patterns would be feasible but some variety is important. Despite the navy helmet, orange is the primary color. I can easily imagine the team going orange jerseys and pants for an important game. White jerseys and pants would also look good, I think.

And that's team number 12! Thanks to everyone that followed along and gave feedback. I've gotten some excellent notes and I'm excited to make some changes and come back with improvements. I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays and Happy New Year!

Re: Nippon American Football League

TOKYO SAMURAI (OVERALL: 7.2/10)
LOGO: 6.9/10 - I like the logo overall, but there are some features that seem a little off. The nostril hole on the left comes up too high for the angle that the head is at. I think the viewer would see less considering the head is tilted down. Speaking of the head tilt, the helmet looks a little odd fitting due to it not matching the slight angle of the head. Another thing I noticed is that the facial features look somewhat flat on the face. The mouth is slapped on and the nose, while showing detail, doesn’t seem to come off the face. I think filling some of the negative space and adding more detail could really help bring this logo across the finish line. Let me know if you want to see what I mean. I know it can be easier to communicate through visuals. Overall, a solid start.

UNIFORM: 7.5/10 - The helmet design looks great. A solid, modern spin on the classic winged design approach. An unnecessary change, but I would like to see player numbers replace the T on the forehead. The T looks weak compared to the rest of the helmet features, and I think numbers would help fans being introduced to a foreign sport identify players. When it comes to the uniform itself, I’d personally like to see navy utilized more throughout. The home has great balance, but I am not in love with the road set. I think it would also be worth trying metallic gold in place of flat gold.

FUKUOKA SHARKS (OVERALL: 7.75/10)
LOGO: 7.5/10 - The logo is simple, but effective. I like how the colors interact and think that the slight gradient helps add to an otherwise straightforward visual. I would like to see more done with the water area (ripples/tears) to create motion and a more visually engaging  experience for the viewer.

UNIFORM: 7.8/10 – At first glance, the uniforms are stellar, but the more I look at them the more I question the need for that many sharks on one player. Out of the six fins, I think the two on the helmet work the best and deserve to stay. I think the color balance of the helmet works well and I love the idea of giving the gradient a place to shine. The cap fins do less for me, but still look good. I think replacing the fin with a tapered stripe with ripples (somewhat like the 2019-23 Jets) would be a good way to deviate while keeping things somewhat consistent. I also don’t believe the fins are necessary on the pants.

Wanted to provide more off the bat, but it looks like I'll have to chip away at these teams. I'll try to get to the next few soon. Great job on this whole project!

Re: Nippon American Football League

Volt is something. I think you do need the pant stripe to mitigate the volt on the pants a bit, it just feels like a lot right now. I think standard white pants with a dope volt and navy stripe would look a lot better. I do like the scheme overall. I don't like how the double outlines are mixed and matched. I think you've got to choose one or the other. I think the single outlines are much cleaner but I think the doubles are unique and could be leaned into further. I like the modified Jags font a lot for this team. Overall, interesting team that could be cleaned up a bit.

I like the Galaxy a lot. They're giving me modern Bears. Orange and blue is such a great color scheme. I'd like to see more of the numbers, they look cool but mismatched against the word mark. I like the galaxy stripe a lot. It's gaudy without being too much. I think the logo is giving me more hurricane vibes than galaxy but I still think it's cool. Osaka feels like that team that I would officially root against but secretly enjoy watching. Ha.

Nice work! I'm excited to see you dig in further with some updates and other things to really flesh out this league. Now of course I want to see you simulate it. Haha.

Re: Nippon American Football League

alright finally getting around to this. settle in

samurai: the bones are there all across this design but I have a few complaints. first, the face feels off. I think it's because the outlines on the facial features feel really thick - especially around the eyes. the nose also feels too big for the rest of the face. maybe this is an art style that you're emulating on purpose and I'm just not cultured enough to get it, idk. just looks weird to me. as for the uniforms - the helmets are great! absolutely love em. no notes. I just wish the rest of the uniform matched them at all. the helmets are red and gold and then everything is red and white with very little gold to be found. need way more gold in the striping; might even be fun to see gold pants

sharks: oooh, I love this color scheme! the logo is stellar; exactly what it needs to be and nothing more. the gradient works really well and the color balance across the set is really good. I like the helmet (and the rest of the design) as it is, but I am wondering what would happen if you swapped the sunshine and charcoal to keep the shark fin in the dark gray color. maybe the gradient doesn't work as a background color, idk. other nitpicks: the texans font doesn't feel like a good fit for me (I think I want something italic to match the rest of the vibe) and you know I'm not gonna like the dark-colored pants. very fun identity, though

frost: we've seen the logo before but I don't think I've commented on how strong of a snowflake it is, and the color scheme is another banger. the uniforms aren't quite doing it for me, or at least the jerseys aren't. I like the stripe on the helmets and pants but I'm not sold on the jersey design; feels too rounded and soft for an identity which otherwise has zero curves. I'm also not sold on the font you chose but I can totally see why you wouldn't have wanted to use sexy hexy for the numbers. if I had one request it'd be to see blue pants instead of purple on the road; think it could be cool and help give the blue more of a chance to shine

steel: I think my biggest bit of advice here is to change the dark gray to a pure black. imo that's why the iron worked and this doesn't quite work as well. right now it looks kind of muted and same-y but I think the black would give some much needed contrast. I might also go black helmet to let the logo pop a bit more because it's a bit hard to see. font is good here but I think I'd go with a solid black on the road rather than light gray with the outline because it ruins the stencil look a little bit. rivet striping is goated tho and I'm glad to see it everywhere

wildcats: reminds me of sam houston state. it's not quite the same but it's reeeeeeally close. uniforms are solid (apart from the navy pants obv). not much to say here because it's just a classic look executed well. so just to pad this out I'll say hey wear the gold pants with the white jersey because it will look sooooooo much better I promise you

knights: reminds me of calvert. logo is strong but if I have one very tiny nit to pick it's that I think the horizontal split on the shield should be a smidge higher. as for the uniforms, I definitely see the panfers influence here. don't like the orange and silver combo, but I've never been a huge fan of carolina blue with silver (or yellow with silver on the calvert throwbacks). would love to see the swords incorporated into the look somewhere, even if it's just as a little decoration on the hip or something

pilots: I'm glad I wasn't the only one who immediately saw portland grizzlies when I saw these uniforms. my biggest issue is the same one dan brought up; you've got this very obvious three-stripe motif built into the logo and then it appears nowhere on the uniform (at least nowhere that stripes are normally found). I'm also just realizing that the logo on the first graphic goes g-y-g but on the uniforms it goes y-g-y. but yeah need that striping pattern on the sleeves at the very least. logo is solid, albeit a bit strange for having a very prominent home plate shape for a team that's not baseball

monarchs: not sure about the wordmark here, but everything else about this is chef's kiss. the color scheme is ace, the logo is really strong, the uniforms work really well, and you didn't give them a pair of purple pants for no reason! only other thing is it might be fun to see the crown worked onto the top of the helmet like the royals (either richmond or ottawa) but it might be too close to the samurai, idk. can't complain tho, this is easily one of the best of the bunch

neptunes: sych mentioned! that was a fun couple of months, wasn't it. anyway, love the updated double blue color scheme. wasn't expecting the havana cubans font to work so well for a nautical team but pleasantly surprised. not feeling the helmet on this one, but I'm not sure why. I think the part I don't like is the trident, and honestly the wave on its own might be enough. the rest of it is good, apart from the blue pants, obviously

arrows: pimk! call it red all you want but you know it's pimk. the logo is simple but strong, and I love the way it works on the helmet with the arrows connecting at the back. the focus on thin stripes to emulate the arrows is a great play. but oh my god WHY would you EVER give this team navy pants. entirely unjustifiable decision even throwing out my (correct) aversion to dark-colored pants in football. completely throws out the beautiful color balance you've built with the rest of the set. burn them and then rethink your life choices before replacing them with pink ones if you want an alternate pants option. overall, great work

thunder: you and I have different definitions of "tasteful" and "sprinkling". completely agree with steel on this one that the stripeless volt pants are too much and that if you must have volt pants (which I think is not the worst idea) you gotta throw a stripe on there, although I get that it's hard to do that without just looking like the old chargers. I love the skew on the logo; it gives it dynamicism without going too crazy. good stuff

galaxy: ohhhhh yeah. ok let's start with the bad stuff. the wordmark is butt. doesn't fit well with the rest of the aesthetic at all and I think you would've been much better off with the name/number font. the only other thing is that on the arms of the logo (which yeah does kind of look like a hurricane) the outlines seem to cut off a little bit earlier than they should. I think you need a little bit more space there. other than that, though, this is nigh perfection. the galaxy stripe is inspired work and the color balance is really good. I'm a sucker for the dark helmet - bright jersey - white pants look, and orange is one of my favorite colors, so this is just pressing all of my buttons. way to end on a high note

overall, brilliant stuff. I feel like I had a lot of complaints but almost all of them were pretty minor. great job, and excited to see where you take things from here!
