Well, here's a thread for all discussions pertaining to the AltLiga season for 2023-24!

Welcome to the first season of the modern era! The AltLiga season kicks off tomorrow, and one of the league's oldest teams will play host to one of its newest. Atlético Barcelona welcomes Joburg City 94 to Camp Vell, one of Iberia's most scenic and historic stadia. The northwestern stands are built into the foothills of the Serra de Collserola - in fact, it was players chasing footballs into those hills that earned the team its nickname. Representing the team for our opening match is star forward Son Heung-Min.

It's the dawn of a new era of Eye of the Sun FC. We start the season at home, the first game in "The Pyramid" this week as we host Ragatas at EFG Hermes Stadium. Bukayo Saka leads us onto the pitch in this one. #TheGoldStandard

It's the beginning of a new season for the Golden Lions of Joburg City 94 FC, and we're beginning the season on a road trip before our first home match of the year. We travel to Barcelona to take on Atlético to begin the year, and presenting this week's starting XI is star Danish midfielder Martin Ødegaard! #StayGold

Inter Istanbul ventures forth into the season under the "Special One" as newly appointed manager Jose Mourinho leads the Old Club on the road to the Scottish Highlands to play St. Mungo. The Old Club will line up in a 3-3-2-2 to start the year as certain players get fit for future matchdays.

Coming off a tough loss to Ragatas last week in The Pyramid, the Falcons are off to Paris to take on Olympique de Bastille. Both teams are looking to notch their first win of the season, as everyone prefers winning. At least that's my belief. We're going to be in the primary ivory kits for this one, and we're highlighting our lone player that plays for the French National Team in this one, defender Raphael Varane. #TheGoldStandard

Bernd Leno was a brick wall last week, so he gets the honor of being on this week's graphic.

Thank you Barcelona! Atlético treated Camp Vell to a dominant win in their inaugural AltLiga match, as our defense held Joburg to just 28.75 points - which feels high, but it was the lowest in the league. Now, we must say adéu and adios as we embark on a three-week road trip (or at least three matchdays, I didn't bother to check the actual length). First on the list is a quick jaunt across the Sea of Sardinia to the beautiful city of Rome. Alfa is coming off a loss against Sydney Harbour, so they'll be hungry to get in the win column. Despite our defense's performance, our highest individual performer was 23-year-old forward phenom Julián Álvarez, with one assist and a whopping six key passes.
