Re: Your Ideal College Football Conferences

I set these Conferences up several years ago to maximize traditional rivalries. Each team plays 12 Games. The 10-team conferences play a 9 game round robin, except for the Independence Conference, which only plays 4 conference games. The 12-team conferences play an 8 game conference slate, with various amounts of protected games, depending on the conference. Every conference has a Championship Game. After teams play a traditional (pre-BCS/Bowl Alliance/Bowl Coalition) the #1 and #2 teams in the country are selected to play in the National Championship Game. The 20 teams not listed would ether drop down to FCS or drop Football. Looking back, I probably would've included Buffalo, Nevada, and Lousiana at the expense of Ball State, San Jose State, and Utah State, respectively.

ACC

Re: Your Ideal College Football Conferences

I would remove 2 teams from the current FBS lineup so that there could be 8 conferences of 16 teams each, 4 divisions of 4 teams apiece. 4 upper tier conferences, 4 lower tier.

6 games in division (1 home, 1 away against every other team)
6 games in conference (1 home, 1 away against 2 teams per the other 3 divisions)
3 games out of conference in your tier (1 per conference)
1 designated rivalry game

Top team in every division makes postseason, seeded 1-4
Conference Semifinals - 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3
Conference Finals - winners of semis

8 conference winners are seeded 1-8
Quarterfinals - 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, 4 vs 5
Semifinals
National Championship

The NY6 bowls are the sites for the quarterfinals and semifinals. Natty is at a predetermined site.
