Poor Soudan...ten wooden spoons in a row. Doesn't help when the mining town has a small population. However, it is great to see Ely back in the playoffs! Dare to beat the Bear!

To sum it up, the Austin identity is legendary! One of my favourites so far!

Unrelated to the season but I love how satisfying it is to see all the logos together. Also a big fan of the power rankings! It gives you a feeling who had the best record without having to do all the records!

Thanks, I'm glad you like it!

The small population, along with a decrease in mining operations in recent years has caused Soudan to really fall in recent years. And thanks, I'm glad you like the update!

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

From the top down,

Austin has found a perfect logo with what I’d like to title the “metallic mav”. Wish they brought the A over giving the metallic like treatment to it as well.

My Robins looking thick af with that new outline. Jokes aside, I do prefer them in orange over their previous black. Whenever there is the opportunity to see more color in the league I’ll happily take it.

I for sure will be one to miss the human looking wolf head of Two Harbors, but believe the new logo is a massive upgrade. It looks very sharp, but it might be a tad modern for the time.

For some reason I feel like West St. Paul won this offseason. They did not do anything dramatic, but the simplification of the W along with the sash looks professional. The switch of baby blue and white also is nice on the eyes.

New Ulm has really struck gold, or diamond?, with this identity. I’m a very big fan of a logo that utilizes shapes that are typically underused and I got plenty of that with this team.

To touch on the season. It has been fun watching the Railers claw to the top and become expected contenders. I recall the years where they were my only team that was left in the playoffs and expectations were so low that I was exhilarated to even have them there. Man time flies.

Thank you, I like that nickname. I will say that the Flying A will be back at some point in some form.

Haha, I felt that a team called the Robins ought to be primarily orange, also with the Mustangs having a black home jersey I thought this would be a good way to differentiate the two.

For Two Harbors I was trying to go for something similar to what Wolverhampton introduced in the 60s, the same logo they still use. I didn't want it to be too similar so I made it howling instead.

Thanks, I feel like West St. Paul will likely continue on this trend of emphasizing navy and white in the years to come.

Thank you, I'm glad New Ulm has been so well received.

Yeah, Thief River looks like a new potential powerhouse in the years to come. The last few years have given them the confidence, and they showed this year that they're already elite.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

All Aboard!!! Time to rail through the ploffs! New Ulm looks stunning as well! With the complaints of Fargo and Moorhead, should we expect to see the south part of the Northland League split away and get a couple new teams into a new league?

Charlotte Racers (2016 AltHL Champions) St. Louis Explorers (2000 & 2011 AltBowl Champions) Minnesota Giants (2000, 2004, 2006 & 2014 AltBA Champions)

Don't be surprised if more teams begin to form in the Fargo-Moorhead area in the years to come, and with players not wanting to travel, a new league definitely looks to be on the horizon.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Sorry for the lack of posts this week, I've been busy with schoolwork. Hopefully this wont become a regular thing, but I had a bit of time here to make the 1961 Kellogg Cup Playoff Tree.

Let me know what you think, comments are appreciated!

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

1961 Kellogg Cup Playoffs, Knockout Round

St. Paul Saints vs Mankato Moose
It was a once sided affair from the get-go as the Saints marched all over the Moose in a 5-2 shellacking. The veteran d-man Housley led his Saints with 3 assists on the night.

Twin Cities Vulcans vs Rochester Robins
Another dominant game by a team from the cities saw the Vulcans blow past the Robins. Rochester scored first, but the Vulcans answered back soon after and kept the momentum for the remainder of the game.

Minneapolis Millers vs Alexandria Norsemen
In a game many expected to be all Minneapolis, the Norsemen put up quite a fight, forcing overtime in Minneapolis Arena. Alexandria's defense kept them in it, but Ramsay of the Millers blasted a shot from the hash marks that finally beat the Norsemen goalie to send them to the second round.

Rochester Mustangs vs New Ulm Bavarians
The top dogs in the Valley squared off with the newcomers to the west in the Bavarians first ever playoff game. The Mustangs struck first, then again in the second to take a 2-0 lead. New Ulm finally answered back midway through the third on a weak shot that trickled past the Rochester net minder. The Bavarians got a surge of momentum after the goal and peppered the Mustang goalie until one finally squeaked through to tie the game. The first overtime came and went with both teams having grade A scoring chances that just didn't come to fruition. The second overtime began and neither team was able to score yet again. Not until the Mustangs were assessed a 2 minute minor for elbowing, giving the diamonds a powerplay. The Bavarians passed the puck around the zone, but couldn't get a shot on net. The powerplay ran out, but as the Mustang player was skating back into his zone, the puck was passed to the winger on the far side who had been left unguarded for just a split second. He wasted no time, one timing the puck just inside the pipe to shock the Valley Hockey League and advance to the second round.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

1961 Kellogg Cup Playoffs, Knockout Round Day 2

Thunder Bay Giants vs St. Cloud Bearcats
Thunder Bay showed the Cats just how physical they are, punishing the St. Cloud forwards all game long. The Giants lived up to their name as they bowled over St. Cloud to advance with a 4-1 victory.

International Falls Ice vs Fergus Falls Cyclones
Down go the Ice! In a upset literally nobody saw coming, the Fergus Falls Cyclones knocked off the perennial powerhouse in the first round. Fergus went out to an early 2-0 lead with goals in the first and second, silencing the ruckus crowd in Smokey Bear Park. The Ice put up a good fight in the third, but were just unable to complete the comeback as they fall to the maroon and orange.

Grand Rapids Moose vs Warroad Lakers
This one was a scorers game if there ever was one. Scoring chances were a plenty as the Moose and Lakers exchanged scoring opportunities. Grand Rapids would come out on top in the end, not necessarily outplaying Warroad, but capitalizing on more chances than their counterparts.

Superior Lakers vs Ely Black Bears
Superior just proved to be too much for the Black Bear offense as they kept them off the board altogether. Ely's defense kept the game close, but the Lakers got the last laugh as they move onto the second round with a 2-0 shutout win.

Let me know what you think, comments are appreciated!
