Prior to the 1933/34 season the MAHL welcomed its newest member, the first one from across the border.
The Thunder Bay Giants are joining the Lake Superior Hockey League and are looking to add to an already incredibly talented league. The team is named after the Sleeping Giant, if you don't know what that is here's the Wikipedia explanation "The Sleeping Giant is a formation of mesas and sills on Sibley Peninsula which resembles a giant lying on its back when viewed from the west to north-northwest section of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada." The team colors are red and white (cream) as an ode to being the only Canadian team in the league. The Giants logo is a simple TB monogram standing for Thunder Bay.
There was also a change to the St. Paul Victorias this off season. The V-Wings simplified their uniforms to be more similar to their original jerseys, as well as adding a white version for the first time in franchise history.

The 1933/34 season concluded and here are the stories.
Iron Range Hockey League: The Eveleth Reds continue to own the Iron Range, Ely remains at second. The Greyhounds improved on last year and look to not underachieve come playoff time yet again. The Miners remained in fourth place with a solid season. Virginia climbs from last years position but is still short of a playoff birth. And the Rangers and Flames are stuck at the bottom of the league.
Lake Superior Hockey League: Le Bleus took back the top spot in the league inching out the defending champs. The Giants, in their first season finish in third. Superior clinches another playoff birth ahead of the Hornets and Broncos.
Twin Cities Hockey League: The Victorias reclaimed the top spot in the league. Minneapolis jumped up to second in the league with a strong rookie season from their 6'5 bruising defenseman Evan Payne. The top four rounded out with South St. Paul followed by the St. Paul Saints. The Vulcans continue to drop, but likely wont fall past the horrendous Athletics.

Game 1: The Reds claim game one in a close match, scoring the game winning goal with just under 2 minutes left in the game.
Game 2: In another close match, the Reds again got the better of the Wolves and take a 2-0 series lead.
Game 3: The Timberwolves get back in the series by winning on home ice.
Game 4: In the fourth game of the series to be decided by one goal, the Timberwolves defeated the Reds in overtime to tie the series.
Game 5: Back in Eveleth, the Reds fall to the Timberwolves. Two Harbors shut down the Reds offense and took the series lead.
Game 6: With the series back in Two Harbors and with the Timberwolves only needing one more win, the stands were packed for game 6. Eveleth didn't let the pressure get to them though as they played a solid defensive game, scoring one goal on the counter attack and tying the series at 3 apiece.
Game 7: Unlike the prior games, this meeting was an offensive battle. With both teams lighting the lamp multiple times, the Reds entered the third period up 3-2 and buried one more on the empty net to clinch their third Kellogg Cup in 4 years!

Prior to the 1934/35 season, only one team made adjustments.
The Hibbing Greyhounds adjusted their logo to be an H with a Greyhound in the cross bar of the H (based on the Hamilton Tigers old logo). To accompany the new logo the Hounds got a new uniform. Still a navy base with only orange accents, the jersey now has thicker stripes and has 2 on the sleeves and torso rather than one. The mid section stripes are actually made from the new logo with the cross bar of the H extending across the jersey, vertical bars are meant to form a H on the front as well as help be able to read the numbers on the back. This is one of the more "out there" jerseys I've made for this series so far but I think it isn't out of the realm of belief that a team could have done something like this back before the standard style of hockey uniform was developed with normal striping and such.

The 1934/35 season concluded and here are the stories.
Iron Range Hockey League: The Hibbing Greyhounds finished the season at the top of the league, passing the defending champs who finished second and Ely finished in third. The Royals are back in the playoffs, and the Miners fell out. At the bottom of the league are the Flames then Rangers.
Lake Superior Hockey League: Two Harbors squeaked out the top spot in the Lake Superior League just ahead of the Voyageurs. Moving up to third were the Hornets followed by the Giants. The Lakers fell out of the playoffs and Cloquet finished at the bottom of the league.
Twin Cities Hockey League: The Victorias stayed at the top with South St. Paul taking back the second spot. Minneapolis fell to third and the Saints claimed the last playoff spot. The Vulcans continue to disappoint. And Stillwater finished last in the league again, rumors are swirling in local newspapers that the team is on the verge of collapsing and it is only a matter of time until they have to fold.

1935 Kellogg Cup Finals
Game 1: The Mavericks completely roll over the Royals and easily take game 1.
Game 2: Virginia bounces back, as they have all playoffs, and takes game 2.
Game 3: With the series up north, the Mavericks steal a win in a close fought battle to take the series lead.
Game 4: South St. Paul physically beats on the Royals, outhitting them 34 to 11, as well as beat them on the score board 2-0 to take a 3-1 series lead.
Game 5: With a 3-1 series lead and the series heading back to SSP, the Mavs knew it was their time. The game was a tight defensive battle that was tied at 1 apiece at the end of regulation. 11 minutes into the overtime period, the Mavericks entered the offensive zone in a 3 on 1 odd man rush where Mavericks winger Terry Trkla buried a one timer past the goal keeper cementing himself in history. After more than a decade the Kellogg Cup is back in the twin cities as the South St. Paul Mavericks have ended Virginia's Cinderella run, and won their second Cup!

The 1935/36 season saw the league welcome a new member, the Grand Rapids Moose. The Moose are named after the animal which were fairly common in the area at this time. Their colors are orange and brown and their logo is a simple Moose head. Grand Rapids will be joining the Lake Superior League.
Another team from the Lake Superior League made some adjustments prior to the season. The Cloquet Broncos adjusted their uniform, making the stripes thinner and making purple more dominant than yellow.
