Let's go Superior!

Sorry for the lack of posts the last few weeks, I was busy getting married!!! I'm back now though and excited to get back into things, so lets get into it!
1915 Kellogg Cup Quarterfinals
Powderhorn Hockey Club vs Plymouth Hockey Club
The 1915 Kellogg Cup Super Series kicked off with a blowout as the top seeded Powderhorn Hockey Club put on an offensive display, scoring 2 in the first and 3 in both the second and third. Plymouth managed to net a pair as well, but it would only serve as a consolation prize as their best season to date came to an end. Powderhorn advances to the Semifinals with an 8-2 victory over Plymouth.
Superior Hockey Club of Wisconsin vs Anoka Hockey Club
The 4-5 seed game is always the most anticipated of the first round matchups and this year lived up to the hype with Superior and Anoka deadlocked at three after 60 minutes of play. The puck was dropped for overtime and in the blink of an eye it was all over. Superior won the opening faceoff, but a botched D-to-D pass led to an Anoka breakaway. The puck carrier faked a shot before pulling it to his backhand and putting the puck on net. The initial shot was stopped, but the Anoka winger followed up on the shot, slapping the rebound home to send his team to the Semifinals for the second year in a row. Superior gave it their best effort but it just wasn’t enough with Anoka taking the game by a score of 4-3.
Eveleth Hockey Club vs Stillwater Hockey Club
The Reds have established themselves as the standard and they lived up to that reputation in this one as they held a very good Stillwater team to just 12 shots and 1 goal after 60 minutes of play. Eveleth however would bury one in the first, two in the second, and two more in the third to coast to a 5-1 victory and their 7th Semifinal berth in the 9 year history of the Super Series.
St. Cloud Hockey Club vs White Earth Hockey Club
The nightcap went late with the Central Lakes and Headwater champions needing an extra frame to find the winner with the score tied 5-5 after three. White Earth came out strong, leading after both the first and second periods before the Granites tied it up in the third to force overtime. Neither team wanted to make a mistake in the extra frame, slowing the flow of play considerably and resulting in low shot counts for both clubs. It was beginning to look like we were heading for double overtime before St. Cloud intercepted a White Earth pass leading to a 2-on-1. The White Earth defenseman pressured the puck carrier, forcing him to dish it off to his teammate who caught the pass and fired. The shot beat the goalie clean under the glove and into the back of the net with 1:10 left on the clock. St. Cloud is heading to the Semis, knocking out White Earth in overtime by a score of 6-5.
Who do you want? Who do you think will be in the Final?

1915 Kellogg Cup Semifinals
Powderhorn Hockey Club vs Anoka Hockey Club
The teams took the ice in front of a sold out crowd at the St. Paul Hippodrome for the first of two Semifinal matchups. The first period was a bit of a feeling out process with neither team getting on the scoreboard. Things opened up a bit in the second after a deflection put Powderhorn up 1-0. Anoka would respond 4 minutes later to tie things up but a last minute goal put the TCHA champs up 2-1 after two. Powderhorn carried the momentum into the third, scoring just over a minute into the frame to give themselves a bit of a cushion. The boys in blue kept at it, digging at a loose puck in front of the goal and slapping one home to make it a 3-2 game with 12:34 left in the game. Anoka poured on the pressure in the following minutes but Powderhorn withstood the onslaught and remained in front until things leveled back out. The dagger happened with 3:10 left to play when a Powderhorn shot found its way through the mass of bodies in front, completely unseen by the Anoka netminder. Anoka would have no reply. For the second time in club history (1910) the Powderhorn Hockey Club is heading to the Kellogg Cup Final, beating Anoka by a score of 4-2.
Eveleth Hockey Club vs St. Cloud Hockey Club
The nightcap was one of the most anticipated Semifinal matchups in tournament history as the perennial contenders from Eveleth took on the winningest team of the 1914/15 regular season, St. Cloud. Unlike the first game of the night, the offense got started right away with the Granites scoring on their first shot on goal followed by an Eveleth goal just 36 seconds later. The offense didn’t stop there though with the Reds scoring their second 5:54 into the game and St. Cloud netting theirs later in the frame. Tied 2-2 after one, it was anyone's game. The second period was where Eveleth really shined, dominating possession and peppering the St. Cloud goaltender with shot after shot before the whistle blew for the end of the period with the Reds now up 4-2. St. Cloud regrouped after intermission, no doubt having been chewed out by Right Winger/Coach Karl Schmidt, and got back on the scoreboard to make it a one goal game. It remained a 4-3 contest for the next 14 minutes with Eveleth now forced to withstand the Granites relentless attack. The Eveleth goaltender stood tall, keeping his team in front as the clock ticked down to the final minute. Desperate, St. Cloud had their defensemen dropping deeper into the offensive zone as they looked for the equalizer. A shot was kicked aside and the rebound was scooped up by a defenseman in red. He wasted no time chipping the puck off the boards and down the ice, but with their defensemen deep in the zone, it was a footrace to the loose puck heading towards the St. Cloud zone. An Eveleth forward tied up the closest Granite defender, allowing his teammate to swoop in and take the puck alone on a breakaway. He went with a simple no nonsense shot, beating the goalie five-hole to make it a 5-3 game with 37 seconds left to play. For the 7th time in the 9 year history of the Super Series, Eveleth is heading to the Kellogg Cup Final. The Reds hand St. Cloud just their 4th loss of the season and bring their Cup dreams to an end, defeating the Granites by a final score of 5-3.
Will Powderhorn win their first title & keep the cup in Minneapolis? Or will Eveleth reclaim their spot atop the MAHL for the 3rd time?
Let me know what you think, comments are always appreciated!
