Re: AltLiga Season 2023-24

After trailing almost the entire match, the Golden Lions of Joburg snatched victory away from Istanbul at the last second, retaining our 3 point lead in the table. We won't have time to collect ourselves from the previous match, as we're heading north to take on Munich in the last midweek action of the season. They're climbing the table after winning their last 2 games, so winning will once again not come easy for us. Our offense might struggle with an injury to F Ollie Watkins, but we have enough playmakers to make up for such a massive loss. One of those players is D Chris Mepham, who won 3 tackles, had 8 clearances, 6 aerials, and blocked a critical shot while substituting in our defense, solidifying a spot in the starting 11 once again this week. We'll be back in the teals in our attempt to stay on top. #StayGold

Re: AltLiga Season 2023-24

Following Game 26, here's your run down of the playoffs. Minus the cluster of tiebreakers between teams 6-8 and 9-11.

With 4 weeks left, St. Mungo FC, FC Tokyo Sakura, FC Alfa Roma, IFK Stockholm, and London Public FC have been eliminated from the playoffs.

Olympique de Bastille, Berlin 1871, and Inter Istanbul are all three games back with those four to play, needing Amsterdam KVV, Sydney Harbour FC, or 1. VfV 1158 Munich to lose those games to move into the playoffs. Although CD Andes could lose out and finish below one of the three 12-14 teams, CD Andes has clinched a playoff spot via their win in the GEO Cup.

Joburg City 94, Atlético Barcelona, Clube de Ragatas do Independencia, and CD Andes have all clinched playoff spots.

That leaves Eye of the Sun FC. They would need to lose out and have Olympique de Bastille, Berlin 1871, or Inter Istanbul to win out for a tie in the standings, then lose the tiebreaker to that team. Olympique de Bastille has split the series with Eye of the Sun FC, so would need to beat them in points on the season. Inter Istanbul will have split with them, since they must beat Eye of the Sun FC this week, and would also need to beat them in points on the season. Berlin 1871 defeated Eye of the Sun FC in the first matchup, so would have a season sweep over ESFC if they win out and the Falcons lose out.

Re: AltLiga Season 2023-24

With an important win over Alfa last game, Eye of the Sun has nearly locked up a playoff spot. A win over Istanbul this week will ensure that we will make the playoffs. But with 4 weeks to play, we also have the opportunity to get a higher seed, so we're going to keep driving for that. This week is a big match with Inter Istanbul, who need every win they can to stay in the playoff hunt. We're going to be in the standard homes for this one, not that the featured player will be wearing them, as he'll be in goal for us, number 18, Stefan Ortega Moreno! #TheGoldStandard

Re: AltLiga Season 2023-24

Atlético Barcelona have clinched a playoff spot! It wasn't a great game against St. Mungo, but a late goal from F Son Heung-Min put us ahead and saved us the three points. He'll be on the graphic for the second time in three weeks as we finish up this long northern European road trip with a tilt up in Sweden. IFK Stockholm is another team at the bottom of the table, but we've been away from home for nearly a month now, so we'll need to make sure we stay sharp to come away with the win. That said, this is our last away fixture of the season, so after this, it's all foothills from here as we gear up for the postseason.

Re: AltLiga Season 2023-24

Okay, so who's in now?

Clinched playoff spot: Joburg City 94, Clube de Ragatas do Independencia, Eye of the Sun FC, Atlético Barcelona, and CD Andes.

Win and they're in: Amsterdam KVV (or a loss from Berlin 1871 AND Olympique de Bastille)

Needs help: Berlin 1871 and Olympique de Bastille. Both teams are 2 games back with three to play on 1. VfV 1158 Munich and Sydney Harbour FC.

Needs more help: Inter Istanbul. They're three back on 1. VfV 1158 Munich and Sydney Harbour FC AND have Berlin 1871 and Olympique de Bastille one game up on them.

Still eliminated: London Public FC, IFK Stockholm, FC Tokyo Sakura, FC Alfa Roma, and St. Mungo FC

Re: AltLiga Season 2023-24

With the close fought and much needed win over Inter Istanbul, we are now in the 3rd spot on the table (thanks three way tiebreaker with Ragatas and Barcelona!). But more importantly, we've clinched a playoff spot. Next on the list, a road game against Berlin 1871. We'll be wearing the standard main kit, and are featuring midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White! #TheGoldStandard

Re: AltLiga Season 2023-24

It was a fairly convincing win over Munich for the Golden Lions, and thanks to some shenanigans in the bottom of the table our lead has been extended to 6 points. It's the last stretch of the season now, so all we have to do is close out strong to prepare for the playoffs. Part of that is our last game at the Calabash during the regular season, as we welcome CD Andes, the other GEO Cup champion. It will be the de facto title game for a series that concluded several months ago, but it will be closure for both sides to actual have a single champion instead of two. Featured this week in this matchup is M Bruno G., who assisted the offense with two created chances, two interceptions, and six tackles. #StayGold

Re: AltLiga Season 2023-24

Despite a sloppy loss against Stockholm, Atlético still finds themselves in a tie for second place in the table due to a simultaneous loss by Ragatas. We'll have the opportunity to at least partly break that tie, as this week, we play Ragatas. We also begin a three-game homestand this week, as we get to finish off the season with three straight games at Camp Vell. Despite the loss, newcomer D Nélson Semedo was a highlight this past week, finishing with a key pass, three interceptions, and three contests succeeded.

Re: AltLiga Season 2023-24

In the battle for what is likely at best second place in the AltLiga, Atlético defeated Ragatas to put space between those two teams, but didn't get a whole lot of help elsewhere. The one exception was IFK Stockholm, the team we lost to the previous week, beating Amsterdam KVV, the team we play this week. If we can beat them, we can ensure that our three-game homestand to end the regular season is extended to four. Making his kit reveal debut is backflipping midfielder Adam Wharton, who logged an assist, two key passes, and two clearances against Esplendido.
