Semi Finals Preview
Edina Cake Eaters vs Virginia Royals
Edina is back in the Semi Finals for what seems like the hundredth time, all eyes will be on them as they look to finally end the curse and bring home the Cup. To do so they must first get past the Iron Range Champs, Virginia, who are coming off a big win against a very good White Bear team. Will Edina make it back to the finals? Or will the Royals slay the dragon?
Minnetonka Muskies vs Duluth Voyageurs
Minnetonka showed that they are capable of hanging with the big dogs by grounding the Jets, but do they have what it takes to deal with arguably the hottest team in the league? Duluth has come out of nowhere to reach the semi finals, taking down some huge names in the process, including 3 Champions of their respective leagues (2 of them were also ranked in the top 5 at the end of the season). Will Tonka truck their way into the finals? Or will Le Bleus keep the fire going as they look for number 7?

1978 Kellogg Cup Super Series Semi Finals
Edina Cake Eaters vs Virginia Royals
The puck was dropped for the first semi final matchup of the day as Edina took on Virginia to see who will play for a chance at winning the Kellogg Cup. Things got off to a slow start with the teams both feeling each other out for the first part of the game. Edina got on the board 6:41 into the second on a point blast that got through a screen in front. Virginia wouldn't stay down for long though as they answered right back just past the midway point of the game to tie it at 1. The Cake Eaters would pull ahead once again, this time in the final minute of the second thanks to a great individual effort by Ben Hankinson to create a chance from thin air that was capped off with a rifle into the top corner of the net. The crowd was split for who to cheer for with a lot of people cheering for Edina to finally get it done, but a large amount are also sick of Edina always being good and would rather cheer for the northern boys from Virginia. The factions attempted to out chant one another with one beginning "E-D-INA" and the other answering with "Lets Go Royals". Edina was given a powerplay chance in the third where they came inches away from extending their lead, hitting the outside of the post. Virginia made the Eaters pay for missing their chance as they went the other way, beating the Edina goalie on a 2 on 1 chance to tie the game at two apiece. The final horn sounded to send us to Overtime in Bloomington. You could feel the tension in the air as the game resumed to decide a winner. Edina came out of the gates looking like the better team early, getting more shots on goal and controlling play for the most part. It was beginning to look like a second overtime period would be necessary as the clock ticked to under 5 minutes. Virginia broke out of their zone with speed, getting into the Edina zone with numbers. The Royals dropped a pass in the high slot that was picked up and fired through a Cake Eaters legs. The goalie was late to seeing the shot through the screen, getting beat blocker side. Met Center exploded as Virginia hurled themselves over the boards. Edina was crushed, heads drooping on the bench and players laying out face down on the ice in devastation. Edina's legacy of playoff failure continues as they fall in heartbreaking fashion to Virginia.
Minnetonka Muskies vs Duluth Voyageurs
Once the Zamboni had resurfaced the ice, it was time for our evening game of the Semi Finals which pits Minnetonka against Duluth to see who will be taking on Virginia in the final. Unlike the first game, this one got going right off the bat with Tonka scoring twice in the opening 5 minutes of the game to put themselves in great position for the rest of the contest. The Muskies weren't done there though, scoring a third late in the period to make it a 3-0 game after 1. Duluth would come back strong in the second with a pair of goals to make it interesting once again as the third began with Tonka up 3-2. Duluth was really working in the corners, winning battles for the puck, but not being able to make anything out of it as the Musky goalie did all that he could to keep his team in the lead. Tonka finally helped out their tender by burying a one timer to take give themselves a 2 goal cushion. That would turn out to be enough as the Voyageurs failed to get any more on the scoreboard. Minnetonka advances to their first ever Finals appearance, ending le bleus incredible playoff run just short with a 4-2 win.

Kellogg Cup Final Preview
Virginia Royals vs Minnetonka Muskies
One of the most iconic and successful teams in MAHL history looks to end the 40 year drought and keep the Cup in the Iron Range for the fourth year in a row. On the other side are the Minnetonka Muskies who are making their first Finals appearance, having flown under the radar all the way here, taking out some very good teams on their way. Will the Royals be crowned kings of the MAHL for the first time in a generation? Or will Tonka end the "Suburban Curse" and bring the Cup to the Metro for the first time ever?

I could not be happier that my prediction was wrong

Out of all the possible outcomes, I didn't even think about this. I would have to go with Minnetonka on this, they've really been on a roll. Go Muskies! By the way, this will be a beautiful uniform matchup.

And there’s the time honored tradition of Edina choking on their cake. There has to be some sort of toxicity in that locker room, there’s no way always falling short like this is making this team chemistry stronger.

Let's do this, Tonka!

#CrownTheRoyals! Oh and the 'burbs can go commiserate with the "legendary" ColliWobbles in futility.
