Re: Solar League Baseball: A Future History

Wow, Harmony pulled off the upset! I was hoping one of the two expansion teams could make a run, but I guess I'll root for anyone but Pamoja.

Re: Solar League Baseball: A Future History

Harmony 1’s vs. Mars Warriors
Β
The Mars Warriors started the Astro League Championship Series in style, downing the visiting Harmony 1's in Ares City, Mars by a score of 6-2 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. However, Harmony was just too strong for the Warriors to handle, as the 1’s rattled off four straight wins en route to their fourth straight Galactic Series appearance. Harmony’s offense scored at least 7 runs in all four of these games.
Β
Β
Venus Reign vs. Pamoja Guardians
Β
The 100-win Venus Reign started out strong with two home wins to open the Cosmo League Championship Series. When the series shifted to the largest Lagrange Island station, Pamoja, the Guardians picked up two wins to even the series at 2-2 to give the Reign a brief scare. However, the defending Galactic Series champions weren’t rattled as they picked up a road win to take a 3-2 lead. The series moved back to the skies of Reign where Venus won a tight Game 6. The victory gave the Reign their third consecutive berth in the Galactic Series, all 3 of them coming against Harmony.
Β
Will the Harmony 1’s become a dynasty by winning three Galactic Series titles in four years, or will the Venus Reign become the latest back-to-back winners? Let’s find out in the next post!

Re: Solar League Baseball: A Future History

Yeah, going with the 1's too, just for moral support, (which of course means the Reign will sweep them 4-0)

Tough first playoff experience for the expansion travel teams, hopefully a learning experience for both!

Re: Solar League Baseball: A Future History

I'll be rooting for the 1's, I like their look more than the Reign. Hopefully next year the North Stars and Comets can make more of an impact.

Re: Solar League Baseball: A Future History

Game 1: HAR 3 @ VNR 6 – The Venus Reign started the Galactic Series in style today, downing the visiting Harmony 1's at Sky Stadium on Venus by a score of 6-3 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Reign left fielder Ramon Hernandez was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Hernandez brought the fans to their feet in the bottom of the first, when the former first round draft pick ripped a 2-run home run. The round-tripper put Venus ahead, 2-0. Reign starter Guenther Lewis tossed seven strong innings of 1-run ball and struck out four.
Β
Game 2: HAR 8 @ VNR 5 – He may not do it as often as in his glory days, but Rodrigo Bernal showed today that he can still put on a show.
Β
The 38-year-old Harmony designated hitter blasted the Venus Reign pitching staff in Game 2 of the Galactic Series at Sky Stadium today, helping the 1's to even the series at 1-1. Bernal went 2 for 2 with 2 home runs and 3 walks, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice as the 1's took the 8-5 win.
Β
1’s starter Ynilo Geng racked up 11 strikeouts in his eight innings of work in Game 2.
Β
Β
Game 3: VNR 5 @ HAR 2 – In Game 3, with starter Jose Rivera leading the charge on the road as the series moved to Harmony (the capital of the Space United Nations), the Reign defeated the 1's, 5-2, in the Galactic Series today. The right-hander threw 6 innings allowing 2 runs at 1's Ballpark to help Venus take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 series.
Β
It could also have been a different outcome for Venus, had it not been for Astolfo Farooqi, the slick-fielding third baseman. Farooqi contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put Venus up 5 runs to secure their lead.
Β
Β
Game 4: VNR 5 @ HAR 4 – The Venus Reign went into extra innings against the Harmony 1's but ultimately moved to within one game of winning their second straight Galactic Series title today. The Reign downed the 1's at 1's Ballpark by a score of 5-4. Venus right-hander Mike Hill had a solid outing. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball. The win gave the Reign a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 Galactic Series.
Β
Ramon Hernandez, the 32-year old left fielder, continued his nice streak and had a direct impact on the outcome. Hernandez contributed a bases-loaded, run-scoring walk in the top of the 11th inning to put Venus up, 5-4.
Β
Β
Game 5: VNR 4 @ HAR 0 – It was all about Venus Reign starter Guenther Lewis, a midseason pick-up for the Reign from Atlantis, in Game 5. He dominated the Harmony 1’s as he tossed a complete game shutout with 10 strikeouts, 4 hits, and no walks to lead the Reign to a 4-0 victory.
Β
The win gave the Reign their second straight Galactic Series title and Harmony’s second straight loss. The two teams have faced each other in the past three Galactic Series, and so far the Reign are leading the "series" 2 to 1.Β
Β
The four runs from the Reign came off a pair of two-run homers; Sang-hyum Kim in the 4th inning and Bob Ramirez in the 6th inning. Reign first baseman
Β
Rookie DH/1B Ameirin Perez was named the Series MVP as he racked up 8 hits, hit 2 homers, collected 4 RBIs and batted .381 in the series across 21 at-bats. Honorable mention goes to Lewis, who had the shutout in Game 5, and a strong Game 1 start. For the series, he tossed 16 innings, struck out 14, and had an ERA of 0.56.
Β
"Hitting, pitching, fielding; those are all things you need to win, but most importantly you need a team, a team that works together toward the same collective goal," said Venus manager Greg Sheaffer. "Our players felt that way all year, and they played that way. When one guy had an off day, 24 others stepped up their game and filled the void."
Β
A jovial mood filled the air in the Sky Cities (Cythera & Cyprus) on Venus celebrated into the night. The city's mayor said sky parade plans were underway and a "huge celebration" would be in order.
Β
"I hope they have a big celebration," Harmony manager Masgaba Bengtsson said. "They deserved to win this series and they deserve to celebrate it."
