Worcester got back in the win column with a strong offensive performance against Boston
Boston’s offence had a strong start but fizzled out by the final quarter.
After Worcester’s final touchdown, backup QB Bart Swayze got a couple of drives where he would hit Lindholm for a big touchdown.
Worcester’s defence was a star with LB Scotty Williams forcing a fumble and DB Alexander Bradley coming down with another pick.

Montreal played their best game of the season to secure their second win of the season.
QB Stanislav Ovechkin played really well not throwing an interception and got Montreal in a position to score again and again.
The defence was just as big with Quentin Xavier coming down with a pick-6 in the win.

Indiana came to play in the second with a pair of touchdowns, but it was DB Lester Murphy who came up with a huge pick to set up the late touchdown to give them the late lead.
Long Island was able to recover with QB Lyle Painter leading the offence back the other way to claim victory at the end of the game.

The Royals come alive in a huge win over the division-leading Gold Stars.
QB Jean Matieau had 3 touchdown passes and was able to keep the ball in Ottawa’s hands throughout the game with 0 turnovers.
Providence’s defence could not seem to solve the Royals in this game, but their offence was in the fight even pulling within 3 before Matieau put them to bed on a quick counter score.  

Ontario Tigers - 17, Buffalo Blue Wings - 20 - Kitchener-Waterloo City Field - August 11, 1957 - 5 PM ET

After 4 touchdowns in the first half, the rivals would trade field goals with Buffalo narrowly coming out on top to hold onto top spot in the West Division.
The battle remains close but Ontario showed a few more holes in their game and Buffalo capitalized in this one.
S Frazier Brooks became the leader for the Blue Wings with a pick, a sack, and 5 Tackles.

Buffalo has become a very interesting team shooting up to the top of that division, however they will have one of the toughest schedules down the stretch. While Louisville is a light match up this week, they follow it up with:

1957 Week 9 

Buffalo Makes Pair of Moves to Boost Team for Playoff Run
Heading into the ninth week of the season the Blue Wings sit atop the West Division with a 6-2 record, are one game up on the Long Island Raiders and 3 games up on the 3rd place Tigers. They are looking to take advantage of the position they're in and decided to make a pair of trades acquiring two strong pieces in LB Ben McCray and DL Craig Newman.

LB Ben McCray was taken from Buffalo in the expansion draft by Louisville. The LB ultimately was given an Expansion Tag to remain in Louisville for this season. Louisville felt then it was fitting to try and trade the player and get some value if he didn’t want to return next season. Buffalo would acquire the LB for a 1958 3rd round pick, a 1959 Conditional Pick, and LB Harry Hester to fill the roster. The conditions of the pick are (1) If Buffalo makes the Division Finals, Louisville would get a 4th round pick, (2) if Buffalo makes the McCallister Cup the pick becomes a 3rd rounder.

Following that trade, the Blue Wings would then acquire longtime Independent DL Craig Newman. Buffalo would send a 1958 2nd round pick and DL Lawrence Hudson for DL Craig Newman and a 1958 4th Round Pick in the deal. For Boston, the trade may end their slim playoff hopes, but they are looking ahead with another draft pick to build a younger team. While last year’s attempt to boost the roster didn’t go as planned for the Blue Wings, they have more confidence in the position they are in and are hoping the new additions will keep the team in the fight especially if they suffer any injuries.

Both McCray and Newman will get important roles in positions the team desperately needed to fill, and they hope that they will be the missing piece to get them back to the top of the NAAF.

Both teams suffered some tough injuries in the divisional battle, but the Raiders came out victorious to put them in a position to clinch a playoff spot.
RB Conner Riley came through again with a run-heavy game but had some help from RB Armondo Amaro as well who scored his first career TD.
Indiana continued to struggle as their playoff hopes hanging in the balance.

Boston shocked the division-leading Gold Stars with backup QB Bart Swayze leading the charge.
The Independents went to the backup QB for this game and it paid off with the young QB throwing his second TD of the season to win the game.
Boston’s defence was a big factor again with LB Brent Harper coming up with 2 forced fumbles and 9 tackles. 
LB Marco Price also had a forced fumble to go along with that.

Montreal came out fighting to keep in the hunt for the playoffs, but the Athletics were able to come out on top and take home the win.
​Devonshire and Mallard-White were the dominant forces for each team’s offence as the majority of the plays in the game were runs.
Worcester would be able to sneak away at the end with a field goal before S Shawn Jensen came down with a pick to help add another.

The game had both strong defence and strong offence but it was QB Angelo Medina scrambling into the endzone that made the difference as the clock winded down.

The Tigers fall flat against the Thunder as the team drops their 5th straight game.QB Christian Stewart had a tough day throwing 3 picks in the loss.
DB Jesse Scott got some revenge against his old club with a pick, and S Lester Greer and DB Will Atkinson reeled in the other 2.
QB Ollie Rogers was able to work the Tigers’ secondary which lost DB Ricardo Salvador to injury in the game, to get the Thunder back to scoring range to win the game.
