A name-the-team contest is about to begin, with the winner scheduled to be announced this May. The contest is open to all who live within the MAHL's footprint, and it is expected that several of the entries will be to honor local MAHL teams.
Is this just recapping real life events or will this be an adjusted fictional storyline mirroring real life?
The plan is for everything that happened in real life to happen in this universe's NHL...only involve a few MAHL tie-ins here and there.

I don’t really see why a fan vote needs to take place for a league that’s not associated with the thread. I think North Stars is fine and the focus should stay on the MAHL. Was there a plan to include a logo and jersey too?

Sorry Burmy, I don't think a fan vote is necessary. The point of the story line was more to show how Minnesota could support a hockey team by showing the NHL President around the MAHL.
I forgot to mention which games Campbell went to from each league. Blue Earth, Mankato at New Ulm. Granite, St. Cloud at Brainerd. Iron Range, Virginia at Hibbing. Lake Superior, Cloquet Broncos at Duluth Voyageurs. Northland, Warroad at Roseau. Red River, East Grand Forks Pointers at Thief River Falls. Twin Cities East, St. Paul Victorias at St. Paul Saints. Twin Cities West, Twin Cities Vulcans at Minneapolis Millers. Valley, Rochester Robins at Rochester Mustangs.

All good...the plan was always for the team name to be the North Stars as it is IRL (though some would speculate that Roseau's success played a small role).
Now I'll just watch it play out quietly...

1966 Kellogg Cup Playoffs; Knockout Round
Bloomington Bears vs Little Falls Pilots
The Bears came out the better team in the first, netting two goals on 11 shots. Little Falls would get one of those back in the second, but the third was scoreless, resulting in Bloomington advancing.
Rochester Mustangs vs St. Peter Governors
St. Peter was lucky to get into the playoffs, being in a 5 team league and finishing 4 games below 500. The Mustangs feel underappreciated, and used this game as a chance to flex their offensive muscles a bit, scoring 4 times. They did allow 2 goals against in that span, but they were never really in danger of falling behind.
West St. Paul Waves vs South St. Paul Mavericks
A playoff edition of the Battle for the Wood Slab, this one was going to be a battle. The Mavs drew first blood, getting a good tip in front. West St. Paul would bounce back with a goal of their own, then another in the second to gain a 2-1 lead. SSP got a powerplay chance in the third and capitalized, tying things once again and forcing overtime. The puck was dropped for overtime between these two Twin Cities Hockey League rivals. West St. Paul won the draw and broke through the South St. Paul blue line, taking a quick shot from the high circle that was blocked and broken out by the Mavs. SSP went back the other way on a 3 on 2, looking for an open pass. Nothing was open and the forward decided to take the shot. He fired it hard and on the ice. The goalie stacked his pads and made the save, but the rebound was hard and was battered back on goal, into the open net sending the Mavericks on and the Waves home.
Sioux Falls Packers vs Austin Mavericks
The Mavericks went into "The Slaughterhouse" as Sioux Falls Arena has become known, and didn't stand a chance. The Packers may not have had the greatest regular season, but the talent is still there, and we saw glimpses of it here, when it counted. Sioux Falls scored thrice and played great defense, only allowing one goal against in a 3-1 victory.

Way to go Bears!
As your lil' city is becoming the epicenter of Twin Cities major league sports (with the North Stars comin' into your backyard), you're all about making sure folks remember that it's still a nice city with its own awesome characteristics...bring on the Mighty Millers.

1966 Kellogg Cup Playoffs; First Round Day 1
Minneapolis Millers vs Bloomington Bears
The Twin Cities League champs took on the Bears and did as they had done in the regular season, outplaying Bloomington and getting the W.
St. Cloud Bearcats vs Edina Cake Eaters
St. Cloud and Edina felt each other out in the first, neither side getting much going. Edina opened the scoring on a great passing play, then added another in the final minute of the second. The Eaters managed to kill the clock in the third and finished off the shutout win against St. Cloud.
Twin Cities Vulcans vs Rochester Mustangs
The Vulcans and Mustangs skated fairly evenly throughout the first, though the Vulcans led 2-1 after the first. The second was slow, with nothing exciting happening. The third was all Vulcans, out shooting Rochester 13-3 in the period and netting two more to win by a final score of 4-1.
St. Paul Victorias vs Fergus Falls Cyclones
Fergus Falls took an early lead and held it throughout the first. The Vulcans bounced back in the second, scoring 3 times to the Cyclones 1 in the second. The Clones tied things at 3 early in the third, and overtime was needed. What began as a high scoring affair, turned into defensive deadlock as neither side allowed the other any space whatsoever. Two overtimes would come and go wand we were still tied 3-3. A third overtime began and the V's better endurance began to come into play, looking fresher than the Cyclones and getting some good chances. One of these chances turned into a fortunate deflection that redirected the puck into the back of the net sending the Victorias to the second round.
Winnipeg Monarchs vs Crookston Kings
The Monarchs kept their train rolling this season and didn't show any signs of stopping in this game against the Kings. Winnipeg jumped out to a 1-0 lead after 1, then made it 2-0 after two, and finally added two more in the third while only allowing one to easily advance 4-1.
Grand Rapids Moose vs Warroad Lakers
This one was a classic. The first was high scoring, with the Lakers taking a 2-0 lead within the first ten minutes, but Grand Rapids would bring the score to within one after one. The second was back and forth, both teams had a powerplay opportunity, but no goals were scored. The Lakers came out for the third looking to build on their lead and they came so close, ringing a shot off the pipe. The Moose were able to get a stoppage and call a timeout with 6:27 left in the game. They set up in the Warroad zone, forcing the puck into the slot, hoping to find a Moose. A pass deflected off a skate to Didi Miller on the wing who looked for a shot, but Lakers were laying on the ice, blocking the shot. Miller waited, and raced behind the net, tucking the puck inside the pose just before the diving goalie got his stick there, sending Grand Rapids to the second round. The headline in the Grand Rapids Herald the following read "The Moose Are Loose! - Moose win first playoff game in 3 years and look to make a deep playoff run this year".
Roseau Stars vs Steinbach Barbarians
It was a Northland Hockey League Battle at the Roseau Memorial Arena. The Stars seemed to have an extra man with their boisterous hometown crowd known as the "Green Army". The Stars used the advantage, cruising to a 3-1 win over the Barbarians, out shooting them 30-21.
Cloquet Broncos vs Grand Rapids Jets
Grand Rapids jumped out to a surprise lead late in the first, going into the second with momentum and nearly making it 2 or 3 to nothing. The Broncos woke up in third, tying the game 7 minutes into the third and taking the lead with a little over 5 minutes left on a Millen snipe. The final horn sounded, completing the comeback for Cloquet.

1966 Kellogg Cup Playoffs; First Round Day 2
St. Paul Saints vs South St. Paul Mavericks
The Mavericks looked good out of the gate, but never put together any real chances. The Saints got on the board in the second, giving them momentum and a lead. St. Paul added one more in the third on a rebound to all but put the final dagger in the Mavs, winning this one 2-0 and advancing.
Mankato Moose vs New Ulm Brewers
Former Valley League doormats, now a respected squad from La Crosse, marched into Mankato to play the Moose. These two were very evenly matched with the Brewers speed canceling out the Mankato attack. Regulation would end and we needed overtime. The play was even like the majority of the game for the opening 5 minutes or so, but the hometown Moose finally put together an attack that connected, setting up a beautiful team play leading to a goal, sending Mankato the the second round.
Brainerd Lumberjacks vs Sioux Falls Packers
After no scoring in the first, things opened up in the third with Brainerd striking twice within 4 minutes. Sioux Falls would then respond with 2 goals of their own, but the Jacks got back on top in the final minute of the second to have a 3-2 lead after 2. Brainerd was called for charging and the Packers tied things up. Sioux Falls had quite a bit of momentum from tying the game and silencing the crowd, and they got a couple odd man rushes. One of which found the back of the net, giving the Packers a 4-3 lead with just over 6 minutes to play. The clock ran down to zero and the Packers still had the lead, sending the Lumberjacks home much sooner than expected.
Rochester Robins vs New Ulm Bavarians
New Ulm came in and had their way in the first, scoring twice and out shooting the hometown Robins 11-3. Things switched in the second though, with the Bavarians looking much more lethargic, like they had already done enough with a 2 goal lead. The Robins gave the Diamonds a wake up call early in the second and struck twice more before the third had begun. The Robins, with all the momentum at this point, added one more in the third, crushing the Bavarians dreams and completing the comeback.
Thief River Falls Railers vs Hibbing Greyhounds
The Railers defense held the Hounds off the board all game long, allowing the Railers to advance with a convincing 2-0 shut out win.
East Grand Forks Pointers vs Thunder Bay Giants
Thunder Bay got the scoring started early, taking a 1-0 lead 3 minutes into the game. EGF didn't respond until the second when they capitalized on a Giants penalty. Regulation ended and overtime was needed. Thunder Bay blocked a shot and went the other way on a 3 on 1 where they made a cross crease pass for an easy tap in goal, upsetting the Pointers and advancing.
Duluth Voyageurs vs Duluth Hornets
It was the first playoff meeting between these two cross town rivals in nearly two decades, but trust me there is no love lost between these neighbors. The DECC was packed to the brim with fans of both squads as the teams got onto the ice. Le bleus got on the board first thanks to rookie sensation Ricky Williams. The Hornets would tie things up before the end of the first however. The Hornets got their first lead of the game in the second, but it was short lived as the Voyageurs answered with 2 goals of their own to take back the lead. The Voyageurs would add an empty netter in the third to cap off the victory over their bitter rivals.
Ely Black Bears vs Virginia Royals
Iron Range Hockey at its finest, two of the winningest teams in the MAHL going at it, what a treat. The Royals got things going late in the first, taking a lead heading into the second. Ely would get on the board midway through the second, knotting it at 1 heading into the third. The Black Bears converted on a breakaway to take their first lead of the game and put the dagger through Virginia, hitting the empty netter with over a minute to go, clinching the victory for Ely.

And with that, all my favorite teams are eliminated. I guess I'm a Cake Eaters fan for this postseason.
