Re: The AltHL - Group C Voting & Owner Application!

Boston Pilgrims-Obvious reasons

Los Angeles Drillers-Southern California, due to being an underwater ecosystem in prehistoric times, used to be an oil-drilling hotspot.

Montreal Trappeurs-References the fur traders who settled in Canada during colonial times.

Calgary Spurs-Spurs are the pointy thing that go on cowboys’ feet.

Re: The AltHL - Group C Voting & Owner Application!

My submissions:

The Boston Pirates: Back in the age of Pirates, Boston was a key nest of Pirates.  I wanted to play up Boston's underused relationship with the sea.

The Alberta Clippers: A winter storm that spreads its impact all over North America. Just like the team will.

The Los Angeles Skates / LA Skates: A little dual meaning here.  Skates for hockey of course. But Skates for the fish that are similar to stingrays found in California.

The Montreal Chevaliers (Go Chevs!):  I wanted a french word. Chevaliers is the french word for knights.

Re: The AltHL - Group C Voting & Owner Application!

Boston Anchors- The New England area has a lot of naval and general ship history, being a harbor and all.
Los Angeles Avengers- I know this existed as a arena football team, but it’s a perfect opportunity to name them after the current rise in popularity of the avengers movie, I imagine it like the Might Ducks.
Montreal Dukes- It plays off the french royalty theme that Montreal kinda has.
Calgary Broncos- Alberta is the Texas of Canada right?

Re: The AltHL - Group C Voting & Owner Application!

- Boston Crawdads, in reference to the seafood culture of the East Coast.
- Los Angeles Lions, not really in reference to anything, but it is a symbol of royalty, so it could double as a reference to the city's wealth and entertainment industry (through MGM's mascot being the lion)
- Montreal Chevaliers, I'll echo this one (I used it for my now-dormant series)
- Calgary Colts, a reference to the city's cowboy culture

Montreal Blizzard - Same in English and French
Los Angeles Props - From the movie set and the plane, as LA was home to 6 major aircraft manufacturers
Boston Renaissance - Several top Universities in the area
Calgary Archers - Located on the Bow River and traditionally called Elbow by area First Nations

Don't forget that the nomination process for Group A, closes tomorrow!  Some interesting name choices so far!

Re: The AltHL - Group C Voting & Owner Application!

Hopefully I got this in time!

New England Renegades : a nod to the pirates and American revolutionaries.

Los Angeles Wildfire : I was going to go with California Fire here for the name of the people who fight wildfires, but I didn’t like it as much and LA Flames didn’t quite do it for me.

Montreal Musketeers : named after the standard issue weapon of the Voltiguers from the war of 1812.

Calgary Chargers : Wanted to stick with the western theme and stampede(rs) was taken.

Only the written records of his travels survive.
