Re: MAHL Redux

Superior Hockey Club of Wisconsin
Coinciding with their move into the Superior Curling Club, the Superior Hockey Club of Wisconsin introduced a monogram logo featuring the teams full initials SHCW in a serifed typeface.

The team adopted a bold new uniform to go with their new logo. The new look keeps their distinct shade of blue and white but introduces a unique stripe style across the whole set. Their new monogram logo is placed over the players hearts in white with a blue outline to allow it to stand out on the stripes.

Re: MAHL Redux

We had another pair of teams making changes up in the Red River Hockey League, one of them adopting a brand new logo as well.

Thief River Falls Hockey Club
The Thieves will be looking a little different as they made their first change in club history, adopting an all new look from uniform to logo, the only thing staying the same are their iconic black and gold stripes. The monogram they’ve used since 1898 has finally been retired with a new TRF logo taking over as the clubs primary mark. The new logo features a big T flanked on either side by an R & F underneath the crossbar at the top of the T.

The new duds for the team are primarily black but feature gold collars and a thick gold chest stripe which contains the club's new logo in the center. The sleeves and socks keep the black and gold stripes of their previous set but makes them a bit thinner. Both the logo and numbers are now black, removing any white present in their original set.

Re: MAHL Redux

Warren Hockey Club
Warren adopted a new look, introducing stripes for the first time but sticking with their green and white color scheme. Their W logo remains the same on the front but the sleeves and socks are now striped. A thick hem stripe lines the bottom of the torso and the shoulders are both colored green as well.

Re: MAHL Redux

Moving down to the Twin Cities we had one club make a change in the Minneapolis Hockey League.

Lake Shore Hockey Club
The Lake Shore Hockey Club made a tweak to their logo. The overall shape of the LS monogram is adjusted, as are the hockey sticks which are changed to match the monogram. A winged puck is also added above the LS monogram.

The Lake Shores new uniform flips the script and promotes gold to primary status. The sweater is solid gold with a blue chest stripe containing the team logo on the front and number on the back in gold. Their socks have also changed and are now striped blue & gold.

Re: MAHL Redux

Our final identity change of the 1908 offseason comes from the St. Paul Hockey Association.

South St. Paul Hockey Club
South St. Paul added some white to their uniforms. The collar and sleeve cuffs are now white and their socks are changed to maroon and white stripes. The front of the sweater now has a white sash across the front with their diagonal old english SSP logo inside of it.

Re: MAHL Redux

I love the new Superior look! I hope Chisholm can go back to their older color scheme, because I like that one a lot more than their new gold and black look.

Thank you, I'm glad you like the new look for Superior! For Chisholm I think going back to red is inevitable since they just made the switch to black out of necessity because of the quick turnaround from the fire to the start of the season.

Re: MAHL Redux

1909 Standings pt. 1

Central Lakes Hockey League
The Brainerd Hockey Club is back on top of the CLHL, taking home the Lake Bowl with a comfortable 9 point lead over the second place finishers by season's end. Little Falls, Alexandria, & Sauk Rapids all had good hockey teams as well and finished near the top of the table. Last year's champs St. Cloud had a rough go of things this year. The Granites were competitive and had a good team, but they just seemed to always end up on the wrong side of 1 goal games, losing a whopping 6 games by just one goal. That rounds out the teams with winning records as Aitkin, Long Prairie, Melrose, and Princeton filled out the middle of the pack. The bottom three consisted of Staples, Mille Lacs, & Sauk Center who will have to look to the future and hope they can turn things around.

Headwater Hockey Association
It was Park Rapids year and there was nobody who was gonna do anything to stop it. The boys in navy and white were an offensive juggernaut on their way to their first title in team history with a 24-7-2 campaign. The Red Lake Nation, Blackduck, Detroit, & Bemidji joined Park Rapids as the class of the league, finishing a league above the rest. Pelican Rapids, Wadena, & Perham were the definition of mediocre, finishing middle of the table. White Earth did better than expected but still ended in 9th with Fergus Falls just one point behind them in 10th. Frazee led the league in losses with 22 but still managed to finish ahead of last place Cass Lake thanks to ties.

Iron Range Hockey League
The Red Menace continues to reign over the Iron Range as Eveleth takes home the Miners Memorial Cup for the 5th year in a row and 9th time in club history. That doesn’t mean it was easy though, far from it in fact. The Reds were in a two team battle with Ely for the entire season, going back and forth with each other in the top two spots before ending with the challengers from Ely failing to dethrone Eveleth by just one measly point. Outside of Eveleth & Ely there were basically two tiers of teams. The upper tier consisted of Grand Rapids, Hibbing, Sparta, Virginia, & Soudan Mine who all finished above .500 and are widely considered some of the best teams in the state. The lower tier was made up of Biwabik, Chisholm, Nashwauk, & Keewatin, all of whom were unable to reach double digit win totals for the year.

North Shore Hockey Association
The Duluth Hockey Club has repeated as North Shore champs, taking home the Lake Superior Cup with a 19-8-3 season. Their rivals from Two Harbors remained in second for the second year in a row, putting pressure on Duluth all year but failing to keep pace in the end. It was a bounceback year for Superior who improved by 8 points compared to their record a year ago. It was basically the opposite for the Zenith Athletic Club who dropped 6 points from last year to finish with a losing record for the first time since 1905. Cloquet and Proctor bring up the rear, both ending with 8 win campaigns. At the end of the season though it was the Redheads who would finish in 5th with Proctor in 6th thanks to ties.

Re: MAHL Redux

1909 Standings pt. 2

Northland Hockey League
The Northland League was incredibly even once again this year with very little separating the top from the bottom. Warroad repeated as champs, holding onto the North Star Cup with an 18-8-6 season. International Falls flipped their place in the standings, going from second last to second place while setting a new club high for wins in a season with 16. Just one point behind them were their neighbors from across the border in Fort Frances followed by Baudette as the only other team to finish above .500 for the year. Grafton, Pembina County, Morden, & Kittson County were all middle of the pack while Roseau was left in the dust with just 8 wins.

Red River Hockey League
The Crooks of Crookston repeated as Red River champions, avoiding having to share the cup for the second year in a row by just one point with Moorhead making a surprise run after years of mediocrity. Crookston and Moorhead were joined by Grand Forks and Red Lake Falls in a four team fight at the top of the table for most of the season. Thief River Falls had a solid team as well but they began to struggle late in the season causing them to fall out of the hunt. Warren finished at .500 with East Grand Forks and Mayville not far behind. There was a bit of a gap to the bottom three finishers with Fargo, Barnesville, & Ada bringing up the rear with seasons to forget.

Minneapolis Hockey League
The reigning Kellogg Cup Champions picked up where they left off, bowling over the Minneapolis Hockey League on their way to their 9th consecutive Washburn Cup (11th overall). The Mill City Hockey Club is considered by many to be the best hockey team in the United States and they look poised and ready to defend their crown at the 1909 Kellogg Cup Super Series. There was a 15 point gap between the Millers and the second place Minneapolis Hockey Club but only two points separated the Minnies from 3rd place Powderhorn. Anoka prevented the all-Minneapolis top four, finishing one spot ahead of Lake Shore. Brooklyn and Richfield were both able to steal a win here and there while Plymouth and West Minneapolis had a rougher go, getting shellacked quite frequently and winning just 7 games combined against the rest of the league.

St. Paul Hockey Association
It was the year of winning your league by one point as White Bear Lake joins Crookston and Eveleth in winning their leagues by the smallest margin possible. There were three teams competing for the SPHA crown by season's end with the White Bears edging out Stillwater and the St. Paul Athletic Club who each finished with 20+ win campaigns. Outside the top three there really wasn’t much separating the rest of the league with East Side, Phoenix Athletic, South St. Paul, West St. Paul, & Rose finishing right around the middle of the pack. Hastings nearly had as many ties as they did wins, going 10-14-9 for the season. Como Park had an incredibly disappointing season, finishing tied for 10th after coming into this season with hopes of competing for the Capital Cup. Tying with Como was North St. Paul with Hudson two games behind them in last.
