1950-51 Offseason

Unable to find a buyer for their respective teams, four DANA franchise owners have sold their clubs to the league for undisclosed amounts. As of August 31, 1950, the Toronto Titans, Montreal Voyageurs, Brooklyn Coasters and Rochester Millers are now under league control.

The DANA Board of Governors will vote in September to determine if the teams can still be sold or if the franchises should be terminated altogether.

Hopefully they can stay in the league and relocate
If I were Cubby Dempsey here’s what I would do
Toronto- Sell the team to Boston Interests
Montreal- Sell to Washington DC Interests
Brooklyn- Sell to Baltimore interests
Rochester- Sell to Pittsburgh Intrests

I could see a westward push, with Minneapolis, St. Louis, Milwaukee as some landing spots. But with some very good options in the East with Boston, Washington, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh, I don't know what would happen. I think that it will be critical to get the teams moved to owners who are motivated to produce successful franchises quickly. The league itself now owns the teams, which means they're responsible to pay the players and all operating costs. That's a big cost the league should be attempting to avoid.

Here's My Idea for Putting Driveball into the 1950's

1. Keep the Toronto Titans and Montreal Voyageurs from Relocating Out of Canada
2. Relocate the Brooklyn and Rochester Teams to Baltimore and St. Louis
3. Rival League to have teams in St. Louis, Milwaukee, Boston, Pittsburgh and maybe teams from the Pacific Coast like Los Angeles, San Francisco and maybe 2 teams from Canada (Vancouver and Calgary, respectively)

1950-51 Offseason

Boston businessman Mickey O'Hare purchases the Brooklyn Coasters and moves the team to his hometown. Playing their home games at Braves Field, the team will now be known as the Boston Unicorns. The name comes from the symbol of the annual Boston Marathon. Walter A. Brown had Unicorns along with Whirlwinds and Olympians as possible names for his basketball team before settling on Celtics.
