Lower Body Injury

I don't track how they actually got hurt or what injury they are dealing with, I only may mention it for story purposes and I make it up for the few players. I also haven't done extensive research into how long injuries take to heal and all that so I don't feel confident in diagnosing all the injuries accurately and I know it drives me crazy when I do inaccurately portray things (this is also why I don't track yardage and stats outside of the easily trackable ones, well aside from simplicity).

Also, I pick the injuries before I sim the game, so there's like no part of my system that actually will tell me any of that. The best guess is probably tackled someone awkwardly, as you would expect from a linebacker.

Ottawa Royals - 15 @ Providence Gold Stars - 22 - New Providence Stadium - Friday, July 31, 1970 - 7:00 PM ET - FNF - Weather: Cloudy - Attendance: 45,036
1st Q
0-7: PRO - RTD RB Ronnie Byers
7-7: OTT - PTD QB Drake Young -> WR Piers Key
2nd Q
7-14: PRO - RTD RB George Seahorse
7-15: PRO - Single K Gilbert O’Neill
3rd Q
8-15: OTT - Single K Ira Foster
4th Q
15-15: OTT - RTD RB Robert Jack
15-22: PRO - PTD QB Landon Ross -> WR Justin Palmer

Providence bounced back from their loss to Boston last week, to grab their 3rd win in their last 4 games. The defence showed up slowing down the Royals who have struggled as of late with injuries as well as inconsistent play all around, Jean Matieau is certainly going to have to get the team back in shape if they want to stay in playoff contention.

Indiana Victors - 17 @ Halifax Mariners - 21 - Atlantic Stadium - Saturday, August 1, 1970 - 12:00 PM ET/1:00 PM AT - Weather: Cloudy/Light Rain - Attendance: 23,027
1st Q
3-0: IND - FG K Ross Poindexter
2nd Q
3-7: HFX - PTD QB Lyle Painter -> WR Shane Steadman
10-7: IND - RTD RB Shannon West
3rd Q
17-7: IND - PTD QB Tom Applewhite -> WR Silas Peyton
4th Q
17-14: HFX - RTD RB Ed Finley
17-21: HFX - PTD QB Lyle Painter -> WR James Hess

Indiana held a 10-point lead going into the final quarter before QB Lyle Painter led the Mariners on a comeback with a pair of touchdowns. The defence also played a key role with DL Pat Butler, stopping RB Shannon West in the backfield to force a punt late in the 4th which allowed the Mariners to take the lead on the ensuing drive.

Pittsburgh Blacksmiths - 24 @ Louisville Thunder - 10 - Thunder Stadium - Saturday, August 1, 1970 - 3:30 PM ET - Weather: Clear - Attendance: 42,003
1st Q
7-0: PIT - PTD QB Louis Vaughn -> RB Ronald O’Sullivan
2nd Q
7-7: LOU - PTD QB Buck Murphy -> WR Casey Coleman
10-7: PIT - FG K Al Highlander
3rd Q
17-7: PIT - PTD QB Louis Vaughn -> TE Jesse Butler
17-10: LOU - FG K Elvis Franklin
4th Q
24-10: PIT - RTD RB Raymond Green

Pittsburgh's hot streak continued through Louisville as they captured their 4th straight win. The offence kept a good tempo to maintain the lead while the defence continuously made the day a difficult one for QB Buck Murphy, who threw 3 interceptions in the losing effort.

Toronto Steelheads - 11 @ Long Island Raiders - 21 - Long Island Stadium - Saturday, August 1, 1970 - 7:00 PM ET - Weather: Cloudy - Attendance: 40,049
1st Q
0-7: LI - PTD QB Ivan Sanchez -> WR Larry Mossholder
2nd Q
1-7: TOR - Single K Vic Greatwood
3rd Q
1-14: LI - RTD RB Dareion Fields
8-14: TOR - RTD RB Max Tracy
4th Q
11-14: TOR - FG K Vic Greatwood
11-21: LI - RTD RB Dareion Fields

The Raiders hooked up back-to-back wins with a strong showing against the Steelheads. With the defence getting back to health, they would manage to give Toronto a difficult time, especially DL Dallas Breaker who got to QB Todd Baker 3 times. While the Raiders maintain their stop atop the East, the Steelheads are continuing to stumble, losing their 3rd straight game.

Boston Independents - 24 @ Montreal Rouge - 25 - Mount Royal Stadium - Sunday, August 2, 1970 - 1:00 PM ET - Weather: Partly Cloudy - Attendance: 46,430
1st Q
0-7: MTL - PTD QB Gene Bishop -> WR Yahui Sun
0-10: MTL - FG K Frank Hughes
2nd Q
7-10: BOS - PTD QB Nathaniel Braddock -> WR Zachariah Pembroke
7-13: MTL - FG K Frank Hughes
14-13: BOS - RTD RB Reggie Whitehead
3rd Q
14-16: MTL - FG K Frank Hughes
17-16: BOS - FG K Woody Woodstock
4th Q
17-19: MTL - FG K Frank Hughes
24-19: BOS - PTD QB Nathaniel Braddock -> WR Felix Fontaine
24-25: MTL - PTD QB Gene Bishop -> WR Taylor Karis

A classic Bishop V Braddock battle would come down to the wire in Montreal. The Rouge got out to the Early lead, but soon Boston would gain control. The Independents would take a late 5-point lead in the 4th, but Montreal was able to string together one last drive to answer back. WR Taylor Karis caught his league-leading 10th touchdown of the season, being able to get open with Boston’s DB Mordecai King out of the game.

Buffalo Blue Wings - 34 @ London Tigers - 26 - Western Fair Stadium - Sunday, August 2, 1970 - 4:30 PM ET - Weather: Partly Cloudy - Attendance: 28,448
1st Q
0-3: LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth
7-3: BUF - PTD QB Charles Lemieux -> WR Tracy Driscoll
14-3: BUF - PTD QB Charles Lemieux -> WR Jimmy Jack
2nd Q
14-10: LDN - PTD QB Gilles Doucet -> RB Austin Andrews
21-10: BUF - PTD QB Charles Lemieux -> WR Tracy Driscoll
3rd Q
21-17: LDN - RTD RB Jeremy Royal
24-17: BUF - FG K Ryan Perch
24-20: LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth
4th Q
24-23: LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth
31-23: BUF - PTD QB Charles Lemieux -> WR Tracy Driscoll
34-23: BUF - FG K Ryan Perch
34-26: LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth

In their rematch with the Blue Wings, the Tigers made an interesting decision. QB Emmitt Jackson got banged up in the game last week, and while he was probably good to go, the Tigers remained cautious and allowed QB Gilles Doucet to make his first career start over the struggling QB Magnus Torrensen. Doucet faired well, throwing a TD pass and keeping the Tigers in the game, but they were never a match for the Blue Wings which had QB Charles Lemieux throw 4 touchdowns, 3 of which were to WR Tracy Driscoll who took advantage of an injured and inexperienced secondary.

Oh wow, both starting QBs in the Buffalo-London game were mine. Thankfully, Buffalo got the win, but it was a close one. 3-0 against teams nicknamed the Tigers. #FlyWingsFly

Oh dear, I’m beginning to worry a little as a Royals fan. Granted, our players are banged up, but hopefully we can bounce back soon. Also, how has Pete Mayfield done so far in his rookie campaign for London? Have you been able to keep track of that? It’s okay if not, I was just curious.

Yea, he hasn't scored or anything, but he has been starting with London's starting TE Tranquille Rousseau out with an injury. Mayfield is more of a blocking TE, so he fits in with the run-heavy team. Nothing spectacular, but he's playing.

1970 Week 8

Roster Moves
LDN: DB Bernard Wilkins | Active Roster -> Injured Reserve
LDN: DB Alex Pollard | Reserve List -> Active Roster
OTT: RB Corbyn Knight | Injured Reserve -> Active Roster
OTT: RB Théomire Desormeaux | Active Roster -> Reserve List

Regina Wheat Kings - 7 @ Pittsburgh Blacksmiths - 35 - Riverfront Stadium of Pittsburgh - Thursday, August 6, 1970 - 7:00 PM ET - TNF - Weather: Partly Cloudy - Attendance: 47,809
1st Q
0-7: PIT - RTD RB Raymond Green
0-14: PIT - PTD QB Louis Vaughn -> RB Ronald O’Sullivan
2nd Q
0-21: PIT - PTD QB Louis Vaughn -> WR Taylor Austin
3rd Q
7-21: REG - PTD QB Rusty Lamb -> WR Kerry Patrick
7-28: PIT - RTD RB Ronald O’Sullivan
4th Q
7-35: PIT - PTD QB Louis Vaughn -> WR Orlando Barrack

The Blacksmiths and Wheat Kings put their winning streaks on the line for Thursday Night Football. In the end, Pittsburgh, on the back of QB Louis Vaughn’s 3 passing touchdowns would earn their 5th consecutive win. The Regina magic wore off for the Wheat Kings who were outmatched by the red-hot Blacksmiths team.

Louisville Thunder - 20 @ Buffalo Blue Wings - 33 - Milton Charles Stadium - Friday, August 7, 1970 - 7:00 PM ET - FNF - Weather: Clear - Attendance: 53,901
1st Q
0-7: BUF - PTD QB Charles Lemieux -> WR Julius Drake
7-7: LOU - RTD RB Neil Bradley
2nd Q
7-10: BUF - FG K Ryan Perch
7-17: BUF - RTD RB Jasper Dickerson
3rd Q
7-20: BUF - FG K Ryan Perch
10-20: LOU - FG K Elvis Franklin
10-27: BUF - RTD RB Jimmy Golden
13-27: LOU - FG K Elvis Franklin
4th Q
13-30: BUF - FG K Ryan Perch
20-30: LOU - PTD QB Buck Murphy -> WR Casey Coleman
20-33: BUF - FG K Ryan Perch

Buffalo was able to keep pace with the Blacksmiths for the top of the Central with a strong win over the Thunder. The win, led by the Buffalo run-game, was their 4th in a row as they remained tied with Pittsburgh for top spot in the division. The Thunder dropped their 3rd straight game, bringing them back down to .500 after a 4-1 start.

Edmonton Rangers - 30 @ Indiana Victors - 22 - Victory Stadium - Saturday, August 8, 1970 - 3:00 PM ET/1:00 PM MT - Weather: Cloudy - Attendance: 44,719
1st Q
3-0: EDM - FG K Thomas Standberry
3-7: IND - PTD QB Tom Applewhite -> TE Eric Peterson
6-7: EDM - FG K Thomas Standberry
2nd Q
13-7: EDM - RTD RB Gary Hubbard
16-7: EDM - FG K Thomas Standberry
16-14: IND - PTD QB Tom Applewhite -> WR Jake Abbredezzi
3rd Q
16-15: IND - Single K Ross Poindexter
23-15: EDM - PTD QB Blair Collins -> WR Alex Browne Sr.
4th Q
30-15: EDM - RTD RB Gary Hubbard
30-22: IND - PTD QB Tom Applewhite - > WR Jake Abbredezzi

QB Blair Collins returned for the Rangers and helped deliver a crucial win for the team, as they took down the Victors. The resurgent Rangers offence has found its footing getting out to a 30-15 lead on the considered contenders. Indiana still had some punch back with a late touchdown, but it appeared some of the age was showing on the defence as they fell behind.

London Tigers - 36 @ Winnipeg Falcons - 36 - OT - Provencher Park - Saturday, August 8, 1970 - 7:00 PM ET/6:00 PM CT - SNF - Weather: Cloudy - Attendance: 22,522
1st Q
0-3: WPG - FG K Jordan Hollingsworth
3-3: LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth
10-3: LDN - RTD QB Emmitt Jackson
2nd Q
10-10: WPG - PTD QB Emerson Thompson -> WR Terry Upshaw
13-10: LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth
13-13: WPG - FG K Jordan Hollingsworth
3rd Q
20-13: LDN - RTD RB Jeremy Royal
20-20: WPG - RTD RB Joe Rivers
4th Q
20-23: WPG - FG K Jordan Hollingsworth
23-23: LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth
23-30: WPG - PTD QB Emerson Thompson -> WR John Mattison
30-30: LDN - PTD QB Gilles Doucet -> RB Austin Andrews
Overtime
33-30: LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth
33-33: WPG - FG K Jordan Hollingsworth
36-33: LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth
36-36: WPG - FG K Jordan Hollingsworth

London and Winnipeg would have the first tie in the NAAF since August 12, 1967. London had a roller coaster of a game with QB Emmitt Jackson getting his second start of the season, but left early once again, paving the way for QB Gilles Doucet to take over. Doucet performed well again, throwing a game-tying touchdown in the 4th. In overtime, each team traded blows, but after a clutch kick from Jordan Hollingsworth, the Falcons would hold off the Tigers to secure the tie.

Toronto Steelheads - 13 @ Minnesota Serpents - 31 - Midgard Stadium - Sunday, August 9, 1970 - 1:00 PM ET/12:00 PM CT - Weather: Partly Cloudy - Attendance: 48,617
1st Q
7-0: TOR - RTD RB Max Tracy
7-7: MIN - RTD RB Tyler Kuhn
2nd Q
7-14: MIN - PTD QB Martin Keller -> WR Evan Clanton
10-14: TOR - FG K Vic Greatwood
3rd Q
10-17: MIN - FG K Ray Bough
10-24: MIN - RTD RB Hugo Hughes
4th Q
13-24: TOR - FG K Vic Greatwood
13-31: MIN - PTD QB Leonidas Dumont -> WR Sebastian Dassler

After a strong 3-1 start, the Steelheads’ season has completely derailed. Not only did they get beat badly by the West Division-leading Serpents, but they also lost their star RB Max Tracy for the season. Toronto has now slipped to 3-5 following their 4th loss in a row. Concern still reached the Serpents sideline when QB Martin Keller took a hit in the 3rd which led to QB Leonidas Dumont finishing the game. Dumont did great, throwing a touchdown while Keller’s injury is only minor and likely won’t miss a game.

Vancouver Wolves - 32 @ Calgary Tigers - 26 - Tigers Stadium at The Stampede - Sunday, August 9, 1970 - 4:30 PM ET/2:30 PM MT - Weather: Partly Cloudy - Attendance: 27,530
1st Q
7-0: VAN - PTD QB Kevin Westwood -> WR Keshawn Johnston
7-3: CGY - FG K Billy Eichelberger
2nd Q
7-10: CGY - PTD QB Jerome Sheppard -> WR Ted Jackson
10-10: VAN - FG K Sterling Brooks
17-10: VAN - PTD QB Kevin Westwood -> WR Akira Sakamoto
3rd Q
17-13: CGY - FG K Billy Eichelberger
24-13: VAN - RTD RB Jeremiah Morrow
24-16: CGY - FG K Billy Eichelberger
4th Q
25-16: VAN - Single K Sterling Brooks
25-23: CGY - DTD FUM Damian Battles
25-26: CGY - FG K Billy Eichelberger
32-26: VAN - PTD QB Stanley Evans -> WR Akria Sakamoto

The Wolves had another scare coming off of their first loss of the season as the Calgary Tigers would take a late lead on a monster hit and forced fumble from DL Damien Battles. QB Kevin Westwood would receive the hit and be knocked out of the game, leading to a young Saskatchewan Provincial alum, QB Stanley Evans to take over. Evans would throw an interception, but he bounced right back to lead the Wolves on a game-winning drive, certainly getting on the radar of some other teams’ scouts.

Re: North American Association of Football - NAAF

Toronto can't keep relying on Max Tracy because all the injuries might force him to retire early. Also, Buffalo won again, that's great
