Re: The AltHL Season 2024

The Wildcats dominated the Bighorns last week, putting an exclamation point on the game with a 99.9-point victory. It only counts as one game, but it does still put us ahead of Ottawa and into a tie for the first seed with Minnesota, since both teams lost their respective games. Next up on Edmonton's docket is another homs game against an American team, namely the Alaska Auroras. Alaska is also near the bottom of the standings, but is also coming off a huge win against a struggling Rovers squad. We're giving the graphic nod this week to D Bowen Byram, who had 2 assists, 3 hits, and 6 blocks against Denver. #WhatTeam #ClawsUp

Re: The AltHL Season 2024

Okay, so lets talk about some playoff stuff. Did you know there are only 5 games left in the regular season?

So first off, one team is in jeopardy of being eliminated from winning their conference:
The Boston Rovers will be unable to win the American Conference with a loss OR Minnesota Loons win

Three teams are in jeopardy of being eliminated from the playoffs entirely:
- The Charlotte Racers will be eliminated with a loss OR wins by 3 or more of the Milwaukee 48ers, the Halifax Kingfishers, the Winnipeg Arrows, and the Portland Sawblades
- The Denver Bighorns will be eliminated with a loss AND wins by 3 or more of the Milwaukee 48ers, the Halifax Kingfishers, the Winnipeg Arrows, and the Portland Sawblades
- The Alaska Auroras will be eliminated with a loss AND wins by 3 or more of the Milwaukee 48ers, the Halifax Kingfishers, the Winnipeg Arrows, and the Portland Sawblades

Re: The AltHL Season 2024

That was a fun little tournament, but real* hockey is back! In case you forgot, nearly two weeks ago, the Wildcats took down the Auroras. Also of note, the Loons lost, putting Edmonton back on top of the AltHL standings and in control of our own destiny. As we look to keep our paws on the top seed, we head out to Toronto for the first of four consecutive divisional matchups to end the year. It's also our only game remaining on the schedule with a team outside of the top 5, so it's an important win to pick up. Our top performer against Alaska is also one who got it done for Team Canada (though probably not the Wildcat you're thinking of) - W Seth Jarvis, who led the team with two goals and three assists. #WhatTeam #ClawsUp

Re: The AltHL Season 2024

Look at that, the Milwaukee 48ers have knocked off the Boston Rovers, then we had a great tournament during the break leading us to... a road game to Ottawa to take on the Guardians. The Guardians are in the hunt for the top spot in the Canadian Conference, but we're in the hunt for the top spot in the American Conference. We're not doing to do anything unexpected and will be in the standard ivory uniforms. We're gonna feature defenseman Erik Cernak. #ThePeoplesTeam

Re: The AltHL Season 2024

A huge win over Ottawa coupled with the Loons getting upset by the Racers puts us only 1 game back on the Loons with only 3 games remaining. So now we continue our late season road trip with a trip to the U.S. Rocky Mountains and the city of Denver. The Bighorns sit at the bottom of the standings right now, so on paper, we should bring home this win. In practice, we'll bring our top game an look to notch win number 12, make sure we at least maintain our spot one back on the Loons. We're on the road, so in the standard ivory uniforms, and we're featuring the first Mississippi-born player in AltHL history, Mathieu Olivier! #ThePeoplesTeam

Re: The AltHL Season 2024

With a huge comeback win against Toronto, the Wildcats have stayed on top of the AltHL standings, and not only that, have clinched a playoff spot for the first time in our history. We've got a chance to lock up the Canadian Division if we can take care of business in the Battle of Alberta. Calgary, like Edmonton, comes into this game on a four-game winning streak, so you know it's gonna be a good one. Oh, and keep an eye on the Minnesota-Toronto game too, because wins by both the Terriers and Wildcats would clinch the #1 seed for the Cats. We're still celebrating Team Canada's 4 Nations victory by honoring the other member of that team, G Jordan Binnington. The Ontario native saved 78 of 82 Terrier shots while earning ... 3 wins? Sure. #WhatTeam #ClawsUp

If any contenders are interested in an elite center I have added Auston Matthews to the trading block

Re: The AltHL Season 2024

This edition of the Battle of Alberta was a shootout, but the Wildcats prevailed to clinch the Canadian Division and a top-two seed. We head out for an East Canada road trip to finish off the year, starting in the nation's capital. The Guardians are right in the thick of it, currently sitting at #6, so we'll have to be on our A-game if we want to clinch home ice on our own terms. We'll also be rooting for Milwaukee this week in case we don't. For game 21, we're featuring the man who wears #21, W Aliaksei Protas. The Belarusian has been quietly lighting up the scoreboard this season, but turned it up a notch against Calgary, with two goals and three assists, including two short-handed points. #WhatTeam #ClawsUp

Re: The AltHL Season 2024

A big win on the road against Denver puts us in great situation for this week. It's simple, we head to Minneapolis to face the American Conference leading Minnesota Loons needing a win to re-take the top spot in the conference. A loss however will give the division title to the Loons. So we'll be in the ivory uniforms for this one, and are featuring the goalie with the great mustache, Stuart Skinner. #ThePeoplesTeam

Re: The AltHL Season 2024

So AltHL is looking pretty solid. We have 1 week left, and aside for the top seed, every other seed is at stake! Edmonton has won the Canadian Conference and locked up the top seed. And let's not forget their counterparts from Alberta, as the Calgary Wranglers have also clinched a playoff spot.

Meanwhile, the American Conference has a tie atop the conference. Milwaukee and Minnesota have both clinched a playoff spot, but the last week will determine who wins the conference. Milwaukee holds a 258 point lead going into the week over the Loons, so that is unlikely to change, so we'll say if the 48ers can beat the Ghosts at home, they'll win the American. The Loons would likely need to go on the road to Boston and knock off the Rovers, plus get Chicago to beat Milwaukee.

Now, we'll cover who is eliminated: the Charlotte Racers, Denver Bighorns, Alaska Auroras, Chicago Ghosts, Toronto Terriers, Boston Rovers, and Montreal Chevaliers.

The final 5 teams are all competing for the final 4 playoff spots. The easiest situations: the Halifax Kingfishers, Quebec Owls, Winnipeg Arrows, and Ottawa Guardians are all in with a win or tie. Portland will need to win and get at least one loss from those 4 teams to enter a tiebreaker situation. Portland has a head-to-head tiebreaker on only one of those teams, the Halifax Kingfishers, and is 103 points behind the lowest scorer of the 4. So this likely means Portland will need to win against the Auroras on the road, and Ottawa to beat Halifax at home. I'm not going to go over every situation, because there are a lot of them. But here's the matchups for those 5 teams:
Edmonton @ Quebec, Ottawa @ Halifax, Portland @ Alaska, Winnipeg @ Toronto
