Re: Solar League Baseball: A Future History

Congrats to the Reign, it's a shame Harmony couldn't win this one. Hopefully PUA can get good quickly, I'd hate to see them unsuccessful like the old Emperors.

Re: Solar League Baseball: A Future History

2581 Season

AL Inner:

  • The Luna Apollos were by far the best team in the entire Astro League as they finished with 106 wins and a commanding 22-game lead over the 2nd place finisher in the AL Division.
  • The Mars Warriors and Mercury Mets finished with 84 and 83 wins respectively, a good 22- and 23-game behind the Apollos.
  • The Earth Astronauts and the Venus Sparrows finished tied for 4th in the division with 77 wins apiece.

AL Middle:

  • It was a tight race down the stretch for these two teams, but it was the Harmony 1’s who came out on top by one game over the Jupiter Kings for the AL Middle Division title.
  • The Nolan Engineers got a nice consolation prize as they clinched the no. 5 seed in the AL postseason with 87 wins.
  • The Callisto Cubs continue to decline as they finished with 71 wins.
  • The Io Vulcans did improve on their 51-win season from last year with 63 wins. Still bad, but the improvement gives them something to hope for.

AL Outer:

  • The Polaris North Stars must have had a really good expansion draft, as the sophomore team won their second straight AL Outer Division title with 88 wins!
  • The Titania Spirits and the Neptune Mariners improved on their losing records from last season with a winning record of 86 and 85 wins respectively.
  • The Titan Kraken rolled in with 71 wins, and the Ceres Belters finished with an embarrassing 63 wins on the season.

CL Inner:

  • The Kennedy Rockets fought all the way toward the end where they won the CL Inner Division title with a solid 95-win season.
  • The defending Galactic Series champion Venus Reign had the division lead for most of the season, until they went 1-9 in the final 10 games of the season to drop to 2nd place. They’re stumbling into the playoffs with a 7-game losing streak. Not a good look.
  • The Horus Pharaohs had a winning season with a record of 82-80 and ended the season with a 9-game winning streak.
  • The Valles Marineris couldn’t get anything going as they finished with 75 wins.
  • The new PUA Emperors finished last in the Cosmo League with 99 losses.

CL Middle:

  • The Ganymede Giants owned the entire Cosmo League as they finished atop with 105 wins and outperformed their expectations.
  • The Pamoja Guardians rolled in with a strong season of 91 wins and a wild card slot.
  • The Ft. Nevada Black clinched their first winning season in their young history with 82 wins.
  • The Mendez Islanders continue to decline as their team couldn’t get anything rolling.
  • The Europa Mastodons improved from last season but still finished last.

CL Outer:

  • For the second straight year, the Oort Comets are in the same boat (ship?) as the Polaris North Stars, as they cruised to the CL Outer Division title with 92 wins, 12 games ahead of the Saturn Halos.
  • The Ceres Gatekeepers had a great team on paper, but couldn’t live up to the hype and finished with just 78 wins.
  • The Pluto Demons and Atlantis A’s finished with 66 and 64 wins respectively.

Re: Solar League Baseball: A Future History

My A's just looked bad. Hopefully they get some talent into the minors (are there minor leagues?) and can make some waves. Get it? Waves?

Since Saturn continues to come up short, I'll be rooting for Polaris.

Re: Solar League Baseball: A Future History

Nolan Engineers vs. Jupiter Kings
With all three games at Jupiter, the Nolan Engineers had a challenge ahead of them. In Game 1, the Jupiter Kings took care of Nolan, 3-1, behind a strong outing from Byeong-ju Arenas who tossed 7 innings of one-run ball.

With their backs to the wall in Game 2, the Engineers responded by toppling the Kings, 7-2, to even the series. Nolan second baseman Raul Rodriguez had a base-clearing double in the top of the first inning to put the Engineers on top 3-0, and the team never looked back.

With the series even at 1-1 apiece, it was a nail-biting clinching game, as the Engineers pulled off an upset by defeating the Kings, 1-0, to advance to the ALDS. Engineers starter Jose Hernandez cruised with 7 innings of no-run ball and 10 strikeouts.

Pamoja Guardians vs. Venus Reign
In Game 1, the Pamoja Guardians took advantage of the struggling Venus Reign as they picked up a road win with a 5-4 victory. Pamoja used a clutch hit from Chi-hoon Bryant to get the win. The left fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Guardians ahead, 5-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

After the loss, the Reign decided to skip all batting practice and pregame stuff to reset and just showed up to play. And boy, did it work. The Reign picked up their first win in 9 games dating back to the regular season by defeating the Guardians, 4-2, to force a Game 3 in the Wild Card series.

In Game 3, it was a pitchers’ duel between the Reign’s Guenther Lewis and the Guardians’ Takanobu Yamauchi as they matched each other through seven innings, where Reign catcher Ginnosuke Watanbe poked a solo homer to give the Reign a 1-0 lead. And that was all the Reign needed, as they won the game, 1-0, to keep their title hopes alive.

Re: Solar League Baseball: A Future History

ALDS

Nolan Engineers vs. Luna Apollos
The Luna Apollos got a great start from their team as they defeated the Nolan Engineers, 6-2, in Game 1. The Engineers came back with a thrilling slugfest to tie the series with a 9-8 victory. However, the Apollos dashed the Engineers’ hopes by winning the next two games on the road at Nolan Station to advance to the ALCS.

Polaris North Stars vs. Harmony 1’s
Game 1 went the distance to 10 innings, where the Polaris North Stars put up two runs to give them a 6-4 win over the Harmony 1’s. The 1’s answered with two straight wins to make it a 2-1 series lead. However, the North Stars tied the series in Game 4 to force a decisive Game 5, where the Stars also won it to advance to their first ALCS.

CLDS

Venus Reign vs. Ganymede Giants
This was a series where home-field advantage came into play as the home team won all of their games during the 5-game series. Fortunately, it was the 105-win Ganymede Giants who defeated the Venus Reign, 3 games to 2, and ended their hopes of a threepeat in the Galactic Series.

Oort Comets vs. Kennedy Rockets
Unlike the Venus-Ganymede series, this one between the Oort Comets and the Kennedy Rockets was a seesaw affair, as the two teams alternated wins. The Rockets narrowly defeated the Comets, 3-2, in Game 1. But that meant the Rockets got the last laugh as they downed the Comets in Game 5 with a solid 4-1 win.

Re: Solar League Baseball: A Future History

ALCS: Polaris North Stars vs. Luna Apollos
As the team with the second-most Galactic Series titles (10, Mendez with 11) in league history, the Luna Apollos took advantage of the Polaris North Stars’ inexperience and swept them out of the postseason with four straight wins. The series opened with two straight walk-off wins in the extra innings for the Apollos. Rodrigo Hernandez delivered a walk-off RBI single in Game 1, while Todd Jeans hit a dramatic, two-run homer in the 10th inning to lift the Apollos.

CLCS: Kennedy Rockets vs. Ganymede Giants
Over in the CLCS, it was a fairly mundane series for the Ganymede Giants, as the 105-win team destroyed the Kennedy Rockets in the first three games, outscoring them 21-7. The Rockets tried to make some noise by winning the next two games to make it a 3-2 series, but in Game 6, the Giants dashed any of the Rockets’ hopes with a commanding 7-2 victory.

Galactic Series Preview
The 2581 Galactic Series shouldn’t be a surprise to anybody, as the two 100+ win teams will face each other in the series. The Apollos (106 wins) led the Astro League with 977 runs scored on the season while the Giants (105 wins) also lead the Cosmo League with 976 runs. Buckle up folks. It’s going to be a good one.

Re: Solar League Baseball: A Future History

Game 1: GAN 3 @ LUN 5 – The Luna Apollos started the Galactic Series in style today, downing the visiting Ganymede Giants at Apollodome by a score of 5-3 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Apollos left fielder Angel Navarro was 3 for 4 with a home run and a triple. He scored 2 times and drove in 2.

Game 2: GAN 5 @ LUN 4 - The Ganymede Giants topped the Luna Apollos by the score of 5-4 and moved into a 1-1 tie in the Galactic Series today. The largest share of the credit belongs to Ganymede starter Tom Streight, who threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball in the win.

Ganymede used a well-timed hit by Mike Donnelly to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Giants ahead, 5-4. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

Game 3: LUN 8 @ GAN 5 – With right fielder Todd Jeans leading the charge, the Luna Apollos got past the Ganymede Giants, 8-5, in extra innings in Game 3 of the Galactic Series today. Jeans hit 2 home runs, while adding 6 RBI and scoring twice at Ganymede Grounds as Luna managed to take to a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 series.

The game was all tied up in the top of the 11th, until Jeans delivered big-time for Luna, stroking a dramatic, go-ahead 3-run home run off John Strauss.

"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Jeans.

Game 4: LUN 4 @ GAN 15 – The Ganymede Giants defeated the Luna Apollos, 15-4 in Game 4 of the Galactic Series today. Making an impact was first baseman Michael Watkins, who was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while scoring 4 runs and driving in 3. The win moves Ganymede into a 2-2 tie with Luna in the series. Dimtry Nozdrin also added 5 RBIs while Mike Donnelly also picked up 3 RBIs.

Game 5: LUN 4 @ GAN 7 – The pivotal Game 5 went to the host Ganymede Giants, 7-4. Ganymede designated hitter Mike Donnelly was the key at Ganymede Grounds today, as he powered the Giants to victory in a critical Game 5 of the Galactic Series. The Giants took the 7-4 win over the Luna Apollos to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 series.

The game turned with one out in the bottom of the sixth when Donnelly, who finished 2nd in the CL in slugging percentage with .677 in 2581, hit a 2-run home run. It propelled the Giants into the lead, 5-3.

Game 6: GAN 16 @ LUN 9 – The Ganymede Giants were good enough to get past the Luna Apollos at Apollodome today and secure the 5th championship in franchise history. The new champions capped off a great season with a 16-9 slugfest victory over the Apollos to win the Galactic Series 4-2.

"When you wear Giants on your shirt, you're good at something," Ganymede skipper Sadewa Kim told the press.

Giants first baseman Mike Donnelly was named MVP of the series after he went .417 with 6 home runs and 15 runs batted in the series. He went 3 for 4, slugging 2 homers and driving in 4 runs.

"It feels totally incredible," Donnelly said. "I could live to 1,000 years old and I'd remember this moment."
