Re: Quebec Amateur Hockey League

The 1945-46 regular season is over and here are the standings. The top 4 teams in the league will make the playoffs. ( I am using FHM 7 to simulate these results)

Re: Quebec Amateur Hockey League

1946 QAHL Playoffs

Sherbrooke Miners (1) vs Trois-Rivières Loggers (4)
The Miners were surprised in Game 1 as the Loggers pulled off a 4-3 overtime win. The sting from the loss motivated the Miners as they shutout the Loggers 4-0 to tie the series at 1 in game 2, then won the next three games including a 3-0 shutout in game 4 and a 6-3 domination in game 5 to send the Loggers home

Quebec Explorers (2) vs Montreal Nationals (3)
Quebec opened the first playoff series between these two rivals with a dominating 5-2 win. However, the Nationals won the next three games to push the Explorers to the brink of elimination. In a tight game 5, the Explorers pulled ahead and kept themselves alive with a 4-2 victory. That victory would be in vain as Montreal escaped a close game 6 with the win to send Quebec home.

Re: Quebec Amateur Hockey League

1946 Cartier Cup Finals

The first-ever Cartier Cup Finals started off with a bang as the Miners, despite being pushed to overtime by the Nationals, held on and won the game 5-4. This would be the closest Montreal would get to a win as in game 2, the Nationals were shutout 5-0 by the Miners. Back in Montreal for game 3, the Nationals tried to come back from a 4-1 deficit but fell short and lost 4-3. In the elimination game that was game 4, the Miners were dominant and won the game 4-1 to complete the sweep and give them the first title in QAHL history. Sherbrooke defenseman and captain Valentin Biron picked up the playoff MVP award with 14 points in 9 games to lead his team to victory

Re: Quebec Amateur Hockey League

Nothing of note happened in the 1946 offseason so let’s get rolling with the next season

1946/47 QAHL Season

The story of the season was the meteoric rise of Drummondville HC. After finishing in 5th place last season, they amassed 51 wins to finish in a distant 1st place. Finishing 2nd was Quebec, who after being stunned by Montreal last season, are looking to reach the finals. Facing them in the semis will be Sherbrooke. After a dominant 1945/46 season, the Miners fell to third place this year, but look to repeat as champions. In 4th place, we find the Montreal Nationals who barely made the playoffs but are looking to cause another upset like they did last year. Behind Montreal, Shawinigan was unlucky and missed the playoffs by a mere 2 points. They look forward to next year and hope to make the playoffs for the first time. Finally, we have the biggest losers of this season, the Trois-Rivières Loggers, who after making the playoffs last year, collapsed and finished last.

Re: Quebec Amateur Hockey League

1947 QAHL Playoffs

Drummondville HC (1) vs Montreal Nationals (4)
Drummondville’s first playoff appearance was rocked early when the Nationals took them to overtime in the series opener, but despite Montreal’s best efforts, Drummondville managed to win game 1 to assert their dominance. Game 2 saw the Nationals fail to score a goal as Drummondville put 3 past Montreal’s goaltender to take a 2-0 series lead. The Nationals hoped that the home crowd would help regain momentum but a 5-2 domination by Drummondville in Game 3 put the Nats on the brink of elimination. Game 4 was a close one with the two teams exchanging goal after goal but halfway through the 3rd, Drummondville scored what would end up being the game and series winning goal and would hold on to eliminate Montreal with a sweep.

Quebec Explorers (2) vs Sherbrooke Miners (3)
The defending champion Miners looked to repeat and were on the right track after 2 periods in Game 1 of their series against Quebec, but the Explorers stormed back and stunned the defending champs with a 4-3 OT win. Sherbrooke would learn from their mistakes and hold on to their lead in Game 2 to tie it at one. An early goal from Quebec’s Lucas Dionne would be the only one in Game 3 as the Explorers took a 2-1 lead in the series. Sherbrooke would then blow another lead in game 4 that would push them to the brink of elimination. Game 5 was a tense one as the defending champs battled for their survival against a fierce Quebec team. The game was so tense that the two teams needed overtime. 5 minutes into overtime, a Quebec forward found a hole in Sherbrooke’s defence and took a slapshot that ripped past the goaltender to set up a Finals matchup with a red-hot Drummondville team and send the defending champs home empty-handed.

Re: Quebec Amateur Hockey League

Battle of the top two teams for the Championship, I can't wait to see how it ends. Crossing my fingers for this series going all the way.

Re: Quebec Amateur Hockey League

1947 Cartier Cup Finals

Game 1: Drummondville got on the domination train early as they scored 4 goals in the 1st period then added 2 more in each of the two other periods to take the game by a score of 8-3.

Game 2: It was almost a carbon copy of Game 1 as Drummondville took a lead early and never look back to win the game 4-1.

Game 3: The two teams fought hard until Quebec scored their 3rd goal of the night with 5 minutes left and held on to bring the series to 2-1.

Game 4: After Quebec tied it at 2 late in the 3rd, the teams would need overtime for the first time. Late into overtime, Drummondville would find the back of the net to put themselves 1 win away from the title.

Game 5: Back in Drummondville, the home team hoped they could finish it in front of their fans but Quebec had other plans. The Explorers scored 3 unanswered goals in the 1st and added a fourth in the 3rd to keep themselves alive with a 4-2 victory.

Game 6: Game 6 in Quebec was also a tense game as the Explorers fought for their survival in front of their fans. Only 3 goals were scored in that game, 1 coming from Quebec early in the 1st then they expand their lead to 2 midway through the second and despite a goal by Drummondville a few minutes after their goal, the Explorers held on to tie the series at 3 and set up Game 7 in Drummondville

Game 7: The Explorers were looking to cause an upset after coming back from down 3-1 but it was to no avail as Drummondville ran all over the Explorers in this game. With two goals late in the 1st and two early in the 3rd and their goalie stopping every single shot he faced, Drummondville took game 7 and celebrated their first Cartier Cup Championship. Drummondville’s Lucas Beaudoin picked the Playoff MVP award despite missing most of the finals with a concussion he suffered in Game 3
