1982 Kellogg Cup Playoff Trees
Offline
So now we are in 1982, right?
I wonder which theatres in Minneapolis and St. Paul showed ET: The Extra Terrestrial. I have a feeling Universal will likely buy ad time for really cheap during any MAHL games shown on WTCN, KARE or whomever is the MAHL's TV partner.
Other trailers to look out for during Kellogg Cup intermission would be for Wrath of Khan from Paramount or Disney's TRON.

S30, do you still do sigs? If so, I would like to have one with Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, New Ulm, St. Cloud Bearcats, Winona and Little Canada.

Are this year's playoffs single elimination, best of three, best of five or best of seven?

Not Section30, but the playoffs are single elimination, and have been since 1957.

As Bubba mentioned already, the MAHL playoffs have been single elimination for quite some time now, and honestly I don't see them ever going back to series with how much the playoffs have expanded and continue to expand8.5.5

1982 Kellogg Cup Playoffs: Knockout Round - North
Hibbing Greyhounds vs Sauk Rapids Bulldogs
It was a dog fight at a sold out Hibbing Memorial Arena as the Greyhounds welcomed the Bulldogs from Sauk Rapids. Hibbing got off to a great start ringing a shot off the post early and overall controlling play. The Greyhounds continued their solid play in the second as they got on the board with a rebound goal. The Hounds came close to extending their lead a couple times, but the Bulldogs were bailed out by their netminder. Sauk Rapids drew a powerplay in the third that they were able to capitalize on to tie the game at 1 apiece. The final horn rang and we were off to overtime. Hibbing was the team getting the better looks early on in ot, but Sauk Rapids was able to weather the storm and keep the puck out of their net. A Greyhound shot was blocked in the high slot and worked up to a winger on the far side breaking out of the zone. The Bulldog forward was able to get a step on the Greyhound defender, muscling his way to the slot where he fired a backhand shot that squeaked under the goalies arm and across the line. Despite being outshot and arguably outplayed, Sauk Rapids manages to hang on and advance with a 2-1 overtime win over Hibbing.
#24 Thunder Bay Giants vs Alexandria Norsemen
Fear Big Red! The Thunder Bay Giants showed no mercy for Alexandria, rolling right over the Norsemen with an offensive onslaught resulting in 7 goals. Alec was able to get two on the board, making it look a little closer than it really was. The Big Red Giants advance with a convincing 7-2 win over Alexandria.
East Grand Forks Pointers vs Moorhead Huskies
Both Duke and Miska were in the building for this *usually* friendly rivalry between Red River foes East Grand Forks and Moorhead. The visiting Huskies struck first with a deflection in front of the net midway through the first. EGF managed to tie it up a few minutes later to send us to the period break tied 1-1. It was a really even match for most of the second with both teams getting good looks but neither converting. The Greyhounds put a shot on net in the final seconds of the period that took a lucky bounce and wound up in the back of the net to give them their first lead of the game heading into the third. EGF came out flying in the third with the momentum of their late goal and they were able to wear out the Huskies enough to allow a wide open one timer that put the Pointers up 3-1. Moorhead wouldn't go down easy though as they began to crawl back into the game in the second half of the period, capitalizing on a loose puck in front of the net in a scrum to make it a one goal game down 3-2 with 8:08 to play. Moorhead was pouring it on in the final minutes of the game, giving it everything they had, but East Grand Forks held strong. The Pointers were able to convert on the empty net with 12 seconds left in the game to put it away for good. East Grand Forks advances by a score of 4-2 despite the best efforts of the Moorhead Huskies.
International Falls Ice vs Grand Marais Explorers
International Falls Arena was filled to capacity hours before the teams even took the ice for warmups, all bearing scarves to wave above their heads. This is the first home playoff game in 2 decades for International Falls, hell it's been 13 years since the Ice have played ANY playoff hockey. The atmosphere was electric at puck drop and it was clearly effecting the visiting Explorers who were making mistake after mistake in the defensive zone and it led to the Ice getting a chance from right in front that wound up in the back of the net. International Falls would score one more in the first before Grand Marais got on the board in the second. The Ice regained their 2 goal cushion early in the third and despite a late comeback attempt by Grand Marais, scoring with just over a minute left to make it a one goal game, they held on. The final horn sounded and the 2,600+ in attendance erupted, International Falls has won their first playoff game since winning the Kellogg Cup back in 1959, knocking out Grand Marais 3-2.
