Midwest Sectionals
Perennial powerhouse St. Joseph Jumpers claimed the Missouri/Kansas/Nebraska sectional title, but they once again failed to gain promotion to the Midwest Regional after falling to the Michigan/Ohio/Kentucky champion Youngstown Gallowglasses. East Chicago Inlanders secured the other promotion slot after topping the favored Inter-nash-ional Kenosha.
.Atlantic Sectionals
Erie Flagships punched a return ticket to the Eastern Regional Division after downing the Staten Island Ferrymen. Bridgeport Bigtop FC came out of the difficult New England sectional to wallop Atlantic City Boardwalk FC to nab the second promotion spot.

At midyear of the 1917-1918, it was the Baltimore Chimney Swifts who had the highest spot of the very congested top of the table. Four clubs were even on points, with the Chimney Swifts having the best goal difference. Most surprising was that the newly promoted Cleveland Longlegs were amongst the quartet at the top. Another surprise in the season thus far was the poor showing by the three-time Ultimate champion Milwaukee Brewmasters, who had been pushed down into a relegation spot at the bottom. Being only two points from safety meant that there was no panic in the Brewmaster locker room, but it certainly was unfamiliar territory for the historic club.

In Week 36, the Chimney Swifts began limping towards the title. A 0:0 draw with Milwaukee Cream City would be the last points that they earned for the season, but it would be enough. Cincinnati Scarlets closed to 4 points behind, but 4:2 loss to fellow contender Old Nassau 1869 in Week 37 pushed them out of contention. The Chimney Swifts ended the season with losses to Richmond Railers and Indianapolis Speedsters, but they could not be caught. Philadelphia Sports climbed to second place in Week 37, but a 4:2 loss to Old Nassau meant that the orange and black would finish in second. Sports dropped to fifth place, while crosstown rivals jumped up to third. With this title, the Chimney Swifts now have a seventh major entry to put on their championship banner - 4 Ultimate Division titles, 2 AFA Cups and a Football World Championship.
At the bottom of the table, expectations had not been high for the Milwaukee Brewmasters, and the predictions proved correct. Wallowing at the bottom of the table after a Week 36 loss to fellow bottom dweller Akron Vulcanites, they still had a mathematical chance to avoid relegation. In Week 37, they faced crosstown rival Cream City, who coveted the notion of securing the Brewmasters' demotion. Even though the Brewmasters managed to prevail 4:3 in the spirited contest, a win by Boston Gaelics over the Vulcanites meant that the Brewmasters would not be able to climb to 18th. Their win over Richmond Railers in the final week meant that they would not finish at the absolute bottom, but it did mean that they would nonetheless be demoted. It was a sad day at the Blatz Platz for the 3-time Ultimate Division and 3-time AFA Cup champion.
