I DONT CHECK IN ON THIS THREAD FOR A WEEK AND NOW THERES GOING TO BE 21 NEW TEAMS!??!!?
I feel light headed all of a sudden. This is crazy oh my god. With all the real sports suspending their season, i guess im going to have to follow this full time now. You said you have been hinting at this huge expansion for over a year, what hints have you dropped. Also what was the MAHLs reason for such a large expansion? Did all these teams propose at the end of last season? I wonder if more out of state teams will join the league and force a league name change?
2 final notes:
THE COON RAPIDS TRASH PANDAS WILL WIN THE MAHL TITLE IN THE NEXT 10 YEARS
Shout out to my former high school, Hill-Murray for winning the state title this year! I still cant believe they won it!

Haha, I had mentioned a few times that there was going to be an expansion boom in the next few years here and there.
The reason for the giant increase in teams this year was the Twin Cities Hockey League bubble bursting. The Twin Cities has grown rapidly in the last decade or so and the TCHL was the only league in the area. So many teams were applying for teams and not enough spots were available, so these suburbs worked together to form new leagues in the Twin Cities metro.
I don't know if there will be enough out of state teams to justify changing the league name, but I'm definitely not ruling anything out as this league evolves.
Also, congrats to your Pioneers.

It's amazing how much this league has grown.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Now we go east to our next league, the East Metro Hockey League

There are three former members of the TCHL
           - Roseville
           - Stillwater
           - White Bear Lake

None of these teams made any changes to their identity besides promoting their white uniform to home status.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Fridley is a city with a population of nearly 30,000 in the northeast part of the metro. Fridley is home to a state of the art arena currently used by the Anoka Warriors of the North Metro Hockey League. The Foxes will call 4,000 seat Columbia Arena home, sharing their home ice with the Warriors despite being in different leagues.

They will be called the "Foxes" referring to the fur traders that were the first Europeans to settle the city back in the 19th century, as well as for the alliteration. The Foxes colors are orange and purple and their logo is a Fox head.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

You've heard of Canada, but have you heard of Little Canada? Little Canada is a relatively small town of around 4,000, but you can't knock them out just based on their size. The Canadian influence and heritage of the city should give the Canucks a fighting chance against their bigger neighbors. Little Canada will play their home games outdoors at Mapleview Park.

They will be called the "Canucks" referring to the nickname given to Canadians and the cities name. Their logo is a Maple Leaf with Little Canada written inside, their team colors are red and white.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Maplewood is a city of over 25,000 surrounding the northeast and eastern borders of St. Paul. The Retrievers will play their home games at 3,400 seat Aldrich Arena located in Maplewood.

The team will be called the "Retrievers" named in honor of one of the players pet Golden Retriever which had recently passed away. Their logo is a roundel with the team name on the outside and a Golden Retriever in the center. Their team colors are green and red.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Mounds View is a town of just over 10,000 located in the northwest corner of Ramsey County. The Gunners will play their home games outdoors at Random Park (this is a real place) while Shoreview Arena is under construction.

The team will be called the "Gunners" referring to the towns proximity to the Twin Cities Arsenal which increased the towns population post-WW2. Their logo is an MV logo symbolizing the towns name in the team colors of black and red.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Our final expansion team to the East comes from New Brighton. New Brighton has exploded in the last decade, more than tripling their population from 6,000 to just under 20,000 in 10 years. They will play their home games outdoors at Hansen Park.

They will be called the "Polka" referring to the "Polka Dance Party" which has been taking place every year in New Brighton since 1892 to celebrate the cities Eastern European and German heritage. Their logo is a red polka dot with "Polka" script inside. Their colors are red and blue and locals have already begun referring to the team as the "Dots".

Let me know what you think, comments are appreciated!
