Sadly the Minnesota Moose were an IHL team in Minnesota in the 90s before moving to Manitoba.

Also, I love that the Name the Team side of things is completely hidden, so we have no idea who's winning.

Yes I thought about that.  I didn't want people to be swayed by the voting of others.  When we release the results I will share the top five names or so to ensure full transparency.  And then if anyone has any questions or are simply interested I can give you a pick behind the curtain to see the full breakdown.

I will say this..the voting has illuminated some common themes for each of the cities.  LA and Montreal are now practically two name races while Calgary is neck and neck.  Should be exciting down the stretch.

California Grizzlies-Pretty self explanatory if you’ve ever seen our flag, I imagine @ more traditional look for this team.

Toronto Shamrocks

Philadelphia Boxers-Reference to the film Rocky and the famous steps of the nearby art museum.

Minnesota Giants-Reference to Paul Bunyan.

The Toronto Terriers: I love the alliteration here.  Back when the NBA first came to Toronto they had considered Terriers.

The Philadelphia Generals: A lot of people are trying to bring a colonial twist for the Philly team which I can get into.  I considered naming the team the Minutemen in honor of nearby Valley Forge but opted for the name with the 'S' at the end.  I envision a unique buff and blue type concept.

The Minnesota Warriors: Perhaps the Eden Hall Warriors from D3 snuck into my head, or perhaps it was a little nod to Warroad hockey.  Just like the sound of it.

The San Francisco Firebirds: Section30 suggested Phoenix which I liked.  So i am just taking it in a slightly different direction.

Toronto Butchers - They have a meat packing industry in the neighbourhoods.

Philadelphia Brigade - Named for the Union army regiment that served in the American Civil War.

Minnesota Geminis - Play on the Twin City's nickname.

San Francisco Peacemakers - Has anyone tried the 'peace' moniker in sports, yet? I mean, you should give peace a chance, right?
