Re: AltLiga Season 2024-25

A big slate of games in the GEO Cup comes to a close, and we saw a couple matches that will go a long way to determining who wins their pool in the Pool Play. On the World side of things, Sydney Harbour FC has the most prolific scoring game of this AltLiga season, while their opponents, CF Federal, have the most inept scoring game of the season, and the Anchors pick up a 133 point win. Club de Ragatas do Independencia pull off a big win over defending GEO Cup champion Joburg City 94 with a 61 point win. And Eye of the Sun moves to 3-0-0 in GEO Cup action with a 33 point win over FC Tokyo Sakura.

On the European side, FC Alfa Roma gets their second win by knocking off 1. VfV 1158 Munich by 26 points. Inter Istanbul wins a big one over Atlético Barcelona with a 17 point win. And Olympique de Bastille nabs the closest win of the week, a 13 point win over Amsterdam KVV.

In the Global Series, Athens, Greece saw Bukchon Hanok Stripes double up St. Mungo with a 29 point win, giving the World their first victory in the Global Series.

As we head into game 4 of the GEO Cup, there are, of course, more big games to watch.

In the European pool, you'll see Amsterdam KVV head to the Mediterranean Coast of Spain to take on Atlético Barcelona. 1. VfV 1158 Munich welcomes Olympique de Bastille to Germany. And St. Mungo FC sees a bit of Asia as they head to Turkey to take on Inter Istanbul. The World pool sees FC Tokyo Sakura heading to Brazil to take on Club de Ragatas do Independencia. The Golden Lions of Joburg City 94 head to Mexico City to face the Quetzals of CF Federal. And Sydney Harbour FC heads to South Korea to take on Bukchon Hanok Stripes.

The 4th Global Series matchup of the 2024-25 GEO Cup heads to Beijing, China, featuring FC Alfa Roma and Eye of the Sun FC.

Re: AltLiga Season 2024-25

Following the win over FC Tokyo Sakura, Eye of the Sun FC sits atop the World Pool. However, Sydney has a game in hand still, so it's still anyone's race. This week, however, we're getting our break from the GEO Cup and heading to Beijing, China to play FC Alfa Roma in the Global Series. We're going to look to even the series at 2 apiece with this one, and will be in our standard kit. Our featured player is Sierra Leonean defenseman Trevoh Chalobah! #TheGoldStandard

Re: AltLiga Season 2024-25

To put it simply, we did not have a good game against Independencia. We're in a bit of a pinch trying to defend our GEO Cup title, so we'll have to play lights out for the remainder of our games and have a little help along the way. We'll attempt to rebound against Federal, who had an even worse game against Sydney. Unfortunately for us, injuries to two of our defenders made us to make some changes, going in a 3-4-3 formation while we figure out their timetables. Featured for this week is goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who (ironically) was lights out defending the goal, getting 5 saves and a clean sheet in a dominant performance.

Re: AltLiga Season 2024-25

Our game with Istanbul did not go how we planned, as we've taken our first loss of the Geo Cup. This is despite a stellar performance from captain Son Heung-Min, who scored a goal and added two assists, but it wasn't enough to keep up in a high-scoring performance. Coincidentally, Son was the featured player the last time we played our next opponent, Amsterdam KVV. The Lions have struggled so far in Geo Cup play, having yet to earn a point, and we certainly don't want to give them their first, so we'll have to be on top of our game this week.

Re: AltLiga Season 2024-25

We went to China and played an awful game. And to top that off, star player Bukayo Saka picked up a hamstring injury. On the bright side, we don't have to travel as far to get to our next matchup, as we head to Australia to take on Sydney Harbour FC. New trade acquisition (look, I'm not going to pretend it makes sense) Alexis Mac Allister definitely didn't let us down, and deserves to be the featured player this week as we look to pick up some valuable points against the Anchors. #TheGoldStandard

Re: AltLiga Season 2024-25

Also, here's the table. On the European side of things, Inter Istanbul is the first team to hit double digit points, and sit 3 points ahead of 1. VfV 1158 Munich and FC Alfa Roma is 6 points back with a game in hand. On the World side of things, both Eye of the Sun FC and Sydney Harbour FC are sitting at 9 points with Ragatas only 3 points back with a game in hand.

The game 5 matchups have some important matches, and none more so than the Eye of the Sun FC against Sydney Harbour FC match on the world side. The World side also features Club de Ragatas do Independencia traveling to Seoul to take on Bukchon Hanok Stripes, and FC Tokyo Sakura heading to South Africa to face Joburg City 94. On the European side, you'll see 1. VfV 1158 Munich heading to Spain to face Atlético Barcelona, FC Alfa Roma journeying to The Netherlands to face Amsterdam KVV, and St. Mungo FC welcoming Olympique de Bastille to Glasgow.
The Global Series matchup this week will be from Casablanca, Morocco, as the European side look to lock up home field advantage in the GEO Cup Finals. Traveling to Western Africa will be Inter Istanbul and CF Federal!

Re: AltLiga Season 2024-25

That was not what we were looking for. Atlético laid an egg against Amsterdam, hampering our chase for the Geo Cup. We do still technically have a path to win the European group, but at this point, we just need to make sure we can get back on track once the standings start up again. That's especially true for this Boxing Day clash, as we have a much tougher matchup against 1. VfV 1158 Munich. Our top player last week was M Mateus Fernandes, who won two tackles and three aerials, and delivered one of our three (count 'em) key passes of the match.
