I'm also curious about something that I have zero issue with. Why was Ronald Kociba's hometown changed? I can assure you that Bad Axe, MI is in fact a real town (it's my home town) if that was the issue. Or maybe it's too far north to be in a local area of the league? I'd still like to know. Again, I have zero issue with it. I'm glad I created a first rounder (Peter Kinglsey) for the first time.

I changed it just to put some guys in bigger markets, a lot of people like throwing players into small towns which is great for variety, but that means there are less coming from bigger cities which isn't super realistic. I usually flip several from smaller markets into big ones, that just happened to be one of them. I do check to make sure places exist.

I will say, I always will change players to fit the story and as I need to just for what I feel is right for what I want to do.

Re: North American Association of Football - NAAF

1961 Free Agency Part 2

Lang Lands in Montreal
The long-time Raider/Hawk WR Robert Lang found a new home in the Montreal Rouge following the draft. While it was rumoured he might land in Ottawa, they were quickly silenced with the Royals trade for WR Angus Stevenson. Lang would sign a 1-year deal in Montreal to give the Rouge a real strong WR core heading into next season. WR Derek Cross will lead the way with both Lang and WR Ray Lopez being able to support. Not to mention the Rouge just drafted WR Taylor Karis who is certainly going to make a push for touches this season. QB Gene Bishop is certainly excited about the WR core he is going to have to work with this season.

Hot Rod Heads Just Down The Road, Joins Several Vets in Move to Thunder
The departure of RB Rodney Clark from the Victors was a little shocking, but what was more surprising was the time it took for Clark to make a decision on a new home. Ultimately, with just a month before training camps were to open, Clark would sign with the Victors’ rivals in the Louisville Thunder. The young RB will be paired up with RB Stavros Black and will likely split a lot of the touches as both are fit to be a starting back. However, Louisville was not finished with just bringing on Clark as they also brought in several veterans aiming to add experience to the young squad. WR Truman Harry, DB Victor Bean, and TE Duane Holloway all signed deals with the team. Truman Harry had previously spent some time with Louisville before he was traded to Ottawa a couple of years ago, Victor Bean is still hunting for a championship and hopes the Louisville secondary can get them there, and Holloway was looking for a fresh start after getting out of the Worcester turmoil. Louisville has quietly become a little more competitive this offseason and they could make a run for the top if things click.

Boston Has New Face at Tight End
For many seasons the Independents have had TE Richard Stewart headlining the TE position, but he has not been as impactful as they once hoped. After suffering a season-ending injury early in his career, the TE had not fully recovered enough to reach his potential, so Boston finally sought out a new face. They quickly spotted their new piece in TE Tanner Tint who just recently left the London Tigers’ backup role. The 25-year-old is just about to hit his prime and looks pretty solid, many are expecting him to take over Stewart’s starting spot out of the gate.

ACFL and GLFL Shift
Some young players from both the ACFL and GLFL made moves over to the NAAF. The most notable was WR Fred Summers who signed on with the Buffalo Blue Wings for 3 seasons. The 24-year-old had been playing for the Washington Americans and was not getting a great opportunity, which is suspected to be because of his skin colour. Summers decided to leave and was excited to join a young Buffalo team that hopes he develops into a strong WR for the future. S Gilbert Lopez moved on from the Cincinnati Centurions of the GLFL following the team getting a bright young safety to replace him. He found the NAAF was intriguing and decided to make the shift to the Victors. A pair of youngsters out of the Philadelphia Rebels, LB Ronald Palmer and DL Billy Melton would both join the Worcester Athletics for this season as well. It seems like more young players are looking for greater opportunities and seeing the NAAF as a strong option.

1961 Pre-season Power Rankings

1 - London Tigers
1960 Record: 8-4 (2nd West)
1960 Result: Won McCallister Cup
Following their first championship, the Tigers didn’t make a lot of changes this offseason and they really didn’t need to. QB Riley Kiernan returns with his young weapons in WR Max Sutton and RB Clifford Russell. They still have the powerful D-line and feisty secondary that will certainly give the Tigers a great shot at repeating. The team did suffer a couple of losses in veterans LB Benjamin Pittman and WR Wilbert Benjamin. Pittman moved onto Louisville while Benjamin called it a career. They will be able to replace the two with youngsters in LB Dallas Dillard and WR Jack Duncan. The Tigers are looking like the favourites again and will be tough to dethrone.

Captains
C - LB Aengus Lynch
A - QB Riley Kiernan
A - RB Clifford Russell*

2 - Boston Independents
1960 Record: 8-4 (1st East)
1960 Result: Lost East Division Final

Pressure mounts in Beantown ahead of the 1961 season. After the last several seasons of falling short in the playoffs, the fans are going to be hungry to see the team get back to the championship game. QB Nathaniel Braddock has steadily grown over the past few seasons and now with a fresh new contract, he is the leader for the team to the future. However, this season he will have some help coming in on the back end with DB Petr Westerburg from the Royals and rookie DB Lawrence Ralph. They still have strengths in the WR core and LB core which will keep them in contention as always, the question is, can they finally make it happen when it counts? Only time will tell.

Captains
C - LB Brent Harper
A - WR Ellis Lindholm
A - QB Nathaniel Braddock*

3 - Montreal Rouge
1960 Record: 8-4 (2nd East)
1960 Result: Lost East Division Semi-Final

Landing the top free agent during the offseason will create buzz for any team, but when it’s a potential franchise QB, there is another layer of pure excitement about the team heading into the season. QB Gene Bishop certainly will have a lot of pressure on a Montreal team that is desperate to be truly competitive again. The Rouge did make a return to the playoffs last season, but they were far from taking home a title. With the addition of Bishop into an offence with plenty of weapons, (RB Scott Mallard-White, WR Derek Cross, WR Robert Lang, and TE Eli Grant, just to name a few) the Rouge could be flying all over the field this season. Their slowly developing defence, behind DB Quentin Xavier and S Garet deVale, will aim to be a big help this season as well. Montreal has the makings of a true competitor, whether they reach that level will likely depend on how Bishop performs in his new role.

Captains
C - OL Eugésippe Chalifoux
A - DB Quentin Xavier
A - LB Sam Fitzroy

4 - Louisville Thunder
1960 Record: 7-5 (3rd West)
1960 Result: Missed Playoffs

Many teams made strong moves this offseason, and the Thunder were certainly one of them. The big one was easily the trade they made at the draft to acquire DL Tyrone Affalo and move up to pick OL Taylor Forbes. Both pieces look to be immediate impacts on both D-line and O-line. The team also brought in several veterans in LB Benjamin Pittman, WR Truman Harry, and DB Victor Bean, to add some leadership to the younger group. On top of that, they also added young RB Rodney Clark to pair up with RB Stavros Black this season which looks to be one of the better duos in the league. The big question will once again remain in the hands of QB Leonidas Dumont. The QB is in a contract year and will be looking to prove himself, especially after the Thunder brought in QB Christian Stewart to back him up this season. The Thunder looks strong once again, now can they turn that into success and a run at the cup.

Captains
C - QB Leonidas Dumont
A - LB Silas O’Brien
A - DB Alexander Bradley

5 - Providence Gold Stars
1960 Record: 1-11 (5th East)
1960 Result: Missed Playoffs

It is quite the climb up the power rankings for a team that finished at the bottom of the league last season, but when you add several game-changing pieces to a crumbling defence and return with a still strong offensive attack, you certainly can climb out of the hole quickly. LB Rusty McVee, S Shawn Jensen, and DB Jared Francis all come to the Gold Stars looking to get the team back on track and rebuild the defence quickly. They also will be getting help from the #1 overall pick DB Neville Falkner, who already looks like a stellar piece in training camp. The big story outside of the new additions will be QB Connor O’Rourke who is aiming for a rebound season after a pretty tough 1960 season. The veteran QB is hoping that with the help he can return to MVP form and finally get the Gold Stars over the top this season.

Captains
C - QB Connor O’Rourke
A - DL Calias McDonough
A - OL Wilfred Gibson*

6 - Ottawa Royals
1960 Record: 7-4-1 (3rd East)
1
960 Result: Lost McCallister Cup

After many years of pure dominance, it is odd to see the Royals this far down the power rankings. It comes with both major concerns with the team’s ageing lineup and the other younger teams getting a lot better. However, as long as QB Jean Matieau and HC Joseph Curry remain with the team they are certainly going to be contenders. It is looking like a team that may rely more on its defence than in years past, but that should not stop them from being a strong team.

Captains
C - QB Jean Matieau
A - DL Olaf Viktorsson
A - DB Uzzia Hayes

7 - Long Island Raiders
1960 Record: 8-3-1 (1st West)
1960 Result: Lost West Division Final

While seeing the Royals at 6 is a surprise, seeing the Raiders below them at 7 is even more surprising. The Raiders, who have finished 1st in the West in the last three seasons, suffered the most from the league’s new salary cap. They would lose several key pieces (LB Rusty McVee, DL Tyrone Affalo, and WR Robert Lang), which brings a lot of questions to the team this season. Those players will be replaced by the less experienced crew of LB Deon Wiggins, DL Dale Rothery, and WR Tony Albano. The bit of good news for the Raiders is that RB Dareion Fields looks like he has recovered from his major injury from last season and should be back up to form this year.

Captains
C - DL Vernon Spears
A - LB Elijah Goldwater
A - QB Lyle Painter*

8 - Buffalo Blue Wings
1960 Record: 2-9-1 (4th West)
1960 Results: Missed Playoffs

Outside of the top 7, things get a bit dicey with the still rebuilding teams. The Buffalo Blue Wings will be about seeing a lot of young players from RB Jimmy Golden to DB Dean Hawkins. However, the most interesting spot could be at QB. The team is leaning towards starting veteran QB Stanislav Ovechkin out of the gate this season, but they have strongly considered giving second-year QB Charles Lemieux a shot out of the gate. It is very likely the young QB does get a shot at some point this season. The Blue Wings will be exciting to watch grow this season, but they are certainly a long shot from being true contenders this season.

Captains
C - S Frazier Brooks*
A - OL Jean Mathieu-Baptiste
A - LB Lloyd Mathis*

9 - Indiana Victors
1960 Record: 2-10 (5th West)
1960 Result: Missed Playoffs

The Indiana Victors are hoping that this season can bring a little more promise. The past two seasons have certainly been tough for the team. The good news is people still stand by the team and they seem to be finally heading in the right direction. The addition of 1960 OPOY RB Johnnie Stafford and RB Don Gregson certainly provide some experience in the backfield which can be a huge boost to the offence. However, their big question will be who gets starting snaps between QB Stanley Troyer and QB Lee Rogers. Both QBs have performed well in camp and both likely will have chances early in the season. The team seems to be leaning in Troyer’s direction, but Rogers continues to make his case and could mean both see the field in the opening game. It’s a year of experimentation for the Victors, but the hope is getting to a competitive spot soon enough.

Captains
C - DL William Sanderson
A - DB Kelly Kirkland
A - RB Johnnie Stafford*

10 - Worcester Athletics
1960 Record: 7-4-1 (4th East)
1960 Result: Lost West Division Semi-Final

The last team will leave a lot to be desired, while last season they were ranked 10 going into the season, but they also had a young Gene Bishop and several other key pieces last season that helped them reach the playoffs. The huge questions all over the roster don't spell good news for the Athletics. The QB battle is likely to go to QB Terry Bourbon out of the gate, but QB Caldwell Higgins III could also challenge for starting snaps this season. The team’s roster has been burnt to a crisp over the past several seasons and is leading to an even longer rebuild.

Captains
C - LB Scotty Williams
A - OL Cliff Strauztenberger
A - DL Brayden Mills*

Re: North American Association of Football - NAAF

I think it’s Boston’s year to win it all as much as it pains me to say that. With the moves they made this offseason it’s a championship or bust season. I also think my Gold Stars have a chance to exceed expectations but being in an extremely competitive division doesn’t help them at all.

Re: North American Association of Football - NAAF

1961 Week 1

London Tigers - 20, Long Island Raiders - 12 - Western Fair Stadium - June 22, 1961 - 7 PM ET - Weather: Clear
1st Q
7-0 LDN - RTD RB Clifford Russell
7-3 LI - FG K Henderson Schumacher
2nd Q
7-6 LI - FG K Henderson Schumacher
10-6 LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth
3rd Q
17-6 LDN - PTD QB Riley Kiernan -> WR Max Sutton
4th Q
17-12 LI - RTD RB Dareion Fields
20-12 LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth

A close and defensive game between the Tigers and Raiders kicked off the season.
The Tigers' offence was strong as a whole finding the endzone twice, while the Raiders struggled to get the ball moving.
RB Dareion Fields was getting back into action and new OC Levi Bray was still working on some of his strategies so it seems understandable that the team would not come out with an explosion of offence.

Ottawa Royals - 10, Boston Independents - 23 - Royals Stadium at Brewer Park - June 23, 1961 - FNF - 7 PM ET - Weather: Clear
1st Q
0-3 BOS - FG K Johnnie Berg
7-3 OTT - PTD QB Jean Matieau -> TE Jervonte Howell
2nd Q
7-10 BOS - RTD RB Kendall Morgan
3rd Q
10-10 OTT - FG K Maurice Lafayette
10-13 BOS - FG K Johnnie Berg
4th Q
10-20 BOS - PTD QB Nathaniel Braddock -> WR Paul Franklin
10-23 BOS - FG K Johnnie Berg

The Independents came out to a strong start to their season with a huge win over the Royals.
The Boston defence came up with a big second half shutting down the Royals offence and coming up with a pair of turnovers.
LB Brent Harper had a forced fumble and then DB Lawrence Ralph had his first career pick.
The Royals looked a bit flat and will need to work on some things ahead of their week 2 match against the Rouge

Louisville Thunder - 35, Buffalo Blue Wings - 22 - Thunder Stadium - June 24, 1961 - 3 PM ET - Weather: Clear
1st Q
7-0 LOU - RTD RB Stavros Black
7-7 BUF - RTD RB Jimmy Golden
7-10 BUF - FG K Donald Brewer
2nd Q
14-10 LOU - RTD RB Rodney Clark
14-13 BUF - FG K Donald Brewer
21-13 LOU - PTD QB Leonidas Dumont -> WR Piers Key
3rd Q
21-19 BUF - RTD RB Jimmy Golden
28-19 LOU - PTD QB Leonidas Dumont -> WR Piers Key
4th Q
28-22 BUF - FG K Donald Brewer
35-22 LOU - PTD QB Leonidas Dumont -> WR Piers Key

The Thunder came out with a hot start led by both QB Leonidas Dumont and WR Piers Key who combined for 3 touchdowns.
Both Stavros Black and Rodney Clark made an impact as well, each rushing for a touchdown in the game.
RB Jimmy Golden had a strong start with a pair of touchdowns in the loss.
DB Alexander Bradley did have a pick along with DB Jayden Mills, while Buffalo was not able to get anything on defence.

Worcester Athletics - 24, Montreal Rouge - 30 - Worcester Stadium - June 24, 1961 - SNF - 7 PM ET - Weather: Cloudy
1st Q
0-3 MTL - FG K Arthur Kettinger
2nd Q
3-3 WOR - FG K Elvis Franklin
10-3 WOR - DTD INT DB Joe Robinson
10-6 MTL - FG K Arthur Kettinger
3rd Q
10-13 MTL - RTD RB Scott Mallard-White
10-16 MTL - FG K Arthur Kettinger
17-16 WOR - PTD QB Terry Bourbon -> WR Zachariah Pembroke
4th Q
17-23 MTL - PTD QB Gene Bishop -> WR Robert Lang
24-23 WOR - RTD RB Lawrence Sharp
24-30 MTL - PTD QB Gene Bishop -> WR Derek Cross

It was a scary game in Worcester for the Rouge who would not be able to stay ahead of the Athletics squad.
QB Gene Bishop struggled in the first half, but he was able to get going and toss a pair of touchdowns to give Montreal the win.
DB Joe Robinson helped the Athletics a lot with the win, picking up an interception and taking it back to the house.
QB Terry Bourbon was alright in his first start with the Athletics throwing a touchdown, but he made his own mistakes throwing a pair of interceptions to DB Quentin Xavier and S Garet deVale.

Indiana Victors - 15, Providence Gold Stars - 28 - Victory Stadium - June 25, 1961 - 2 PM ET - Weather: Cloudy
1st Q
0-7 PRO - PTD QB Connor O’Rourke -> TE Michael Bowman III

4th Q
15-21 IND - FG K Ross Poindexter
15-28 PRO - PTD QB Connor O’Rourke -> WR Christian Venegas

The Gold Stars opened up by matching their win total from last season with a win over the Victors on the road.QB Connor O’Rourke had a strong performance with 3 touchdown passes and 275 Passing Yards.
RB Johnnie Stafford was able to do something for the Victors' offence scoring a touchdown.
DB Neville Falkner did make an impact with his first career pickoff of QB Stanley Troyer, and DL Calias McDonough grabbed a forced fumble as well.

Re: North American Association of Football - NAAF

1961 Week 2

Long Island Raiders - 10, Louisville Thunder - 21 - Long Island Stadium - June 31, 1961 - FNF - 7 PM ET - Weather: Clear
1st Q
3-0 LI - FG K Henderson Schumacher
3-7 LOU - PTD QB Leonidas Dumont -> WR Truman Harry
2nd Q
3-14 LOU - RTD RB Rodney Clark
3rd Q
10-14 LI - RTD RB Dareion Fields
10-21 LOU - PTD QB Leonidas Dumont -> WR Piers Key
4th Q

The Thunder came through with their second win of the season with Dumont throwing another two touchdowns in the win.
Long Island still struggled on offence outside of a Dareion Fields touchdown, with QB Lyle Painter throwing a pick to S Johnny Berger.
The Thunder defence played really well and pretty much shut down all offensive attacks from the Raiders.
The Raiders' defence was able to help a bit with DL Vernon Spears getting a forced fumble.

Ottawa Royals - 13, Montreal Rouge - 17 - Royals Stadium at Brewer Park - July 1, 1961 - Canada Day - 5 PM ET - Weather: Clear
1st Q
3-0 OTT - FG K Maurice Lafayette
2nd Q
3-7 MTL - RTD RB Scott Mallard-White
3rd Q
10-7 OTT - RTD RB Alexei Volkov
10-14 MTL - PTD QB Gene Bishop -> WR Ray Lopez
4th Q
13-14 OTT - FG K Maurice Lafayette
13-17 MTL - FG K Arthur Kettinger

A shockingly defensive game between the Royals and the Rouge ended with the Rouge narrowly escaping with a win.
QB Gene Bishop has been struggling in his new system, so the ball was in the hands of Scott Mallard-White for the most part, which did work in the end.
S Garet deVale had a big day for the Rouge bringing in a pick along with 5 tackles.
Ottawa has lacked their offensive might in the first couple of games and seems to be struggling to get going in this season; the loss marks their first 0-2 start since the 1949 season.
*Also that 0-2 start was at the hands of the Independents and the Rouge with both games also in Ottawa*

Indiana Victors - 23, London Tigers - 29 - Victory Stadium - July 2, 1961 - 1 PM ET - Weather: Cloudy
1st Q
3-0 IND - FG K Ross Poindexter
3-7 LDN - PTD QB Riley Kiernan -> WR Jack Duncan
2nd Q
3-10 LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth
10-10 IND - RTD RB Johnnie Stafford
10-11 LDN - Single K Nimrod Handsworth
3rd Q
16-11 IND - PTD QB Stanley Troyer -> WR Alexei Dubois
16-17 LDN - PTD QB Riley Kiernan -> WR Benedict Spencer
16-19 LDN - 2PT RB Clifford Russell
4th Q
23-19 IND - PTD QB Stanley Troyer -> WR Silas Peyton
23-26 LDN - RTD RB Clifford Russell
23-29 LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth

The Indiana Victors gave the Tigers a run for their money with a strong 2-touchdown performance from QB Stanley Troyer.
QB Riley Kiernan would match Troyer’s performance with 2-touchdowns himself.
As for defence, London had a pick from DB Jackson Miles and a forced fumble from LB Aengus Lynch, and the Victors would have help from DB Kelly Kirkland and DL William Sanderson.
Kirkland’s interception would help lead to WR Silas Peyton’s touchdown which shows the defence getting a bit of a rhythm.

Providence Gold Stars - 44, Worcester Athletics - 13 - New Providence Stadium - July 2, 1961 - 4 PM ET - Weather: Clear
1st Q
7-0 PRO - RTD RB Marcus Devonshire
14-0 PRO - PTD QB Connor O’Rourke -> WR Sammy Moss
2nd Q
14-3 WOR - FG K Elvis Franklin21-3 PRO - RTD RB Marcus Devonshire
3rd Q
21-6 WOR - FG K Elvis Franklin
28-6 PRO - RTD RB Marcus Devonshire
34-6 PRO - DTD INT DB Neville Falkner
4th Q
37-6 PRO - FG K Ira Foster

The Gold Stars had a tough pill to swallow early in the second quarter with QB Connor O’Rourke getting knocked out of the game, however, the rest of the team was able to step up and help crush the Athletics 44-13.
DB Neville Falkner came through with his first career pick-6 which pretty much ended any ounce of hope the Athletics had.
St-Hilaire was solid in replacing O’Rourke, throwing a touchdown last in the game, and only having one interception to DB Joe Robinson.
LB Rusty McVee and DL Craig White also came up with forced fumbles as well.

Re: North American Association of Football - NAAF

Glad to see deVale getting the nod with D Player of the Week! Additionally super happy to see Providence at 2-0, definitely a big improvement from last year but losing O'Rourke hurts a lot. Hopefully it all works out.

Re: North American Association of Football - NAAF

Yikes, London really took it to Worcester. Unfortunate to see Providence suffering without O'Rourke, hopefully we comes back just as good.
