Re: North American Association of Football - NAAF

It saddens me to see that Montreal is struggling this year, and I hope they can get back to winning very soon. On the other hand, I like seeing Buffalo demonstrating why they are the defending champs. It is also great to see "WWII" getting his first DPOW.

REMATCH! Go Tigers. Also gotta say it would be cool to see the Indiana Victors finally have some success.

Re: North American Association of Football - NAAF

1965 Week 7

Long Island Raiders - 24, Pittsburgh Blacksmiths - 10 - Long Island Stadium - August 5, 1965 - 7 PM ET - TNF - Weather: Clear
1st Q
7-0 LI - PTD QB Stanley Troyer -> WR Darryl Duke
7-3 PIT - FG K Al Highlander
2nd Q
14-3 LI - PTD QB Stanley Troyer -> WR Troy York
3rd Q
14-10 PIT - RTD RB Stavros Black
17-10 LI - FG K Henderson Schumacher
4th Q
24-10 LI - RTD RB Dareion Fields

The Raiders got their second straight win on the back of their usually suffocating defence, but as well as a 2 touchdown performance from QB Stanley Troyer.
Pittsburgh showed some life early in the second half but they were quickly discouraged with back-to-back interceptions following their only touchdown.
DB Lauri Hayha and DB Rutherford Winters had the two interceptions for the Raiders.

Louisville Thunder - 20, Toronto Steelheads - 13 - OT - Thunder Stadium - August 6, 1965 - 7 PM ET - FNF - Weather: Partly Cloudy
1st Q
0-3 TOR - FG K Bob Randall
2nd Q
7-3 LOU - PTD QB Leonidas Dumont -> WR Piers Key
3rd Q
7-10 TOR - PTD QB Todd Baker -> WR Edmund Landry
4th Q
10-10 LOU - FG K Frank Hughes
10-13 TOR - FG K Bob Randall
13-13 LOU - FG K Frank Hughes
OT
20-13 LOU - RTD RB Greg Dix

The Thunder would end their 3-game slide with a win at home against the Steelheads in overtime.
RB Greg Dix, who was in for RB Rodney Clark, would be the hero, breaking through for the game-winning score in the extra frame.
The Thunder defence looked stronger in the win as well being able to stall out a solid Steelheads’ offence in overtime on a big interception from S Johnny Berger to seal the win.
Toronto felt that they were in control of the game overall in the second half, but they could not pull away from the Thunder, and a couple of mistakes from the team as a whole would only help the Thunder.

Providence Gold Stars - 21, Indiana Victors - 28 - New Providence Stadium - August 7, 1965 - 3 PM ET - Weather: Cloudy
1st Q
7-0 PRO - PTD QB Connor O’Rourke -> WR Cedric Peterson
10-0 PRO - FG K Maurice Lafayette
10-3 IND - FG K Ross Poindexter
2nd Q
10-4 IND - Single K Ross Poindexter
10-11 IND - RTD RB Cody Barnes
3rd Q
13-11 PRO - FG K Maurice Lafayette
13-18 IND - PTD QB Lyle Painter -> WR Ed Edwards
4th Q
19-18 PRO - PTD QB Connor O’Rourke -> TE Micheal Bowman III
21-18 PRO - 2PT QB Connor O’Rourke -> WR Cedric Peterson
21-21 IND - FG K Ross Poindexter
21-28 IND - PTD QB Lyle Painter -> WR Orlando Barrack

The Gold Stars finally showed a bit of promise in a 21-28 loss to the Victors.
The offence was able to keep the team in the game until the end, some might have thought the team may finally get their first win of the season, however, the QB Lyle Painter has been playing his best football and was able to pull Indiana back to win their 5th game of the season.
Indiana now has just their second 3-game win streak in the team’s history with their last one coming at the end of the 1962 season.

Halifax Mariners - 16, Montreal Rouge - 31 - Atlantic Stadium - August 7, 1965 - 7 PM ET - Weather: Partly Cloudy
1st Q
3-0 HFX - FG K Elvis Franklin
3-7 MTL - RTD RB Scott Mallard-White
2nd Q
3-14 MTL - PTD QB Gene Bishop -> WR Yahui Sun
6-14 HFX - FG K Elvis Franklin
6-21 MTL - PTD QB Gene Bishop -> WR Taylor Karis
3rd Q
13-21 HFX - PTD QB Michael Benedict -> WR Shane Steadman
13-28 MTL - PTD QB Gene Bishop -> WR Derek Cross
4th Q
16-28 HFX - FG K Elvis Franklin
16-31 MTL - FG K Arthur Kettinger

The Rouge finally got a win on the road taking down the Mariners in Halifax.
QB Gene Bishop had a strong game once again throwing 3 more passing touchdowns to bring his total to 17 on the season.
The Rouge WR core has been a pain in the back of many teams this season as they continue to roll on as the league’s highest-scoring offence.
The Mariners tried to stay in the game, but QB Michael Benedict struggled down the stretch with a pair of interceptions thrown to DB Quentin Xavier and S Garet deVale.
There are some concerns with the Mariners now that they have dropped their last 3 games, some may want to potentially see a change be made at QB if Benedict can’t pick things up.

Ottawa Royals - 25, Boston Independents - 32 - Royals Stadium at Brewer Park - August 8, 1965 - 1 PM ET - Weather: Mostly Cloudy
1st Q
0-7 BOS - PTD QB Nathaniel Braddock -> WR Alexei Dubois
7-7 OTT - PTD QB Lee Rogers -> TE Ryan Hatcher
2nd Q
7-14 BOS - PTD QB Nathaniel Braddock -> TE Tobias Lindholm
10-14 OTT - FG K Ira Foster
10-17 BOS - FG K Johnnie Berg
3rd Q
13-17 OTT - FG K Ira Foster
16-17 OTT - FG K Ira Foster
4th Q
16-24 BOS - RTD RB Kendall Morgan
19-24 OTT - FG K Ira Foster
25-24 OTT - PTD QB Lee Rogers -> WR Marshall Leonard
25-30 BOS - PTD QB Nathaniel Braddock -> WR Chester Bennett
25-32 BOS - 2PT QB Nathaniel Braddock -> WR Evan Clanton

An eventful 4th quarter would end with QB Nathaniel Braddock leading the Independents down the field on another game-winning drive to clinch their 5th win of the season and keep their lead of the East Division.
Braddock continued to look good with another 3 touchdowns on the day picking a part the Royals’ secondary.
Ottawa was still able to make a late push to stay in the game, even taking the lead on a WR Marshall Leonard touchdown in the 4th.

London Tigers - 30, Buffalo Blue Wings - 26 - Western Fair Stadium - August 8, 1965 - 4 PM ET - Weather: Partly Cloudy
1st Q
3-0 LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth
3-7 BUF - RTD RB Jimmy Golden
3-8 BUF - Single K Ryan Perch
2nd Q
6-8 LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth
9-8 LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth
9-15 BUF - RTD RB Jimmy Golden
3rd Q
16-15 LDN - PTD QB Riley Kiernan -> WR Max Sutton
16-18 BUF - FG K Ryan Perch
4th Q
23-18 LDN - PTD QB Riley Kiernan -> WR Russell Wilcox
23-24 BUF - PTD QB Charles Lemieux -> WR Julius Drake
23-26 BUF - 2PT RB Jimmy Golden
30-26 LDN - PTD QB Riley Kiernan -> WR Max Sutton

The Tigers got their revenge in the Buffalo-London rematch following a back and forth second half.
QB Riley Kiernan led an excellent game-winning drive while facing the pressure from the Blue Wings’ powerful D-line, to clinch the game on a touchdown to WR Max Sutton.
Buffalo almost had the win, with Lemieux throwing his touchdown pass with just over 2 minutes to go, but that ended up being too much time for Kiernan and the Tigers.

I know the last two teams we've faced haven't exactly been top tier, but it's always nice to see the Raiders doing well!

Re: North American Association of Football - NAAF

1965 Week 8

Indiana Victors - 35, Ottawa Royals - 10 - Victory Stadium - August 12, 1965 - 7 PM ET - TNF - Weather: Partly Cloudy
1st Q
7-0 IND - PTD QB Lyle Painter -> WR Orlando Barrack
7-3 OTT - FG K Ira Foster
2nd Q
14-3 IND - RTD RB Cody Barnes
3rd Q
21-3 IND - RTD RB Cody Barnes
21-10 OTT - RTD RB Corbyn Knight
28-10 IND - PTD QB Lyle Painter -> WR Ed Edwards
4th Q
35-10 IND - PTD QB Lyle Painter -> TE Emmanual Hines

The Victors kept their hot streak rolling with not only the team’s longest win streak now at 4 while also achieving 6 wins in a season for the first time in franchise history.
QB Lyle Painter continued his excellence this season with 3 more passing touchdowns to his name, while QB Lee Rogers struggled for the Royals throwing 3 interceptions in the loss.
QB Landon Ross did see the field more in the second half to give the young gun some snaps for the Royals.
DB Kelly Kirkland also had a huge game with one of the interceptions and a forced fumble at one point as well.

Buffalo Blue Wings - 20, Providence Gold Stars - 23 - Milton Charles Stadium - August 13, 1965 - 7 PM ET - FNF - Weather: Partly Cloudy
1st Q
0-7 PRO - PTD QB Connor O’Rourke -> WR Cedric Peterson
0-14 PRO - PTD QB Connor O’Rourke -> WR Cedric Peterson
2nd Q
3-14 BUF - FG K Ryan Perch
3-17 PRO - FG K Maurice Lafayette
10-17 BUF - RTD RB Jimmy Golden
3rd Q
17-17 BUF - PTD QB Charles Lemieux -> WR Zachariah Pembroke
20-17 BUF - FG K Ryan Perch
4th Q
20-20 PRO - FG K Maurice Lafayette
20-23 PRO - FG K Maurice Lafayette

The Gold Stars caught the Blue Wings napping in the first quarter with a quick 0-14 lead on the back of two Cedric Peterson touchdowns.
Buffalo was able to recover and even take a 20-17 lead into the final quarter of the game.
Providence managed to tie the game up midway through the final frame which forced Buffalo to get more aggressive offensively again.
The aggressiveness did not pay off as DB Neville Falkner would come up with a huge interception in the 4th to stop the Blue Wings and set up Lafayette for the game-winning field goal.
Providence finally ended their winless season with the shocking win over the Blue Wings who now fall behind in the West Division race.

Pittsburgh Blacksmiths - 13, Halifax Mariners - 30 - Riverfront Stadium of Pittsburgh - August 14, 1965 - 3 PM ET - Weather: Partly Cloudy
1st Q
0-7 HFX - PTD QB Michael Benedict -> WR Joshua Lafleur
3-7 PIT - FG K Al Highlander
3-10 HFX - FG K Elvis Franklin
2nd Q
3-13 HFX - FG K Elvis Franklin
3-20 HFX - RTD RB Ronald O’Sullivan
3rd Q
6-20 PIT - FG K Al Highlander
4th Q
13-20 PIT - RTD RB Stavros Black
13-27 HFX - PTD QB Michael Benedict -> WR Joshua Lafleur
13-30 HFX - FG K Elvis Franklin

The battle between the two former teammates of QB Buck Murphy and QB Michael Benedict had the younger Benedict coming out on top in a fairly dominant win.
The Mariners controlled the game throughout and even when the Blacksmiths pulled themselves back into the game, they quickly found their offence again with another touchdown.
WR Joshua Lafleur had a strong game after having quite a quiet season so far.
DL Wayne Baxton continued his dominance on the line with 3 sacks in the win, while rookie DB Aquilio Ruiz grabbed another interception on the season.

Long Island Raiders - 34, Toronto Steelheads - 6 - Long Island Stadium - August 14, 1965 - 7 PM ET - SNF - Weather: Cloudy
1st Q
7-0 LI - RTD RB Dareion Fields
14-0 LI - PTD QB Stanley Troyer -> WR Larry Mossholder
2nd Q
14-3 TOR - FG K Bob Randall
17-3 LI - FG K Henderson Schumacher
3rd Q
24-3 LI - PTD QB Stanley Troyer -> WR Casey Coleman
24-6 TOR - FG K Bob Randall
4th Q
27-6 LI - FG K Henderson Schumacher
34-6 LI - DTD INT DB Alexander Bradley

The Raiders’ defence continued to smother their opponent’s offence in an easy 34-6 win over the Steelheads.
Dareion Fields pretty much won the game from the start, exploding for a 34-yard touchdown run on their opening drive.
Toronto looked to bounce back, but QB Todd Baker was stripped by DL Pionk Bjorkkstrand on the ensuing drive which ultimately crushed the Steelheads, with the Raiders’ second touchdown of the game coming shortly after.
The 3-straight at home certainly helped give the Raiders momentum, as their defence stalled other teams out to only 21 points in 3 games (to which they scored 78). They remain the only team to not allow 100 total points yet this season.

Boston Independents - 13, Louisville Thunder - 16 - Richardson Stadium - August 15, 1965 - 1 PM ET - Weather: Clear
1st Q
3-0 BOS - FG K Johnnie Berg
2nd Q
3-7 LOU - RTD RB Greg Dix
6-7 BOS - FG K Johnnie Berg
3rd Q
6-10 LOU - FG K Frank Hughes
4th Q
13-10 BOS - PTD QB Nathaniel Braddock -> WR Alexei Dubois
13-13 LOU - FG K Frank Hughes
13-16 LOU - FG K Frank Hughes

The Thunder were able to feed off of the momentum of their overtime win over the Steelheads to grab another upset win over the Independents.
K Frank Hughes was clutch for the Thunder with 3 field goals on the day with RB Greg Dix having another solid day while RB Rodney Clark recovers from his injury.
Boston’s offence was not quite as dominant as it has been and was stalled out from a great performance from the Thunder secondary.

Montreal Rouge - 23, London Tigers - 26 - Mount Royal Stadium - August 15, 1965 - 4 PM ET - Weather: Partly Cloudy
1st Q
0-3 LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth
3-3 MTL - FG K Arthur Kettinger
3-6 LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth
2nd Q
6-6 MTL - FG K Arthur Kettinger
13-6 MTL - RTD RB Scott Mallard-White
13-9 LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth
3rd Q
13-16 LDN - RTD RB Austin Andrews
20-16 MTL - PTD QB Gene Bishop -> WR Derek Cross
4th Q
20-23 LDN - PTD QB Riley Kiernan -> WR Max Sutton
23-23 MTL - FG K Arthur Kettinger
23-26 LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth

A classic Canadian battle came down to the kickers, and ultimately it was Nimrod who won out the battle and gave the Tigers their 5th win of the season after kicking 4 field goals.
London’s win puts them right in the race in the West once again fighting with the top 4.
Montreal’s tendency to fall short this season continues as they lose by 5 or less for the 4th time this season.
There are a lot of concerns about both the offence leaving too much time, but also the defence not being able to shut down opponents at the end of games.
