Unfortunately for the Fleet, they ran into fellow University of South Dakota alum Chris Streveler in the Championship game.  I may have had some bias there.

It's too bad now that the Fleet will be entering a huge rebuild mode now that the NFL struck their roster.

“There's an XFL Storm Brewing in Tampa” 

September 11, 2020


Tampa, FL - Carolina Hurricanes Owner Thomas Dundon and Dundon Capital Partners Sports and Entertainment LLC announced that they were granted an XFL expansion team, and that team would be the Tampa Bay Storm.  Dundon was quoted saying, "I wouldn't be doing this, if I was going to do it right.  You guys will be very pleased to see the next two individuals I bring out with me."  Dundon then announced Tony Dungy as the team's Head Coach and General Manager and Jameis Winston as the team's starting Quarterback.  Mike DeBord and Ron Zook were named as the Offensive and Defensive Coordinators.  The team would be playing their home games at Raymond James Stadium.

“Memphis Gets the Last 2021 XFL Expansion Team”

Memphis, TN - Memphis Grizzlies Owner Robert Pera and Memphis Sports LLC announced that they were granted the last 2021 expansion spot for the XFL and that they would be bringing the Memphis Express to the league.  Pera then announced Charlie Strong as the first Express Head Coach along with Steve Logan and Mike Minter as the Offensive and Defensive Coordinators.  Justin King would serve as the General Manager.  The Express would be playing their home games at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.

“October a Huge Month for the 2021 XFL”

Stamford, CT - XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck announced that October would be a very hectic month for the league as the league is dealing with a truncated off-season due to COVID-19 pandemic. Luck said that front offices and coaching staffs were still being finished for some of the new expansion teams along with negotiations for new ownership groups and franchise players.  Highlights from Luck's announcement consist of:

-- Salary Cap will remain at $4M for 2021 but franchise players will not count against the cap and the league owner's will determine their salary.

-- All twelve 2020 XFL teams must trim their rosters down to 35 players by October 10th for the expansion draft.

-- The 2021 XFL Expansion Draft will take place on October 15th while the 2021 XFL Rookie Draft will take place the following week on October 22nd.  Both would be airing on ESPN2.

-- The expansion draft will consist of all players made available by the 2020 XFL teams along with any newly signed league players, while the rookie draft will consist of all players who were either in college last year or on the XFL2 developmental rosters.

-- XFL teams would then be allowed to sign and negotiate with all available players following both drafts.  Any players not signed to an XFL team but under league contract would then be assigned to one of the three XFL2 teams.

-- Dallas Mavericks' owner Mark Cuban and Cuban Sports and Entertainment LLC have purchased the Dallas Renegades franchise.

-- Los Angeles Clippers' owner Steve Ballmer and Microsoft Legacy Sports LLC have purchased the Los Angeles Xtreme franchise.

-- Former St. Louis Ram Andrew Kline and Park Lane Sports and Entertainment LLC have purchased the St. Louis Stallions franchise.

“Kaepernick and Tebow Join the XFL!”

Los Angeles, CA - New Los Angeles Xtreme owner Steve Ballmer just announced that the team signed Colin Kaepernick to be their starting Quarterback.  The former San Francisco 49ers' star signed for 2 years $8M and a 10% ownership stake of the team.  Both Connor Cook and Aaron Murray were released from the roster to make a clear path for Kaepernick.

Meanwhile in Orlando, Head Coach Steve Spurrier announced that the team would be releasing veteran EJ Manuel and promoting Garrett Gilbert to the starting spot but he wouldn't be serving as the team's designated franchise player. No, that honor would be going to former Florida Gator and Denver Bronco Tim Tebow.  Tebow signed with the Predators as a Tight End/Fullback/H-Back.

“Veterans Released for Expansion Draft”

Stamford, CT - Each XFL team was required to trim their rosters down to a maximum of thirty-five players and in a bit of a surprise move, a lot of established XFL teams decided to go younger and released some notable veteran players.  The league revealed the list of released players but would not comment on what other NFL veterans would be available for the 2021 XFL Expansion Draft next week.  Released XFL veteran players include QBs Connor Cook, Aaron Murray, EJ Manuel, Brandon Weeden, and Tom Savage, RBs Andre Ellington and Jacquizz Rodgers, WRs Brian Quick, Kenny Britt, Arrelious Benn, Kermit Whitfield, Rod Streater, Terrence Williams and Roger Lewis.
