Re: AltLiga Season 2024-25

That was ... extremely not how we wanted to finish out the first half of the regular season. Atlético completely fell flat against Olympique and head into Geo Cup play out of the playoff picture. Fortunately, we get an extra week to tune up, as we're the first European team to play in the brand new Global Series. We'll be heading to sunny Buenos Aires to meet up with Sydney Harbour FC for a game that in all likelihood will not matter. But hey, we're still gonna play it and you should still watch it. We're technically the visitors for this one, so we're bringing along the periwinkle set to make sure we clash with the Dockers' dark blue. Our best player last week (not that it was a particularly high bar) was M Facundo Buonanotte, who scored our only goal of the match, and also contributed a key pass and two interceptions.

Re: AltLiga Season 2024-25

We finish out the first half of the season on the right foot, easily taking down Bukchon Hanok to put ourselves back in the playoff picture. And to start off the GEO Cup, we're taking on.... Bukchon Hanok Stripes. Huh. I'm getting an odd feeling of deja vu from this. Oh well, I guess they're ready for round two then. Featured for this week is F Evanilson, who drew 3 penalty kicks last week and assisted thrice in a great supporting effort.

Re: AltLiga Season 2024-25

Following game one of the GEO Cup, the table sees three teams atop each group. In the European Group, you saw 1. VfV 1158 Munich take down Amsterdam KVV by 30, FC Alfa Roma bring home a 16 point win over St. Mungo FC, and Inter Istanbul notch a 14 point win over Olympique de Bastille. On the World Side, Club de Ragatas do Independencia was outscored by Eye of the Sun by 33, CF Federal claimed a 17 point win over FC Tokyo Sakura, and Joburg City 94 squeaked out a less than one point win over Bukchon Hanok Stripes. And, of course, we can't forget about Atletico Barcelona getting a 22 point win over Sydney Harbour FC in Buenos Aires to open the Global Series. Here's the table:

EDIT: I'm not fixing the graphic with Joburg City 94 in the points section. They have 3, not 1, just like the other teams that won.

On to Game 2 of the GEO Cup. On the world side of things, you're going to see Eye of the Sun FC travel to Mexico City to take on CF Federal, FC Tokyo Sakura makes the shortest trip of their season as they go to Seoul to take on Bukchon Hanok Stripes, and Joburg City 94 goes down under to take on Sydney Harbour FC. In the European Group, 1. VfV 1158 Munich heads to Scotland to take on St. Mungo FC, Inter Istanbul hosts Amsterdam KVV, and Atletico Barcelona opens their group play in Rome against FC Alfa Roma. Our Global Series matchup for the week is hosted in Lagos, Nigeria this week, as Olympique de Bastille represents the European side against World representative Club de Ragatas do Independencia.

Re: AltLiga Season 2024-25

Eye of the Sun opened the GEO Cup with a big win over Ragatas. However, all the games in the GEO Cup are big games, as a guaranteed place in the playoffs is at stake. We're on a short turnaround, and we have to get to Mexico City for our next matchup, as we play CF Federal. It'll be a bird battle as the Quetzals host the Falcons, and we look to notch a second win and keep ourselves in the hunt for the GEO Cup crown. Last week we had Andreas Pereira as a late scratch, and had to insert the only available player we had, Serbian defensemen Milos Kerkez. He responded with a big game, with 2 key passes, 2 tackles won, a pair of accurrate crosses, 3 interceptions, and 5 clearances. #TheGoldStandard

Re: AltLiga Season 2024-25

Much like the history of the world, the first conflict of the Global Series ended with a decisive win for Europe over the rest of the planet. Atlético took down the top team in the table to give the European group an edge in the games that don't count, but of course, now we have a lot more games that do count. We start Geo Cup play with our second trip to Italy this season to once again face FC Alfa Roma. Last time we were here, we earned a win, and we'll be looking to repeat that outcome this time around. We will, and always planned to, highlight G Mark Flekken, who totalled seven saves, two clearances, and three high claims succeeded.

Re: AltLiga Season 2024-25

Our rematch against Bukchon Hanok Stripes was a tight one, maybe a little too tight as we hung on to win by just a quarter of a point. We're on a tight schedule to fly into Sydney for our next GEO Cup game to play Sydney Harbour, who are also flying in on short rest from their Global Series game in Buenos Aires. Featured for this week is F Ollie Watkins, who scored a goal and assisted once from six shots and created two chances in our previous matchup.

Re: AltLiga Season 2024-25

With the second game of the GEO Cup in the books, let's recap the action:
In the European Pool, 1. VfV 1158 Munich locked up a 38 point win over St. Mungo FC, Inter Istanbul came from behind to pick up a 7 point win over Amsterdam KVV, and Atlético Barcelona squeaked out a 3 point win over FC Alfa Roma.

In the World Pool, Eye of the Sun FC went on the road to pick up a 9 point win over CF Federal, Bukchon Hanok Stripes picked up a 19 point win over FC Tokyo Sakura, and Sydney Harbour FC nabbed a 7 point win over Joburg City 94.

In the Global Series, Olympique de Bastille and Club de Ragatas met in Lagos, Nigeria, with Olympique picking up a 40 point win.

Here's the table:

We head to the third game of the GEO Cup with some important matchups:

On the World Side of things, CF Federal heads to Australia to take on Sydney Harbour FC, Club de Ragatas do Independencia will play their second consecutive game in Africa as they head south to take on Joburg City 94, and Eye of the Sun FC is off to Japan to take on FC Tokyo Sakura.

The European side sees FC Alfa Roma head to Germany to face 1. VfV 1158 Munich, Inter Istanbul to go to the other side of the Mediterranean to face Atlético Barcelona, and Olympique de Bastille travels to The Netherlands to face Amsterdam KVV.

Your Global Series matchup will be the only Global Series matchup from Europe, as Athens, Greece hosts St. Mungo FC and Bukchon Hanok Stripes.

Re: AltLiga Season 2024-25

We're feeling good so far in the GEO Cup getting three more big points last week against CF Federal, and look to nab 3 more points as we head to Japan. We'll be in the main kits for this one, and are featuring midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, who appears to be getting back on track following an early season injury. #TheGoldStandard

Re: AltLiga Season 2024-25

In our first game of Geo Cup play, Atlético squeaked out a win against Alfa Roma. That leaves us as one of just three undefeated teams left in the European group, and this week, we face another one, as we welcome Inter Istanbul to Camp Vell. We'll need to be on our A-game for one of the most important matchups of group play, and F Jamie Vardy has certainly been on his A-game lately, with 2 goals and 2 assists in our last three games, including one of each against Roma.

Re: AltLiga Season 2024-25

It was a pretty ugly game against Sydney Harbour, but we finished just short of a win. We're returning home to hopefully a better match against Independencia, who are looking for their first win in pool play. Featured for this week is M Mohammed Kudus, who has been great since his return, netting an assist and three shots on target in last week's match.
