I can't believe that the Mavericks lost to the Canucks in a bad way. But it's nice to see the Cake Eaters moving on to the next round.
Yeah SSP losing was very unexpected, and to do so without even scoring was an even bigger shocker.

WOOHOO! We're in the Second Round, and both Wisconsin teams are still in it...if both of 'em win in the second round and make it to the Super Series, I will be ON CLOUD NINE.

It's almost like those Wisconsin teams are really good, and Eau Claire should start looking into adding a team...

There have been rumors swirling that the East Metro Hockey League is looking for new teams and Eau Claire has come forward saying they are interested in potentially getting a team.

1973 Kellogg Cup Playoffs; Second Round - North
Roseau Stars vs Warroad Lakers
There wasn't an empty seat in the Roseau Memorial Arena as the Roseau Stars welcomed their biggest rivals to see who will advance to the Super Series. The Green Army was electric, giving their Stars a bit of a jump in their step early. The Stars converted on a turnover in the offensive zone with 3 minutes to go in the first, sending the arena into mayhem. The puck was dropped for the second and we began play. Warroad drew a powerplay 6 minutes in much to the dismay of the Green Army. The Lakers made Roseau pay for the error, finding veteran Oshie all alone in the slot for an easy tap in goal to tie it up. The small section of Warroad fans went nuts in celebration, causing Roseau fans to chant "Let's Go Stars!" the mute the visitors celebration. Warroad was buzzing after the goal, getting a couple more chances before the period expired, beating the Roseau goalie short side on one to take a 2-1 lead going into the third. The third was pretty slow with the Lakers just trying to keep the Stars out of the offensive zone, dumping the puck deep every chance they could and icing it frequently. The plan worked as Roseau was unable to get anything past the Laker goalie. An empty net goal put this one away, sending Warroad to the Super Series, knocking out their arch rivals on the road by a final score of 3-1.
Superior Lakers vs Hibbing Greyhounds
It was a high scoring affair in Wessman Arena between Superior and Hibbing. The Lakers got the scoring started in the first, taking a 2-0 lead into the second. The second was a complete 180 from the first with the Greyhounds having their way with Superior, lighting the lamp 3 times to actually take the lead 3-2. Superior tied it up once again just over a minute into the third and the horn sounded with the score still 3-3. We went to overtime and the Lakers were gaining momentum. They entered the Hounds zone with numbers, dropping the puck at the high circle for a defenseman who wasted no time ripping a shot hard and low. The puck blew past the goalie and into the back of the net, sending Superior to their second Super Series with a 4-3 ot win.
Grand Rapids Moose vs Winnipeg Monarchs
Grand Rapids and Winnipeg are battling for only the second time with the Monarchs winning the first meeting in 1966 on their second Kellogg Cup. The Moose were the favorites in this one and they showed us why, beating Winnipeg at their own game, punishing the Monarchs along the boards and on the scoreboard. Grand Rapids was the better team in this game plain and simple, shutting out the Bruisers to advance to their 4th Super Series by a final score of 3-0.
Brainerd Lumberjacks vs Grand Forks Jets
Breaking their usual start, the Lumberjacks came out for this one focused and determined to return to Bloomington. Grand Forks is a very good hockey team, but Brainerd was just a step ahead of them all game long, winning the races to loose pucks and out working the Jets in the corners. This led to the Jacks controlling possession for most of the game and ultimately winding up on top by a final score of 4-1. This will be the Lumberjacks 6th Super Series appearance.
Let me know what you think, comments are appreciated!

And with that, the Good Lakers advance! Go Superior!

Those Meese are putting on a clinic! 8 goals in two games. The Moose has never been more loose! Someone needs to cage them before they overtake the state.
Hot take:
Lakers move on.

Ah, but they both qualified for the Super Series and aren't necessarily going to play one another. So it's actually a bit of a bold prediction. I still want to see Superior beat Warroad.

St. Peter has one game, only a 14 seed, between them and escaping from mediocrity into the Super Series. Will they do it?
