Re: Yorkland Hockey League

Guess who's back... back again....

Picking up where we left off ... it's time for the 2007 season off-season news and standings.

To kick things off, the Bayleigh Peach Kings have revealed a new identity heading into the 2007 season:

The Peach Kings remain with the teal and peach colour scheme but have moved to a crowned B logo.

********************************************************************************************************

The 2007 season opened up with Cayuga raising their banners to the rafters after dominating in 2006:

The 2007 Outdoor Clash was awarded to the Lake Hope Lions, who hosted the Mount Faith Eruption at Primal Foods Stadium in Lake Hope.

The Lions brought back the dominant greys for the occasion, while Mount Faith went with a red and yellow colour rush scheme.

********************************************************************************************************
The 2007 standings looked as follows:

In the East, Cayuga wins the Prime Ministers Trophy for the third year in a row, running away with the regular season and they look like they will be a force in the playoffs yet again.

Cayuga will host South Beach in the first round, while Kelly City will host Bayleigh, both of whom had outstanding seasons in their own right. The road to the Pacino Cup in the East may be the toughest it's ever been as all 4 teams could realistically represent the East.

In the West, the Bentley Stars continue their playoff streak, winning the division with 132 points and will take on Dawn Mills in the first round. The other quarter final will see the Fort Theory Generals take on the Brooklynn Blackhawks.

Re: Yorkland Hockey League

2007 Pacino Cup Playoffs - Divisional Finals Round

Fort Theory Generals vs. Brooklynn Blackhawks
A re-match from the 2006 opening round with a much different decision. In 2006, Fort Theory won an insanely close back and forth series in 7 games after surviving game 7 with a 5-2 win. In 2007, Brooklynn would get their revenge, not only winning the series but sweeping the Generals from playoffs in 4 straight.

Bentley Stars vs. Dawn Mills Devil Rays
Bentley returns to the Western Conference Final for the second straight season, taking out the Rays in 6. After going down 3-0, the Devil Rays fought back to send it to a Game 6 but ran out of steam, getting blown out 8-1 in the series clinching game as Bentley advances to face their rivals in Brooklynn.

Kelly City Lakers vs. Bayleigh Peach Kings
A classic 7 game series goes to triple overtime in Game 7 as the Lakers come back from a 3-2 series deficit to win it in 7 over the very game Peach Kings. The Lakers return to the Eastern Conference Finals are are looking to make up for their 5 game loss in 2006.

Cayuga Saints vs. South Beach Seminoles
The Saints continue their dominance, looking to become an unstoppable dynasty by taking out the Seminoles in 6 games. A very erratic series with no team really gaining any kind of momentum until Game 5 when the Saints finally took control of the series. The Seminoles management were not pleased getting shut out back to back to close the series and significant changes could be coming in the off-season.

Re: Yorkland Hockey League

2007 Western Conference Finals
Bentley Stars vs. Brooklynn Blackhawks

The rivals meet in the playoffs with a Pacino Cup berth on the line. After falling to the Generals a year prior, the Stars were out to prove that they were back. After going down 1-0 in the series, they would double up Brooklynn to tie the series. After splitting the next 2 and the momentum all on the line, the Stars gutted out an impressive 2-1 win in Game 5 and followed it up with an 8-6 win in Game 6 to advance to the finals for the first time 1996 which is also their last Cup win.

2007 Eastern Conference Finals
Cayuga Saints vs. Kelly City Lakers

Cayuga and Kelly run it back, but with a much different result. After being dismantled in 5 last year, the Lakers management promised to improve the team enough to push through the finals, and did they ever. The Lakers sweep the Saints in stunning fashion, winning two separate 1 goal games and head to the finals for the second time in 5 years.

2007 Pacino Cup Finals
Bentley Stars vs. Kelly City Lakers

The Lakers put the finishing touches on their revenge tour, taking down the perennial contenders in Bentley to win their 2nd Pacino Cup in franchise history. After falling in double overtime in Game 2, it felt as though Bentley had taken control of the momentum, but the Lakers stormed back in Game 3 with a dominant win and then survived a double overtime game to take Game 4.

During the trophy presentation, it was revealed that a second level was added to the cup and the announcement was made that all players who have won the cup are getting their names engraved onto the cup. The Lakers are the first team to hoist the enlarged cup.

Re: Yorkland Hockey League

2008 Pre-Season
With all but 1 team in the league thriving after moving away from government control, the owners voted unanimously to expand the league, and to make it significant. In order to grow the game across the country, the league introduced 8 new teams to the league, 4 in the East and 4 in the West, making the league a 24 team league. The new teams were introduced at the league expansion press conference.

Western Conference
Broadlands Raptors - Playing out of the Broadlands Civid Centre, the Raptors were named through a fan vote contest. Broadlands is most well known in the country for being home to the largest dinosaur ever found. The Raptor is on display in a local museum and the logo is cartoon version of the skeleton found. Broadlands enters the new Central Division.

New Coast Seawolves - Playing out of the NCBC Arena, the Seawolves are playing in the most northern city in Yorkland, on the border of the UPA. The coast is well known for it's wolves which patrol the border of the coast and hunt on fish that swim along the coast line. They also enter the Central Division.

Port Burnaby Patriots - Playing out of the Yorkland National Arena, Port Burnaby has grown into the national sports hub in the country as they completely went all in on the sports industry. Home to massive manufactures and 2 major universities, they have become the heartbeat of the country. The Patriots enter the league in the West Division.

Steiner Stetsons - Playing out of the Stampede Grounds, Steiner is home to cowboys and cowgirls. Proudly wearing their cowboy hats, their team is named after the famous Stetson cowboy hat. The Stetsons enter the league in the West Division.

Eastern Conference
Odessa Spiders - Playing out of the Odessa Auditorium (nicknamed "The Web") they enter the league in the Metro Division. Odessa joins Cayuga in the state of Kirkwall and it will be difficult for them to pry fans away from one of the powerhouse teams in the league.

Parkwoods Power - Speaking of having a hard time stealing fans, welcome to the Parkwoods Power. Home to the biggest electric company in Yorkland, the Power will play their games out of the Fenside Centre. Parkwoods is right in the middle of Mount Faith and Lake Hope, two teams with strong fanbases. Joining the Metro Division, they have 2 immediate natural rivalries.

Font Hill Chill - Entering the East Division, the Chill will be playing out of the Prevention Centre right on the Southern Ocean coast line. With Central Valley just down the coast line, the South East Rivalry should spark immediately. The Chill are named after the massive ice mounds that form during the winter months on the coast line, often running up onto the land.

Twin City Speed - Playing out of a new building at the Twin City Speedway, the Speed enter the East Division. Home to the national speedway and yearly stock car race, the Speed take on the name of what the city is most known for. Twin City and Walker City are at most an hours drive away from each other and thus the league is hoping for another rivalry to be born, much like Brooklynn and Bentley.

Re: Yorkland Hockey League

2008 Regular Season

The new look league kicked off with the Kelly City Lakers hoisting their latest banner to the rafters of the Quest Centre.

In the Western Conference, the Brooklynn Blackhawks rolled to the Prime Ministers Trophy with 146 points. The Anchor City Sharks rebounded back into playoff form, finishing second in the Central Division and putting the Bentley Stars playoff streak in serious jeopardy.

In the West Division, the Lakers took top spot with the Fort Theory Generals and shockingly the Crystal Beach Bullets finishing 2nd and 3rd. The Generals and Bullets couldn't gather enough steam down the stretch however, missing the playoffs by 6 points as the Stars cross over into the playoffs as a wild card.

In the Eastern Conference, Cayuga remained the class, rolling to a division title while the Bayleigh Peach Kings finished 2nd place. In the Metro Division, the South Beach Seminoles took first place with the Lakers finishing second, looking to go back to back.

The playoffs will open with Dawn Mills hosting Bentley and Brooklynn hosting Anchor City,  while South Beach takes on Bayleigh and in one of the most anticipated playoff matches in years, the Cayuga Saints host the Kelly City Lakers in a series that has potential to be an instant clasic.
