With a close fought win (which we will claim as a win because we scored more points in the end and we're the better African team), the Golden Lions of Joburg started out the GEO Cup strong with a win. If we want to stay atop the group, we'll need to continue to win on the road against Alfa Roma. They dropped their first group match against Istanbul, so they're hungry to get a win against us. GK Jordan Pickford got his 5th clean sheet of the year, but instead we'll feature the likes of F Jay Rodriguez, who has scored 2 points (1 goal and 1 assist) on 5 shots since earning his way into the starting XI. It'll be the standard teal kits for the second game of the group stage against Roma. #StayGold

Well... maybe we've won, maybe we've lost. We're waiting. Also why we don't have the GEO Cup standings. But we still have a schedule, so we're ready to host the final pool matchup for the GEO Cup, and welcome Alfa to The Pyramid. We're highlighting 18-year old star Jack Hinshelwood. #TheGoldStandard

Fortunately, we're not in the same position as Eye. Unfortunately, it's because we lost, and we lost badly. With Atlético now sitting on one win and one loss in Geo Cup play, the winner will come down to our final group stage match against London Public. Public are in if they win or draw; if we beat them, then it gets more complicated, especially if Olympique also wins their match against St. Mungo. For the feature this week, it's hard to say anyone really played well, but we'll highlight M Sean Longstaff, who certainly can't be blamed for the fact that the men in front of him couldn't convert on the two key passes he made, nor for a good save on his lone shot on target.

Fortunately for Joburg, our path to the GEO Cup knockout round is a lot simpler and straightforward. With our dominating win over Roma last week, all we have to do to lock up Group B is either A) win on the road against Istanbul this week or B) score enough points over both Eye of the Sun and Istanbul to retain our lead even if we lose. We had a couple of great plays last week, with M Mo Kudus knocking in two goals and F Ollie Watkins scoring a goal late to seal the deal for the Golden Lions. Getting the feature for the final week of the GEO Cup though is M Bruno G, who contributed an assist, a shot on goal, and 5 key passes to keep the offense rolling. #StayGold

We did what we needed to do, and easily took care of Istanbul to win our group and make it to the GEO Cup finals. A playoff spot is on the line for this game, and our opponent is no stranger to us in Atletico. They embarrassed us in the first match of the season, but we both have changed since that game and are looking for a competitive rematch against one another. Featured for the final is our tournament MVP M Mo Kudus, who has scored 3 goals in the group stage as our primary striker. #StayGold

Somehow, Atlético not only won our game against London Public, we also managed to win the three-way points tiebreaker despite our awful showing in the second game of group play. As such, we get the chance to lock in our playoff spot in this next game against Joburg City, whom we haven't seen since the first match of the season. We beat them pretty convincingly back then, but both teams look quite a bit different since then, and a lot more is on the line right now. Our own Geo Cup MVP earned a spot on our graphic for the second time in three games, as D Marcos Senesi picked up another assist to go along with stellar play on defense, including two interceptions and four clearances.

And the first GEO Cup comes to a close, with CD Andes and Joburg City 94 punching their tickets to the playoffs with their wins.
What does that mean for the other 14 teams? You'll need to finish in the top 6 of teams (excluding the two winners) to punch your ticket to the playoffs. Since I don't know if I put that in an easy-to-understand way, the top 8 teams go to the playoffs. If one of these teams finish outside the top 8, then it will bump the team that finished 8th out of the playoffs.

If only the team got a little healthier with the week off for the GEO Cup Finals, but alas, it was not meant to be. So we head to Brazil to take on Club de Ragatas do Independencia in a clash of teams near the top of the table. Ragatas picked up the win to start the season against Eye of the Sun, so we're looking for a little payback and to move us up the table. Or at least maintain our position on the table. We're going to be in the clash kits for this one, and our featured player is English midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White! #TheGoldStandard

And, since Fantrax will no longer be correct for the season due to the GEO Cup, here's the current AltLiga Table!
