With another loss, Atlético continues to fall further and further behind the top spot. The playoff spots are starting to get really crowded together, and with Eye just three points behind us, picking up a win on the road will be crucial. We're changing things up in the kit department, rolling with our periwinkle clash kits for the first time in about two months. While the team overall wasn't great last week, D Harry Maguire had a performance to fall in love with, picking up an assist on the offensive end as well as winning three tackles and seven aerials on defense.

The Golden Lions dominated for another week against St. Mungo, extending our winning streak to 4 and are now tied for second place in the table. We welcome Bastille to the Calabash for game two of the homestand, and they're fighting to make into the playoffs being just a game behind the final spot. Our offense has been excellent in the winning streak, with Gabriel putting in a header and Bruno G. knocking in two, Odegaard being an excellent set-up man, and featured player of the week F Danny Welbeck assisting once and creating another chance in our offensive domination over St. Mungo. We're looking to keep the win streak alive to keep climbing to the top. #StayGold

Another week down, and we're moving through the season. Here's the table:

And with our 5th straight win, Joburg are now just 3 points outside of the top spot in the table. Our win over Bastille continued our 4 game streak of doubling our opponent's score, as Ollie Watkins scored twice, Danny Welbeck and Martin Odegaard each scored once, and featured player F Chiedozie Ogbene scored his third goal of the year to shut down Bastille. In a first for a featured player, he'll get the week off after playing two games in a matchweek (don't ask us the logistics on this alright). Our next stretch of games will not be easy, as our next three matches we'll be facing teams in the top 5 in the table. The first challenge is against Amsterdam, who are also within striking distance of the top spot. We're looking to extend the winning streak and keep pace with the top of the table. #StayGold

This is new ground for Atlético, as we find ourselves outside the top two spots of the table for the first time in ... I'm too lazy to look up how long it's been so I'm just gonna say a long time. Maybe that'll motivate us to put together a stronger weak, as we looked pretty week against Eye of the Sun last time out. This time, we face FC Tokyo Sakura, who are coming off an extremely strong outing themselves, so it'll be a tough game, especially since we ... don't have a goalie? for some reason? I don't know, but we're gonna try our best. We're featuring another defenseman this time, as Jarrad Branthwaite finished with 6 aerials and 4 interceptions.

With a big win over Atlético Barcelona, Eye of the Sun is on the upswing. We look to keep our momentum up as we continue our homestand and welcome London Public to the Pyramid. We're going to have to stop them from stealing a win and displaying it in one of their museums, like so many other artifacts. We'll be in the main uniforms for this one, and are featuring young Ivorian forward David Datro Fofana! #TheGoldStandard

It wasn't the domination that we had in past weeks, but the Golden Lions still came out and put Amsterdam in their place. F Ollie Watkins set the tone immediately, scoring a goal just 4 minutes into the match. Featured player F Jean-Phillipe Mateta scored the game-deciding goal late in the game, and proved to be enough to put us on top. And with our abysmal start to our year, Joburg is now tied for the top of the league. In the last game of the homestand, we will fight for the top of the table with the current points leader - Independencia. This will be one of the biggest matches all year, and all eyes will be on us for would could be a regular-season title decider. #StayGold

That one felt good. With a commanding win over Tokyo, Atlético has stayed in control of third in the table, and with the top two teams facing off, we have a pretty good chance to move back into second place. Our defense was especially strong, holding Sakura to the second-fewest points of any team last week, but our offense was somehow even better, as we eked out the highest score on the week by a quarter of a point (don't ask me how you can get a quarter of a point, I don't know either). I say "our offense" but it was mostly F Jordan Ayew, who came through with a goal and an assist plus five key passes. Our next game up is against Istanbul, who are in the first spot outside the playoffs and will be hungry for a win of their own, so we'll have to stay on our game.
