The 1992 campaign started off without a marketable superstar to lure TV viewers in. But midway through the season, two quarterbacks would rise to the challenge. For the expansion Barcelona Dragons, it was one-time Bronco backup Tommy Maddox. For the Orlando Thunder, it was one-time Dolphin backup Scott Mitchell. Even though their respective teams finished second in their divisions, their performance was more than plenty for NFL scouts to sit up and take notice.
After yet another season of disappointment, Luchadores owner Carlos Slim announced he would put his franchise for sale. With no prospect of a Mexico City based buyer showing interest in the Luchadores, the team could be headed elsewhere. One such ownership group could come from Bernie and Lonie Glieberman, a father and son business team that intends to buy the Luchadores and move them to the United States. Another potential buyer is Chicago based businessman Horn Chen.

Scott Mitchell was knocked out of the game with a dislocated shoulder at the start of the second quarter. At that point, Orlando trailed LA 14-0 and it looked like all hope was lost for the Thunder. In the second half, Kerwin Bell came off the bench to help the Thunder come back and dominate.
