“No Luck Needed For Renegades in Sin City”
February 22, 2022
Las Vegas, NV - Former Oklahoma Sooner Jeff Badet took the opening kickoff of the game back for a touchdown and that could have sealed it for the Renegades on Sunday afternoon. Austin MacGinnis would finish the first quarter and start the second quarter with short Field Goals to have the Renegades up 13-0. On the next possesion, Renegade QB Andrew Luck found L'Damien Washington for a 68 yard touchdown as his defender, Deatrick Nichols, blew the coverage and Washington streaked right by him. A MacGinnis Field Goal was the only points scored in the third quarter and the game stood at 23-0. The Outlaws finally broke through the tough Dallas defense on their last possession of the game as Hundley hit Cam Phillips for the 9 yard score, but any chance at a comeback was halted as Luck led a sixteen play drive that culminated in a 10 yard Lance Dunbar touchdown plunge. However, the best news of the day came from the attendance numbers as 27,964 showed up to witness the game, and while that still is well below the league average, it's more than any attendance numbers from Outlaws' home games of last season.

“Stallions Ride Into Los Angeles and Leave Still Undefeated”
March 1, 2022
Los Angeles, CA - After an Xtreme Field Goal, Jordan Ta'amu and the Stallions rode an 18 play drive down to the one yard line before Christine Michael finished the possession in the end zone. Kaepernick then responded with back to back nice drives of his own that concluded with a 13 yard touchdown scamper by David Cobb and a 2 yard Touchdown pass to Tight End Brandon Barnes. After a Stallions Field Goal, the game went to halftime with a score of 17-10 for Los Angeles. After a boring third quarter, that only saw St. Louis add a Field Goal the fourth quarter brought more offense. Kenneth Farrow finished an impressive drive with a 7 yard touchdown run that put the Xtreme up 24 to 13. However, Jordan Ta'amu and the Stallions stuck to the game plan and stayed patient and conservative. Matt Jones decided to take over the game late, where he punched in his first touchdown from 1 yard out, then gave his team the lead when he repeated the feat with 1:37 left in the ballgame.

“More Talent Crossing the Border”
March 4, 2022
Stamford, CT - Last week, long time CFL coach and executive Jim Barker stated that he believed the XFL's talent is sub-par. Barker stated to the Canadian Press, "Who wants to go watch some of the hamburgers they have starting in that league? When you can have steak in so many of their cities, no one will consistently settle for hamburgers. This league won't last long."
Barker, an executive and assistant coach for the Hamilton Tiger-cats, was the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Xtreme back in 2001. But he doesn't care too much for this newest iteration of the league, "When you don't have identifiable marketable players that make people say, "You know what, I want to go see that," then it's really tough to succeed in the states."
All of this didn't sit well with Vince McMahon and the XFL, "All CFL players are open season. We're encouraging our teams and ownership groups to go add as many Canadian hamburgers as they desire this week. Well, except for any players under contract with the Calgary Stampeders, the 2018 and 2021 CFL Champions." That statement definitely got some rumors started.
San Antonio Commanders signed the CFL's top RB Andrew Harris
New Orleans VooDoo signed RB William Powell
New York Guardians signed the CFL's top WR/KR Brandon Banks
Birmingham Iron signed WR Darvin Adams
Los Angeles Xtreme signed WR Luke Tasker
Memphis Express signed OL Jovon Olafioye and Justin Sorenson
New York Guardians signed LB Simoni Lawrence
Las Vegas Outlaws signed DL Davon Coleman and Odell Willis
Baltimore Brigade signed the CFL's top LB Adam Bighill
Orlando Predators signed LB Solomon Elimimian
Philadelphia Soul signed DBs Aaron Grymes and Anthony Orange
Las Vegas Outlaws signed DBs Jamar Wall and Chris Randle
Seattle Dragons signed DB Ed Gainey
San Diego Fleet signed the CFL's top DB Delvin Breaux
Tampa Bay Storm signed DB Maurice Leggett
All players signed were announced in the CFL Top 100 for their 2021 season. This CFL free agency period may be a sign of things to come for the league. The CFL is having a hard time competing with the new XFL money. The average non-QB salaries of the league is currently at 125k vs 60-70k and the gap will widen even more next season.
“Memphis Express Add Local Troubled Young Talent”
March 5, 2022
Memphis, TN - Former five star Defensive End Eyabi Anoma, 2018's #1 DE and #3 overall player, has signed a contract with the XFL's Memphis Express. Anoma will be forfeiting his redshirt-Senior season at the University of Tennessee-Martin this upcoming 2022 season. He's currently projected to be a mid to late round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Anoma signed with Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide out of High School but was dismissed before playing for the team due to violation of team rules, as well as issues with his performance in the classroom. He then transferred to the University of Houston, where he was once again dismissed from the team for the same reasons. He then transferred to UT-Martin where he became a starter as a redshirt-Sophomore and dominated. However, he sat out four games last season due to violation of team rules once again.

The QB room definitely has more talent than the previous two years, but the league may want to look into their own developmental programs. They need to start having a little more home-grown talent rather than relying on only NFL cast-offs and CFL all-stars if it wants long term success.

Barker should know better than to riled up his competition, especially when your league is struggling.

“No Real Losers Found in Baltimore”
March 8, 2022
Baltimore, MD - Bortles got the scoring started in this contest late in the first quarter when he hit veteran WR Derel Walker for an 8 yard Touchdown. Then both team offenses moved the ball consistently in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, but both floundered in the redzone as Lewis Ward and Caleb Sturgis combined for five Field Goals. The score is 16-6 in favor of the Brigade entering the final quarter. Buck Allen then added a 8 yard touchdown run at the beginning of the quarter, to make the score 23-6. Chuba Hubbard responded with a 34 yard touchdown run which seemed to inspire the defense as it forced a three and out from the Brigade. The Monarchs then inched even closer as backup RB James Wilder pounded in a physical 3 yard Touchdown run to bring the score to 23-20. However, Bortles and the Brigade did just enough on the last drive of the game to milk the rest of the clock and satisfy the 47,689 fans in attendance.

“Soul Ends Valor Hot Start”
March 15, 2022
Washington, DC - After a 3-3 first quarter, both teams got the offenses rolling in the 2nd quarter and it started with Jeremy McNichols finding the endzone from 27 yards out, before Orleans Darkwa responded with a 46 yard rushing touchdown to knot it up. DeShone Kizer then Braxton Miller for a 15 yard touchdown pass in quick fashion. Backup Valor RBs, Donnell Pumphrey and Jhurell Pressley, both added rushing touchdowns prior to halftime to give their team the 24-17 lead. Unfortunately for the Valor, their offense was done for the day as the Soul defense wouldn't again let Washington cross midfield. Kizer had a 16 yard scramble to tie things up early in the third and then came back and hit DeAnthony Thomas on a 49 yard streak to put his team up 31-24 going into the final stanza. The Soul would add a FG and call it a day for the away team.

Week 5 finished.
And I may go back and edit the Chuba Hubbard storyline for this timeline after the news that have come out over the last days. He will still be finding his way over to the XFL though, don't worry.
The story in case any of you have missed ..
College football's reigning rushing king, Oklahoma State's Chuba Hubbard, took to Twitter on Monday to take serious exception to a T-shirt worn by his head coach, OSU's Mike Gundy, and added that he "will not be doing anything with Oklahoma State until things CHANGE."Hubbard's dispatch includes a tweet that shows Gundy on a fishing trip wearing an OAN T-shirt, with the running back stating in response: "This is completely insensitive to everything going on in society, and it's unacceptable." OAN, or One America News Network, is known as a far-right news outlet. The running back, a native Canadian set to be a redshirt junior in Stillwater this fall, has established himself as a bona fide 2020 Heisman Trophy candidate. At publishing, it's unclear exactly what Hubbard means by not doing anything with OSU. Oklahoma State OT Teven Jenkins and LB Amen Ogbongbemiga tweeted messages of support for Hubbard, as did Baltimore Ravens RB Justice Hill, who starred at OSU from 2016-2018.Oklahoma State University president Burns Hargis issued this statement via Twitter following Hubbard's tweet:"I hear and respect the concerns expressed by our Black student-athletes. This is a time for unity of purpose to confront racial inequities and injustice. We will not tolerate insensitive behavior by anyone at Oklahoma State."Oklahoma State athletic director Mike Holder also released a statement on Monday, stating "This afternoon has been very disturbing. The tweets from the current and former players are of grave concern."Earlier this month, Florida State star defensive tackle Marvin Wilson tweeted that he and teammates would not work out after he took exception to coach Mike Norvell's characterization of communication between the coach and the Seminoles following protesting over the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. In less than 24 hours, Norvell acknowledged describing his communication with the team poorly, consequently resolving the issue with Wilson and other players.
