1962 Kellogg Cup Super Series; Final


1st Period

The St. Paul Auditorium was packed full with over 8,000 fans, most of them there for the hometown V's. The atmosphere was electric and the Victorias ate it up, dominating the opening frame, and scoring twice.

2nd Period
STP - 2
WAR - 1

Warroad came out looking much more like their normal selves, getting multiple scoring opportunities in the opening minutes and drawing a powerplay. The Lakers special teams unit was able to get it done on the powerplay to get Warroad back to within one midway through the game. The Victorias seemed to wake back up after allowing the goal and the rest of the period was back and forth, but neither side scored.

3rd Period
STP - 3
WAR - 2

Warroad came out determined and desperate, taking risky chances while pinching in the offensive zone and floating a winger outside the zone while on defense looking for a breakaway. The cherry picking strategy worked in a miraculous play where the Lakers flipped the puck out of the zone, over the heads of the defensemen. The cherry picker was first to the loose puck and he buried it five hole to tie the game at 2 apiece. Strangely enough, allowing the goal seemed to have woken up the Victorias yet again as they seemed to have been the ones with the momentum after the goal, applying consistent pressure in the Warroad zone. The V's continued to get chances late into the third, a shot was saved and covered with 2:38 left on the clock. The face off was won by St. Paul, the defenseman passed to his partner who one timed a shot behind a screen of bodies that went unseen by the Laker goalie on its way to the back of the net to give the Victorias the lead with just over 2 minutes left in the game. The clock ticked don to the final seconds and the Victorias dumped the puck in the Lakers zone, solidifying the win. The final horn sounded giving the St. Paul Victorias their 3rd Kellogg Cup!


Grand Rapids forward Didi Miller was awarded the Tschida Trophy for his near record breaking season.

The Lakers vs Saints game made for a stellar cream vs cream battle that was probably awesome to watch, despite the outcome. I’d bet that Steelman would have traveled across the country just to witness that much cream being used in one match.

I could see some teams doing something for it.

Next up we have Little Falls who also just updated their uniforms. The biggest change is switching the breezers from gold to black with stripes. A chest number is added to both the home and away, and the striping on the away jersey is inverted.
