Re: Retroliga: The Saga

This is a really fun (and funny!) idea for a project, loving the deep space AI idea and the characters there are coming out of it!  Keep up the good work!

Re: Retroliga: The Saga

0001.bb (Ralphie Parker Edition)

Whilst JJJ von Heimer-Schmidt was getting some bugs out of his code, a new script was thrown together and the Deuce Portal gobbled it up before he could test it. Jumping ahead in the algorithm saga sphere, 0001.bb (Ralphie Parker Edition) spit out a brand new media portal with two reporters and sports desk anchors named Stan Deff and Hai Rez.

Stan Deff looked suspiciously like a cross between the Planter's Peanuts man and the Colonel from KFC. He was old school hockey. Grouchy and gout-filled, Deff was a pain in the backside but he knew more about hockey than most. (He an Oldie Oldfield played together back in the day) He was a bit of a Nostradamus when it came to plays on ice, leading some to call him the Wizard, which he hated.

Hai Rez was a dead ringer for an anime character. Vaguely Asian, big eyes, very short and petite, quite shy and reserved. She grew up as a photographer and media savant. She was a master with highlight videos and possessed perfect recall of every hockey play she'd ever seen. Her photographic memory was rare and incredible. Even being shy and quiet, she was a professional presenter and reporter. At least until Stan said something offensive and then her inner tiger would erupt, transforming from shy to ferocious. It made for great media.

The Deff-Rez Report will be the primary news outlet for breaking news and stories in the Retroliga, providing analysis and opinion as well.

Re: Retroliga: The Saga

0001.ba the fan club

The Deuce Portal: Baywatch Edition will enter prospective fans into its randomly-generated algorithm and decide on a team for that fan to support until their dying breath. Fans must agree to include a shoutout to the team in their eventual obituary. True Obits will receive vested interest in that team's fan club and board of advisors and be involved in decision making on occasion.

If you are truly brave, you may decide to cast your lot now with only 2/8 teams revealed and receive extra rewards. But if you must wait until more identities are revealed the Baywatch will understand. Mostly. Probably. The Baywatch will not judge if you choose to choose your own fandom. Probably.

Will you be a True Obit? If you are brave enough, sign up here.

Re: Retroliga: The Saga

0001.ad (After Death Edition)

VHS discovered that Inky Mauricio had corrupted the AA-Ron Edition script so he had to code a new one called 0001.ad (After Death Edition) to find more directors. AD spit out a new director named Max Maxsik, owner of Maxmax Inc, a Big Pharma company with bad reviews and shady business practices that still somehow owned half of the pharmaceutical world. Maxsik was supposedly a real doctor but nobody knew exactly when or how he graduated because he hadn't left his sick bed since he was five years old. He was diagnosed with a terminal illness as an infant but he still hadn't died yet, leading some to believe he had possibly discovered or invented the Hedge of Life. He became a nerd-genius and made a ton of shame inventing medical products. His nurse, Darnell, made most of his public appearances for him. Maxsik utilized Beezus' holographic technology quite often, much to the chagrin of his business partner, fellow billionaire tech genius Mark Z. Czuchs, founder of Atem and the social platform Facegram. Mark Z., the half-brother-cousin of Poot N., had lost most of his marbles to corruption and shame decay, but he was still one of the most powerful men in the sphere, keeping his fortune going by data-mining sphere citizens and selling it to Beezus and others. Maxsik used his partnership to form a new Retroliga franchise called Maxelltron.

He liked it because it had the name Max in it. For that very reason he had bought and bankrupted a company called Maxell from the 90's. That company previously featured a guy being blown away by sound but he thought that was dumb and introduced his Dalmatian named Tron as the mascot instead. The logo features Tron the Dalmatian in pilot goggles and a scarf clearly going very fast, which Tron never did in real life. Tron only sat on Max's polar bear rug all day. The Flying Dalmatians will feature Max Red, Maxmax Silver, Maxmaxmax Green, Tron Black, and SuperMax Gold in the color palette. The uniforms feature red sweaters with hollow shoulder yokes with triple striping. The sleeves feature angular striping and a hem stripe. The sets are paired with black pants. A custom [Note: I created this custom typeface number set to match the old Maxell logo!] number face adorns the jerseys, paired with a standard sans-serif for NOB. The jersey numbers have double strokes. Maxelltron also sets itself apart by introducing the league's only Third Jersey, this one a fauxback featuring black, green, and gold only with a flat vintage version of the alternate logo of the Winged M. This jersey featured slightly altered striping.

Maxsik hired a Skipper named Stef Stefanik to helm the team. Stef was of confused heritage and abnormally tall and skinny. Kind of like a giraffe. He had a very long neck and wore turtlenecks because he was always cold. Nobody knew why he decided to be a hockey skipper if he was cold all the time. His teeth chattered from cold when he talked so he developed some kind of twitch where he spoke out of the side of his clenched teeth which made him look kind of like Two Face from Batman. Despite all of that, Stef was a kind person and treated all his players fairly and somehow even put up with Maxsik. Stef hired Walt Waldrup to be his advisor. All anyone knew about Walt was that he was from Nebraska, wherever that was. Walt was the strong silent type. Very strong.

Syms of Maxelltron are also known to be strong silent types. Except for the other half of their syms which are a little nuts. Maxelltron games are wild.

Re: Retroliga: The Saga

0001.bc (Before Cheez-Itz Edition)

The After Death Edition spit out a new director, this one by the name of Amar Djeefu, of unknown ethnic origin. The pervading theory was that he was a former Malay pirate reincarnated and now ran a proper entertainment establishment called Ramaco Inc, which itself was a bit shady in origin. Djeefu, though discreet about his origins, was not shy in front of the cameras. He lived for the spotlight. His extra-wide toothy smile and pretty decent skin care regimen administered by a quartet of paid assistants kept him looking good all the time. He owned movie studios in every country and could often be found in a different one every week. He purchased the video rental store Blockbuster because he liked their colors and built his own Blockbuster in his house, with its own paid employees. Djeefu's affable personality was offset by his backing business partner, a tyrannical nincompoop named Poot N. Czuchs, the half-brother-cousin of Mark. Poot was a horrible person and took everything he ever wanted. Djeefu could charm him into submission sometimes though. Poot was currently off doing wargames so Djeefu was mostly on his own to create a new franchise for Retroliga. He named the club Fujirama, a nod to a company he and Poot had brutally taken over a few years back just for fun.

Previous version: https://i.imgur.com/704BILm.png

Djeefu was just getting into becoming a fashion industry icon with fancy super-boojie raincoats and slickers for all his movie stars so he made his new mascot wear one, which he dubbed the “Raindeer” and features a reindeer in a yellow raincoat. The team colors are Blockbuster Blue, Super Slick Yellow, Cloudy Gray and accents of Naughty Navy. The uniforms feature swooped quadruple striping with contrasting hems. Both sets are paired with blue pants with side stripes. The jersey numbers and TV numbers are featured in a funky italicized retro serif while the NOBs are in a more modern sans-serif. The TV numbers and NOBs are in yellow on both sets while the jersey numbers feature double strokes and in contrasting color.

Djeefu asked VHS to run a new script, this one 0001.bc (Before Cheez-Itz Edition), to help him find some people to run his team, because he really just wanted the fame and notoriety to spend more time in his studios with hot movie stars. 0001.bc introduced the antithesis of Djeefu with the stoic and lifeless Brent Burnsworth. Some people were actively wondering if this was a Weekend At Bernie's type of situation, as Burnsworth looked mostly dead in interviews and never moved much while behind the bench, but somehow had racked up a metric tonne of wins in other leagues. His assistant will be the insatiable Adrian Wojtak, who knows more about anyone than anyone knows about themselves. Woj can peer into people's souls and find knowledge and information. Fortunately he's a decent dude who hasn't figured out how to harness all that knowledge into power but he's super handy to have around.

Syms of Fujirama are super fickle. They only show up when the team is good or when there's enough controversy to make the headlines. There's also a hot debate on which moniker is more suited to the fans: Fujifans or Ramaniacs. There are often slap fights in the stands over this situation.

Re: Retroliga: The Saga

pros: that raindeer is very epic. love the idea and the execution is impeccable. definitely my favorite logo so far

cons: don't really care about the colors, mainly the bluish-gray which clashes horribly with the yellow in the secondary logo. I think you could do to lighten it up a bit (or just make it cream. I know you wanna make it cream.)

great work with this series overall! it's been a lot of fun to follow and read through all the wacky lore you've cooked up. keep it up!

Thanks a ton! Appreciate the feedback. I think you're right, the cloudy gray and yellow do clash so I adjusted the secondary logo to just be primarily blue and yellow which I think works much better.
