CHICAGO, IL - In the city that started it all, the World Football League announced the return of the Chicago Fire. Despite rumors that there was a new group in charge of the Chicago franchise attempting to lure Joe Namath from the NFL, WFL commissioner Gary Davidson told reporters that was not the case. The Fire continue the league's attempt to establish continuity, as only one franchise from the end of the 1974 season has been shifted so far.

Chicago fans will see one major change on the field this season, as the Fire's previous red helmets have been swapped for black ones. "This will let the fire icon stand out much more," explained WFL owner Alex Ryder. "It'll be instantly recognizable both at Soldier Field and the local grocers' gumball machines."
As Ryder said, the Fire will return to Soldier Field, which they share with the NFL's Bears. Team leaders include WR Jack Doblin, who caught 7 touchdowns last year, and S Harry Howard, who had 7 interceptions.
