In the NAAF, are the goal posts still on the goal line, or have they been moved to the back of the end zones?

Also, has the Y-shaped goal post been invented yet, or are teams still using the H-shaped posts?

Well considering the NFL didn't move the goal-posts to the back of the endzone till 1974, no. And even still with the nature of hybrid rules, with 15-yard endzones and the single. I don't think I will ever have the goalposts moved back.

And whatever the NFL used in this time (which appears to be more close to the H-shape.

1964 Week 8

Long Island Raiders - 27, Halifax Mariners - 3 - Long Island Stadium - July 31, 1964 - 7 PM ET - FNF - Weather: Clear - TV: Frank Dijon and Kevin Holcombs

17-3 LI - RTD RB Dareion Fields
3rd Q
24-3 LI - RTD RB Dareion Fields
4th Q
27-3 LI - FG K Henderson Schumacher

The Raiders came out with their 5th straight win in their second over the Mariners.
RB Dareion Fields looked to keep pace with Jimmy Golden in the rushing touchdown race with 3 touchdowns in the game.
The Raider defence came up big with several turnovers from DB Alexander Bradley, LB Deon Wiggins, and DB Rutherford Winters.
Benedict struggled a lot in the game and was replaced by Buck Murphy in the 4th quarter, who struggled just as much.

Louisville Thunder - 21, Indiana Victors - 17 - Thunder Stadium - August 1, 1964 - 1 PM ET - Weather: Partly Cloudy - TV: Clint Georgetown and Jamar Swinton
1st Q
7-0 LOU - PTD QB Leonidas Dumont -> WR Piers Key

3rd Q
14-14 LOU - RTD RB Rodney Clark
14-17 IND - FG K Ross Poindexter
4th Q
21-17 LOU - PTD QB Leonidas Dumont -> WR Piers Key

The Thunder were able to put an end to their 3-game skid with a win over their rivals.
Indiana got off to a strong start, but the offence was stifled in the second half by the Thunder's defence.
DL Theo Conte and LB Scotty Williams had a forced fumble each for the Thunder, while DL Fred Webster was able to get one back.
QB Lyle Painter was still able to make his case that he is still a viable QB in the NAAF despite another loss.

Providence Gold Stars - 10, Boston Independents - 23 - New Providence Stadium - August 1, 1964 - 5 PM ET - Weather: Cloudy - TV: Bob Walton and Steven Kelly
1st Q

3-20 BOS - PTD QB Nathaniel Braddock -> WR Ellis Lindholm
4th Q
3-23 BOS - FG K Johnnie Berg
10-23 PRO - PTD QB Connor O’Rourke -> WR Cedric Peterson

The Independents seemed to have the Gold Stars’ number with another dominant win over their famed rivals.
They dominated the game until Providence’s late touchdown in the final quarter, their defence was all over the Gold Stars.
The star was LB Konrad Aust who had a forced fumble and interception in the game while leading in tackles; teammate Brent Harper also had a forced fumble.

Montreal Rouge - 21, Ottawa Royals - 24 - Mount Royal Stadium - August 2, 1964 - 1 PM ET - Weather: Cloudy/Light Rain - TV: FR Cyril Etienne and Quinton Jacques, EN George Leblanc and Maurice St.Louise

4th Q
19-21 MTL - PTD QB Gene Bishop -> WR Derek Cross
21-21 MTL - 2PT RB Scott Mallard-White
21-24 OTT - FG K Ira Foster

The Royals managed to get revenge on the Rouge in their second battle of the season.
Jean Matieau led the Royals' offence with a fantastic drive with only a minute to go in the first half and then another strong one to open the following half.
The Rouge were able to be competitive, but they just seemed a little off in the game making a few more mistakes than normal.
QB Gene Bishop would fumble the ball while getting tackled by DL Olaf Viktorsson, which gave the veteran a forced fumble.

Buffalo Blue Wings - 21, London Tigers - 13 - Milton Charles Stadium - August 2, 1964 - 5 PM ET - Weather: Cloudy - TV: Jerry Goldbridge and Jackie Calhoon
1st Q
7-0 BUF - RTD RB Jimmy Golden

14-6 LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth
4th Q
21-6 BUF - PTD QB Charles Lemieux -> TE Tanner Tint
21-13 LDN - PTD QB Riley Kiernan -> WR Jack Duncan

Buffalo kept up their hot streak with a big win at home over their rival Tigers.
RB Jimmy Golden had yet another strong performance with 2 touchdowns and 100 yards.
London was struggling throughout the game, with only a late touchdown, which doesn’t look good for the team that will have their next two games against the red-hot Blue Wings.
DL Tournel Guay and LB Sam Wynn had forced fumbles on the day with S Wesley Jones grabbing a pick.

I don't know if this has been asked before, but who has the TV rights to the NAAF in the US and Canada?

Technically CBC and CBS would, but I'm likely going to do something different for myself sooner or later, honestly doesn't really matter to me.

I know it's only the Mariners, but crushing a team is always nice!  Hopefully the Raiders can keep it up!   The Golden/Fields TD race is proving a lot of fun to keep up on!

Re: North American Association of Football - NAAF

1964 Week 9

TRADE ALERT
The pressure has been turned up for GM Everett Henderson of the Victors. His job could be on the line this offseason after another disappointing start. While it might be the offseason where he has to prove himself, he decided to get started a little early. Recently, the teams were told what the expansion rules were going to be for the Pittsburgh expansion draft, and of course, there were plenty of trade rumours that arose as teams might want to move players that they may not be able to or want to protect. One of those players for the Victors was WR Alexei Dubois. The former 1st Overall Pick has not been the best receiver in the last season or two, sliding down to the 3rd WR spot on the depth chart. The Victors are more likely to protect WR Ed Edwards and WR Silas Peyton instead so they began shopping Dubois.

After many discussions over the past few weeks, their bye week would be the big moment. Over the time off, Henderson would have serious talks with GM Earnest Bryan of the Independents. They would finally come to an agreement that would send Dubois to Boston in exchange for WR Orlando Barrack and a 1965 3rd Rounder. Barrack hasn’t been what Boston was hoping for and will need a lot more time to develop so they would decide to go out and get a weapon that was ready to go now in Dubois who will be ready to fill the shoes of WR Chester Bennett who is likely to retire at the end of the season.

The only issue for Boston was Dubois’ $19,000 cap hit which put them over the salary cap. Even with Indy retaining a portion ($7,500) they were still way over the cap. So they would send WR Paul Franklin, who was getting paid $16,000 to be the 4th string WR to the Mariners for veteran WR Ronald Vernon (this marks the 3rd time he has been traded, and the second time being traded to Boston). Franklin will be hoping to prove his worth in Halifax, likely being able to get some starting reps down the stretch.

Halifax Mariners - 17, Toronto Steelheads - 24 - Atlantic Stadium - August 7, 1964 - 7 PM ET - FNF - Weather: - TV: Bob Litchfield and Eric O’Brian
1st Q
3-0 HFX - FG K Elvis Franklin

4th Q
17-14 HFX - RTD RB Stavros Black
17-17 TOR - FG K Bob Randall
17-24 TOR - PTD QB Christian Stewart -> WR Edmund Landry

The Mariners and Steelheads had a back-and-forth battle in Halifax’s only non-divisional match-up of the season.
Michael Benedict was back as the starter and played alright giving the Mariners a lead in the 4th.
The Steelheads would be on the back foot with QB Todd Baker leaving the game with an injury, leading to QB Christian Stewart leading the team from behind in the second half.
S Jay Shepard had a pick for the Mariners, while Toronto would have a pair of forced fumbles from LB Daniel Carpenter and S Daniel Perry.

Ottawa Royals - 17, Providence Gold Stars - 22 - Royals Stadium at Brewer Park - August 8, 1964 - 3 PM ET - Weather: - TV: George Leblanc and Kevin Holcombs

4th Q
17-16 OTT - PTD QB Jean Matieau -> WR Benedict Spencer
17-22 PRO - PTD QB Connor O’Rourke -> WR Ben Roland

The Gold Stars got back in the win column against the Royals to jump them in the standings.
It was a late Ben Roland touchdown that made the difference on a bit of a dreary day in Ottawa.
DB Neville Falkner was back to making plays on the ball with his 6th interception of the season, setting up the RB Rashed Smith touchdown in the second.

Louisville Thunder - 20, Montreal Rouge - 10 - Thunder Stadium - August 8, 1964 - 7 PM ET - Weather: - TV: Clint Georgetown and Jamar Swinton

Louisville’s defence put on a great performance against the Rouge to get the team’s second straight win.
Rodney Clark led the way on the ground with a pair of touchdowns, while the defence managed to take the ball away from the Rouge 3 times.
LB George Yokoi and DL Bjorn Sigmarsson had forced fumbles, while S Johnny Berger had a pick.
Montreal just could not get the offence going until the final quarter when it was far too late.

London Tigers - 18, Buffalo Blue Wings - 14 - Western Fair Stadium - August 9, 1964 - 2 PM ET - Weather: - TV: Jerry Goldbridge and Jackie Calhoon

The Tigers got their revenge over the Blue Wings behind the reliable leg of K Nimrod Handsworth.
The offence was struggling a bit against the Blue Wings’ defence, but they managed to make up for it through defence and Nimrod.
LB Dallas Dillard had a strong outing with a forced fumble and 9 Tackles while DB Ricardo Salvador grabbed a pick.
Buffalo’s defence had their own success with DL Lonnie Vincent grabbing a sack and a fumble, and DB Dean Hawkins with a pick.

Boston Independents - 34, Montreal Rouge - 34 - OT - Richardson Stadium - August 14, 1964 - 7 PM ET - FNF - Weather: Clear - TV: EN Benjamin O’Donnell and William Arland, FR Cyril Etienne and Quinton Jacques

27-27 MTL - FG K Arthur Kettinger
OT
27-34 MTL - PTD QB Gene Bishop -> WR Taylor Karis
34-34 BOS - PTD QB Nathaniel Braddock -> WR Alexei Dubois

The Rouge and Independents would duke it out for a close shootout that would end with the league’s first regular-season overtime.
In the extra frame, both teams would have a strong drive and score a touchdown, however, no one would get anything else resulting in still a tie at the end of the day.
WR Taylor Karis finally had a strong game after being a lot quieter in the endzone compared to last season.
WR Alexei Dubois also showed up for his new team scoring a touchdown to keep the Independents in the game.

Toronto Steelheads - 20, Louisville Thunder - 31 - Anderson Stadium - August 15, 1964 - 3 PM ET - Weather: Clear - TV: Bob Litchfield and Eric O’Brian
1st Q

20-24 TOR - RTD RB Tommy Allen
4th Q
20-31 LOU - PTD QB Leonidas Dumont -> WR Piers Key

*Toronto wore Black Alternate Jerseys*
The Thunder got their revenge on the Steelheads who upset them earlier in the season to claim their 3rd straight win to get back to above .500.
S Johnny Berger had a strong game with a pick-6 and 6 Tackles from the back end.
QB Christian Stewart did what he could for the Todd Baker-less Steelheads, getting off to a strong start with a touchdown out of the gate, but struggled against the good Thunder defence.

Indiana Victors - 30, Buffalo Blue Wings - 17 - Victory Stadium - August 15, 1964 - 7 PM ET - SNF - Weather: Partly Cloudy - TV: Harold Mansfield and Jim Ernest
1st Q
0-3 BUF - FG K Ryan Perch

17-17 BUF - PTD QB Charles Lemieux -> WR Zachariah Pembroke
4th Q
23-17 IND - PTD QB Lyle Painter -> WR Ed Edwards
30-17 IND - RTD RB Cody Barnes

The Victors came away with a huge upset over the Blue Wings who were without RB Jimmy Golden in the second half due to a minor injury.
QB Lyle Painter had a great game with a pair of touchdowns in the win and no turnovers.
The Blue Wings tried their best to stay in the game, but their offence stumbled despite having both QB Charles Lemieux and his brother RB Théodore Lemieux working together.
DL William Sanderson had another strong game as well with a forced fumble and a sack.

Providence Gold Stars - 23, Long Island Raiders - 20 - OT - New Providence Stadium - August 16, 1964 - 2 PM ET - Weather: Cloudy - TV: Bob Walton and Steven Kelly
1st Q

4th Q
13-20 PRO - PTD QB Connor O’Rourke -> WR Owen Paisley
20-20 PRO - PTD QB Connor O’Rourke -> WR Cedric Peterson
OT
23-20 PRO - FG K Maurice Lafayette

A stellar 4th quarter comeback from the Gold Stars led to the second overtime matchup of the week, however, this time a winner would be decided with K Maurice Lafayette being the only one to score in the final frame, completing the comeback.
DL Craig White was a vital piece in the comeback for the Gold Stars with a fumble that allowed the Gold Stars to tie the game up.
The Raiders’ 5-game win streak comes to an end with the shocking loss as well as it pulls the field right up to basically create a fresh start for all of the competitive teams heading into the final 4 weeks of the season.

Re: North American Association of Football - NAAF

1964 Trade Deadline

Sunday, August 16, 1964 - 2:03 PM ET
The deadline week would start with a trade that had been in the works for a couple of weeks which saw Victors’ backup QB Mike Key and a 1965 5th Round Pick to the Rouge for a 1965 3rd Round Pick and a 1967 Conditional 5th Round Pick. The conditional pick will only go to Indiana if Key remains on the Rouge next season.

Key was likely not going to be protected by the Victors and after a pretty rough showing in his lone start this season, they were more than willing to part ways. As for the Rouge, they finally have a strong backup for Gene Bishop, just in case, the QB suffers an injury down the stretch.

Monday, August 17, 1964 - 1:25 PM ET
The Independents were looking for a slight upgrade on their OL. They felt they got the best value with a trade that brought over OL Steven Michaels from the Halifax Mariners in exchange for a 1966 4th Round Pick and OL Moses Griffin to balance the rosters.

Monday, August 17, 1964 - 5:49 PM ET
The Rouge would make a second trade with the Victors after learning LB Sebastian Andrews III would likely miss the team’s next game. They would acquire veteran LB Wilson Rockwood Barnes from the Victors in exchange for Sebastian Andrews III and a 1966 5th Round Pick.
The Victors are fine taking on the injured LB if it means grabbing a draft pick in the deal.

Tuesday, August 18, 1964 - 9:41 AM ET
Early on deadline day, the Blue Wings would look to add a piece to fill in for injured DB Ezra Power. They would go to Indiana to grab their #2 DB, Malik Davenport, and 24-year-old LB Tyrone Butler in exchange for 25-year-old LB Linus Kinjerski, DB Michael Cornell III, and a 1965 4th Round Pick.

The Blue Wings will be glad to have Davenport on the back end and potentially a younger piece for the LB core. As for the Victors, they do get a better LB in Kinjerski and more draft capital. The only question might be if the team will protect Kinjerski come the expansion draft which they will have to decide based on his play in the final few games of the season.

Tuesday, August 18, 1964 - 12:45 PM ET
The next trade would end up seeing DB Dennis Kirchner get sent back to Providence for a 1966 Conditional 4th Round Pick and veteran DB Petr Westerburg. The condition on the pick would see it upgraded to a 3rd round pick if the Gold Stars get back to the McCallister Cup this season.

Kirchner will be a decent replacement for the injured DB Cameron Taylor as he is familiar with the team’s system after playing there for 3 seasons from 1960-1962.

Tuesday, August 18, 1964 - 4:30 PM ET
Following the acquisition of LB Linus Kinjerski, the Victors were looking to now flip LB Sebastian Andrews III who they got for LB Wilson Rockwood-Barnes. They would find a suitor in the Gold Stars and would send LB Sebastian Andrews III, WR Barnaby Underwood-Zimmerman, and Boston’s 3rd Round Pick from 1965 in exchange for Providence’s 2nd Round Pick, OL Eustace Cloudwell, and LB Bastiano Cerutti.

The Gold Stars wanted some help in the LB core and grabbed Sebastian Andrews III (even though he will still miss a game yet). He should help the team in the push for the playoffs. For Indy, they get more draft capital and a young OL who was just drafted this past year.

Tuesday, August 18, 1964 - 5:34 PM ET
One last trade was made just before the deadline that saw the Raiders get 32-year-old OL Charlie Bennett from the Royals for a 2nd Round Pick in 1965 and 34-year-old OL Kyle Hurst.

Bennett will be missed in Ottawa, but the veteran will be an important piece for the Raiders and the Royals certainly could use some more youth as they go through their rebuild.
