The AltHL Season 2025-26
People of the AltHL Ownership, we're starting the process for AltHL a bit early! Why? Because last year we attempted to implement a Minor League system that didn't go well. As such, we will revisit that. In either case, the 2 "extra" bench spots we had last year will be eliminated for this season.
What does that mean? It means that the 2025-26 AltHL Interest sheet is going to be launching. This will also include a few questions regarding the minor league spots and how to implement that.
If you are returning or joining, your first question will be if you would like to implement a minor league system. Regardless of how you answer, you'll then need to determine how many minor league spots you'd like. Initially it was set for 8, but we'll revisit that number as well.
If a minor league system is implemented, this will be worked the same way the AltFL rookie draft is done, and with timing on everything, would be limited to 4 rounds. It would be a one-time thing. I will also be pressuring people to make their picks if you're on the clock because we'll be working on a short deadline to get this in. How will they be budgeted? That has yet to be determined by the AltSports Council.

With the close of the interest sheet time, it's time to announce a few things. We'll start with the Minor League option. This was resoundingly voted as "No", with 14 of the 17 responses saying they would not like to implement the Minor League. Three new owners answered the question of "Are you returning for the 2025-26 season?" as no, I assume since they wouldn't technically be returning, but their votes would not change the outcome of the vote.
Now for those of you that can do math, you'll notice that accounts for 20 people, and the league had only 16 last season. With all 16 teams from last season returning, we will be adding 4 teams! Please welcome:
n00bthtpwnz, who will be taking ownership of the Saskatoon Shockers
716sports, who will be taking ownership of the New York Gargoyles, returning New York to a 4 sport city in the Alt Universe
robertropson, who will be taking ownership of the Seattle Seawolves
And finally, we have a returning owner as well!
sevsdast will be resuming ownership of the Detroit Angels
I will be finalizing the budget sheet and getting that out within a week. As with the AltFL, we will have a keeper deadline slightly earlier than the draft to allow the 4 new/returning teams to go through the Expansion Draft process!

Supplementary update:
With the addition of 4 more teams and a total of 20 teams in the league, all teams will be capped at 2 goalies on their roster. The exception to this will be with the IR, as goalies on the IR will not count towards the 2 goalie limit. This will help ensure there are goalies available for all teams.
