Re: NFL-PCFL Simulation

1983 NFL Season

Eastern Conference
The Atlantic Division in 1983, was marked by the drafting of quarterback Dan Marino by the Miami Dolphins, who quickly went from 7-7 in 1982, to 11-3 in 1983. Behind them came the 9-5 Washington Redskins, who were unable to overcome the Dolphins. In third place, the Bay State Patriots had a winning season at 8-6, just ahead of the last place, 7-7 Baltimore Colts. With the end of the season, the Colts would relocate to Indianapolis, while remaining in the Atlantic Division. They would remain in their division until the 1995 expansion, when they were placed in the Western Conference Central Division.

In the North Division, the New York Giants, who had surprised their critics by making a NFL Title, came back and won the division for a second time, finishing with a 8-6 record. Just behind the Giants, the Pittsburgh Steelers posted a 7-7 record, one game ahead of the third place Cleveland Browns, at 6-8. In last place Philadelphia Eagles finished at 4-10, the worst record in the Eastern Conference. With the Giants division title, came another appearance in the Eastern Conference Final, where they would face off against the Miami Dolphins.

In the Eastern Conference Final, the Miami Dolphins were hosting the title for the first time since 1979. That title, known forever after as the Mud Bowl, would be met by a beautiful night for football, where the Miami Dolphins opened the game with a five minute touchdown drive. It would be the only touchdown of the first half. At the start of the fourth quarter, the Giants were trailing 14-9, with zero touchdowns. That being said, the Giants offense was driving down the field when Giants QB, Scott Brunner, broke his leg and had to be replaced by Phil Simms. The injury would be career ending, and Scott Brunner would never play again. The drive would end in yet another field goal, making the score 14-12. With the ball, the Dolphins drove down the field and with second left, kicked a field goal, to leave the score at 17-12, with Miami NFL Title bound.

Western Conference
The Central Division was marked by a close title race, between the first three teams. The Green Bay Packers would finish in first, with a 10-4 record. Behind them at 8-6, were the second place Chicago Bears and third place Detroit Lions, both at 8-6. In last place, were the Minnesota Vikings, who ended the season at 6-8. With the Green Bay Packers division title, it was clear that they would host the Western Conference Final.

The South Division was won, as the past two years, by the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons, who had won back to back NFL Titles, had an 8-6 record, one game better than their 7-6-1 season of 1982. Behind them were the New Orleans Saints, at 7-7. In third and fourth place, the Dallas Texans and Houston Oilers finished with the two worst records in the league, with the Texans at 3-11 and the Oilers at 2-12. With the loss of the New Orleans Saints to the Dallas Texans in Week 13 (23-16), the Falcons clinched a playoff berth and would go on to play in the Western Conference Final in Green Bay.

In the Western Conference Final, the Green Bay Packers played the Atlanta Falcons on a frozen field in front of a sell out crowd. The Packer faithful, packed the stadium to the gills, and the crowd noise was substantial. While the atmosphere was icy, the offense wasn't stifled. The Falcons would score two touchdowns on their first two drives, leading 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. However, this would not last long. The Packers shot back and soon the score was 14-10. Going further the Packers score two touchdowns to leave the score 24-14. With the NFL Title on the line, the Falcons scored another touchdown, a deep bomb from veteran Steve Bartkowski. In the end, the Falcons scoring was futile, with Green Bay winning the game 31-24.

1983 NFL Title
In the 1983 NFL Title, the Miami Dolphins hosted the Green Bay Packers in Joe Robbie Stadium. The Packers offense was led by Quarterback Lynn Dickey, who had been on the Packers since the late 1970's. In contrast to the veteran, the Dolphins offense was led by the rookie Dan Marino. As such, the game was a shootout. At first the two were matched, touchdown for touchdown. With the end of the first half, the score was 21-21, all even. When the second half began, the Dolphins kept scoring and the Packers stalled. In the end, the Miami Dolphins would win another NFL Title, 45-21.

1983 PCFL Season
Coming off a Pacific Bowl victory, the Los Angeles Raiders started the year at 1-2, before winning their last nine games and clinching the first seed in the postseason. Just behind them were the crosstown Los Angeles Rams, playing out of Anaheim Stadium, finished 7-5 and would host the PCFL Playoff game. In third was a three way race for the last spot in the playoff. At the end of the season, the San Francisco 49ers, Saint Louis Cardinals and San Diego Chargers all finished the season at 6-6. In sixth place, the Seattle Seahawks posted a 4-8 record, and the last place Denver Broncos finished last in the league with a 3-9 record.

In the PCFL Playoff, the Los Angeles Rams hosted the San Francisco 49ers, and showed the home crowd a shootout. Tied at 23-23 with several minuted left, Vince Ferragamo drove down the field and scored a touchdown to leave the score at 30-23. With this win, it became official that the Pacific Bowl would be an all Los Angeles affair. In Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, all 100,000 seats were filled with fans, screaming for the Raiders or Rams and hoping their team would not only win the Title, but local bragging rights as well. The game began with a safety by the Rams, though the 2 points were compared badly with the Raiders 14 points. In the end, the home team Los Angeles Raiders clinched the victory for the city of Los Angeles, and as the best team in the PCFL.

Re: NFL-PCFL Simulation

1984 NFL Season

Eastern Conference
In the Atlantic Division, much was expected of the defending champion Miami Dolphins. Dan Marino's rookie season had gone basically perfect, with the Dolphins dominating the conference and hosting the title. However the 1984 season would result in a back step for the team, finishing 7-7 and in third in the division. Replacing them as division champion were the Bay State Patriots, who tied the Detroit Lions 24-24 in Foxboro to post a 8-5-1 record, one game ahead the second place Washington Redskins at 8-6. In last, the newly moved Indianapolis Colts went 4-10. With the season ended, the Bay State Patriots were set to travel to Pittsburgh to play the Steelers in the Eastern Conference Final.

In the North Division, the New York Giants, once again under the leadership of Phil Simms, the Giants fell to third place and a 5-9 record. The Pittsburgh Steelers, who at 10-4, were the best in the Eastern Conference and the North, while the rest of the division floundered. The fight for second place was the only competition that year in the division. The Steelers clinched the division title, while the Cleveland Browns, in second, went 6-8. With the Giants finishing at 5-9, the last place Philadelphia Eagles were also in the race for second, ending the season at 4-10.

In the Eastern Conference Final, the Pittsburgh Steelers hosted the Bay State Patriots, and as the teams had clashed several times in playoffs before, the matchup was highly marketable. Pittsburgh's cold weather proved no problem for the Patriots players and a close match was seen by all who attended. The quarterbacks of both team were not ranked among the best, with Bay State's Tony Eason battling Pittsburgh's Mark Malone. The game started off with a quick Patriots drive that went 3 and out and resulted in a punt. The punt would be blocked and result in a safety for the Steelers. The rest of the game was filled with intermittent scoring, with the score 19-17 going into the fourth quarter, both teams needed to out numbers on the board. The game would end two field goals, one for each team. The first to score in the fourth were the Patriots, to make the score 20-19. Then shortly after as the game ground to a halt, the Steelers scored 3 to make the score 22-20.

Western Conference
In the Central Division, the Green Bay Packers rebounded from a title loss, going 11-3. Unfortunately it was not to be for the Pack, and the Chicago Bears, under the coaching of Mike Ditka, went 12-2 with a fearsome defense. While the Packers also competed, the Detroit Lions went 7-6-1, and finished ahead of the last place, terrible Minnesota Vikings, who posted a 2-12 record. With a 12-2 record the Bears both clinched the division title and the right to host the Western Conference Final.

In the South Division, the Atlanta Falcons and Dallas Texans once more battled with one another for the division title. Unfortunate for the Texans, they lost both divisional games to the Falcons and even though they finished at 8-6, the same record as the Falcons, they would place in second. In third place, the New Orleans Saints, finished 6-8, just ahead of the last place, 5-9, Houston Oilers. With the division title, the Atlanta Falcons clinched a berth in the Western Conference Final, traveling to Chicago to take on the Bears.

In the Western Conference Final, the Chicago Bears hosted the Atlanta Falcons. Under the veteran Steve Bartkowski, who sported two championship rings, the Falcons had fallen short in the regular season, losing 24-18 to the Bears at home. With the second matchup, the Bears defense swarmed the Atlanta offense, but could not score when they had the ball. As such, the game would end with a Falcons victory 19-13.

1984 NFL Title
In the 1984 NFL Title, the Pittsburgh Steelers hosted the Atlanta Falcons on a cold winter day. The Falcons didn't seem to notice it, and if it bothered any of the athletes it was unreported. The game was an offensive game, with both teams scoring over three touchdowns a piece. Bartkowski, the Falcons quarterback, was considered better than his Steeler counterpart, Mark Malone, but it didn't show. The final score would be 31-23, won by the Steelers.

1984 PCFL Season
After the Angeleno Bowl between the Raiders and Rams, the 1984 season would not be a good one for the defending champion Los Angeles Raiders, who would finish in sixth place, at 4-8. Just behind them were the last place Seattle Seahawks at 3-9. In first the San Francisco 49ers finished with a 9-3 record. Just behind them in second, were the Los Angeles Rams at 8-4, and the third place Saint Louis Cardinals, at 7-5. Coming up behind the Cardinals, were the fourth place San Diego Chargers at 6-6 and the fifth place Denver Broncos at 5-7.

In the PCFL Playoff, hosted by the Los Angeles Rams in Anaheim, the Saint Louis Cardinals came to win the right to compete for a Pacific Bowl. The Rams destroyed the Cardinals, winning 27-10. With such a big win, the Los Angeles Rams made the trip to San Francisco to play the 49ers. The 49ers were fighting for their first PCFL Title, while the Rams were looking to avenge their defeat the previous year. A tight game, the game would be decided in overtime (the only such occurrence in Pacific Bowl history), with the Rams winning 34-31.

Re: NFL-PCFL Simulation

1985 NFL Season

Eastern Conference
The 1985 Atlantic Division, were dominated by the Bay State Patriots. At 12-2, the Patriots were far head of the second and third place Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins at 8-6, and won the right to host the Eastern Conference Final. In last place, the Washington Redskins finished 5-9. With the winning season, Indianapolis seemed besotted with their new football team, and the Colts sold out every home game that year. With the best record in the conference, the Patriots would host the Giants and earn the right to win an NFL title.

In the North Division, the Phil Simms Giants pulled ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles and finished 11-3 to the Eagles 9-5. With such a close playoff race, the rest of the division seemed clueless on the field. The defending NFL champion Pittsburgh Steelers went 4-10 and was never in contention for a division or league title. Behind them, also at 4-10, were the Cleveland Browns. As rivals, the two split their divisional series, with Pittsburgh ahead on points scored. As such, the New York Giants won the right to travel to Foxborough to contest for a NFL title spot.

In the Eastern Conference Final, the Bay State Patriots would host the New York Giants. In the regular season, the Patriots had hosted the Giants and won 15-10. In their second meeting the Giants sacred early, winning 10-3 at half time. Many thought the game decided then and there, but the Patriots had other ideas. Bay Start would go on to score 20 unanswered points, and while the Giants would score a late field goal, the game was already over. The final score, 23-13 looked closer than it had been, and the Bay Stat Patriots would go on to play in the NFL Title.

Western Conference
Just like the previous season, the Central was utterly dominated by the Bears and their fearsome defense. Where as last year they had lost twice, the 1985 Chicago Bears joined that so special club of teams with a perfect season. At 14-0, the Bears were unstoppable, never allowing more than 13 points the entire season. The Bears offense, while not of the same caliber as the defense, was high scoring all year and left the rest of the division in their dust. Even so, the Green Bay Packers went 9-5, and made a good showing themselves nonetheless. In third, the Minnesota Vikings posted a 6-8 season and ahead of the last place 3-11 Detroit Lions. The Bears division title was never in question, and spirits were high going into the Western Conference Final, to be held in Solider Field.

In the South Division, the Atlanta Falcons who had dominated said division for the better part of a decade, were humiliated finishing in last place with a 1-13 record. In first, came the rising star New Orleans Saints, who at 9-5, had their second playoff appearance, some years after their division title 1979 team. In second came the Dallas Texans at 6-8, in third came the Houston Oilers at 3-11. With the season complete, the New Orleans Saints travelled to Soldier Field to contend for a Western Conference Final.

In the Western Conference Final, the Chicago Bears hosted the New Orleans Saints, a replay of the 1979 Western Conference Final, though at a different venue. At 14-0, the Bears could have been expected to beat the Saints badly, having beaten the Saints in the regular season, 34-7. As such the fans were surprised that the Saints made a show of things. While the Bears scored with ease, New Orleans faced trouble holding back the tide of the Bears defense. Though it was never close, the game had a first for the Bears, the Saints scored 19 points, the most the Bears had allowed all season. The game would end 41-19, in favor the title bound Chicago Bears.

1985 NFL Title
The 1985 NFL Title, was hosted at Soldier Field, where the perfect Bears were playing host to the Bay State Patriots. The Bears and Patriots had both dominated their respective divisions but the Bears were the clear favorite to win. The Patriots had been able to stall the New York Giants defense, but found no succor with the Monsters of the Midway. All game, the Patriots scored one touchdown, and it showed. The Patriots defense, though lacking in comparison to the 1985 Bears defense, were able to stall the Bears offense assuring they would only score 19 points. Still this was better than the Patriots could muster, and the Chicago Bears won the NFL Title for the first time since 1946, 19-7.

1985 PCFL Season
The PCFL season in 1985, began where it had left off in 1984, a close race between the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers. All year, the two would battle, with the regular season series being split. The season would end with the Los Angeles Rams securing the right to host the Pacific Bowl. At 10-2, they out beat the 9-3 San Francisco 49ers. The battle for third was also of some note, ending in a four way race for the last playoff spot. The Los Angeles Raiders would finish 6-6, ahead of the 5-6-1 San Diego Chargers, and the 5-7 Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks. In last were the Saint Louis Cardinals, who, while fighting rumors of relocation, posted a dismal 2-9-1 record.

In the Playoff, the San Francisco 49ers hosted the Los Angeles Raiders. With the Pacific Bowl in Anaheim, many Los Angeles football fans hoped there could be another all Los Angeles title, and thus may have been to cocky going against the 49ers. The 49ers, while the better team in the regular season, were perennial losers, who had never won a Pacific Bowl, while the Raiders had won more than their fair share. However, that had no bearing on the game, where the Raiders lost 24-11 in front of a raucous San Francisco crowd.

In the Pacific Bowl, Anaheim was playing host to a rematch of the overtime 1984 Title. This time, there were to be no high scores, and the defense were seemingly working overtime to stop the two teams offensive strength. The Rams and 49ers were tied 10-10 at half time, but a late touchdown for the 49ers sealed the game in history, and gave the 49ers, the first, of many titles.

Re: NFL-PCFL Simulation

1986 NFL Season

Eastern Conference
In the Atlantic Division, the Bay State Patriots came off a NFL Title loss to the perfect Chicago Bears and while they posted a winning season, they would finish 8-6 and in second. In first came the Washington Redskins, who at 11-3, won the right to host the Eastern Conference Final and a shot at an NFL Title. In third came the Miami Dolphins at 6-8, and in last the Indianapolis Colts followed up a winning season, by going 1-13.

In the North Division, the New York Giants once again took home the division title, this time finishing 10-4. In second, the Pittsburgh Steelers would post a 8-6 record, but fell behind the Giants as the regular season progressed. The Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles fought for the third place spot, both finishing 5-9. The Browns were able to win out on aggregate score. With the end of the regular season, the New York Giants went on RFK Stadium to battle the Redskins for the Eastern Conference crown.

In the Eastern Conference Final, the Giants defense was expected to squash the Redskins offense like they had in the regular season matchup, a 9-7 victory for the Giants. Leading the defense was linebacker Lawrence Taylor, known by his initials, LT. In the first matchup neither offense could get much past the stalwart defenses, but in the rematch, the Redskins would have no such problems. The Giants offense, led by Phil Simms, were able to score early, but quickly fell behind, resulting in a 30-13 victory for the Redskins. With this victory the Washington Redskins were set to host the 1986 NFL Title.

Western Conference
In the Central Division, the year was marked by a close race for the division title. The defending Chicago Bears battled with the upstart Minnesota Vikings, in a matchup that went to the final seconds of the NFL regular season. In the end, the Chicago Bears finished 11-3, to Minnesota's 10-4. In the third place spot, the 7-7 Green Bay Packers showed little life, though better than the 1-13 Detroit Lions, who tied with the Indianapolis Colts for worst in the league. With the third division titles in as many years, the Chicago Bears were the clear favorite going into the postseason, and were set to host the Western Conference Final.

In the South Division, New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons were fighting to win the division, but New Orleans would outlast the Falcons, and won the right to play in a Western Conference Final rematch. At 10-4, the Saints finished ahead of the 8-6 Falcons, and far ahead of the third place Houston Oilers, who finished at 7-6-1. In last place, the Dallas Texans posted a 4-9-1 season, tying with the Oilers in Houston, 13-13. With the season over, the New Orleans Saints would travel to Chicago to play the Monsters of the Midway.

In the Western Conference Final, the Chicago Bears hosted the New Orleans Saints. While a rematch, it soon became clear that the match was a poor one, as the Saints failed to score a touchdown the entire game. The Bears defense was smothering but the offense proved poor. Even with their own troubles, the Bears would score 16 points, and were winning 16-0 entering the fourth quarter. In the final moments, a sustained drive by the Saints led to a fourth and long. With no chance of winning the game, the Saints opted for a field goal, leaving the final score at 16-3.

NFL Title
In the NFL Title of 1986, the Washington Redskins hosted the Chicago Bears in a match predicted to be one of the best of all time. It was not. In the first half of the game the Bears rolled over the opposition, on both defense and offense. The Redskins were embarrassed in their own stadium, and showed little sign of life. The Bears were winning the entire game and never let up. In the end, the visiting Bears showed no mercy, and finished with a score of 31-3. With the victory, the Bears won their second straight NFL Title, and their seventh title over all.

1986 PCFL Season
In the PCFL regular season, the best team by far were the San Francisco 49ers, who finished at 11-1. The only loss that year was to the third place Seattle Seahawks, a last second win by field goal, 31-28. With the first place record, the 49ers won the right to host the Pacific Bowl. In second place, the Denver Broncos, led by young quarterback John Elway, finished 8-4 and would host the 1986 Playoff. The Seattle Seahawks, finished in third just ahead of the fourth place Los Angeles Raiders. Both teams finished 6-6, but the Seahawks won on tiebreakers. In fifth, the San Diego Chargers posted a 5-7 record, ahead of the poor Los Angeles Rams and Saint Louis Cardinals, who both finished at 3-9.

In the Playoff, the Denver Broncos dominated the Seattle Seahawks, 30-10. The game, though initially close, turned to a rout shortly into the second quarter. The Seattle faithful who had made the trip for the first playoff appearance in franchise history, would go home defeated, if only for the nonce. With the Denver victory, the stage was set for the teams third Pacific Bowl appearance, the previous two being 1969 and 1976, both blowouts (1969 was 44-7, and 1976 was 20-0) had been embarrassing to the two, but the tides were seeming to turn with the arrival, figuratively of John Elway. In the San Francisco 49ers, the Broncos faced a tough match. Both regular season games had been victories for the Niners, in week 4, 24-17, and in week 12, 24-10. With both wins, the Niners were confident in their defense and held the Broncos to a touchdown, 10-7 going into halftime. By the fourth quarter, the score was 17-17. Into the final minutes, some thought the game would go into over time, but a last second drive by Elway, found success and led to a field goal, to win 20-17. With the victory, the Bronco's at last had won a title, leaving the Seattle Seahawks, as the only team to not have won a Pacific Bowl, their drought would last until the 2007 postseason.

Re: NFL-PCFL Simulation

1987 NFL season

Eastern Conference
The 1987 Atlantic Division, was marked by a all season race for first between the Indianapolis Colts and the Washington Redskins. The Redskins, who were humiliated in the 1986 NFL Title, were eager for revenge but found the Colts fighting just as hard. In the past, the Redskins and the Colts, who both played in the same general area (Baltimore and Washington DC), had a large rivalry with each other but that had cooled with the relocation to Indiana. For the 1987 season, the division title, was awarded to the Colts, who though at 9-5 tied with the Redskins, won out on aggregate points scored. In third and fourth, there was another close contest, between the Miami Dolphins and the Bay State Patriots, who fought to not receive the divisional wooden spoon. The "winner" of that contest were the Dolphins at 6-8, and the loser the 5-9 Bay State Patriots. The Indianapolis Colts would travel to Cleveland to face the Browns for an NFL Title.

The North Division, the Cleveland Browns dominated the division and won the right to host an Eastern Conference Final at 11-3. Following them were the 8-6 New York Giants, who had lost to the Washington Redskins in 1986's Eastern Conference Final, would play well enough, but not well enough to clinch a playoff birth. In third and fourth place, the state of Pennsylvania produced two truly terrible teams, with the 5-9 Pittsburgh Steelers and the 4-10 Philadelphia Eagles. With the regular season over, the Cleveland Browns won the right to host the 1987 Eastern Conference Final.

In the 1987 Eastern Conference Final, the Cleveland Browns would host the Indianapolis Colts. Of both teams, the Cleveland Browns seemed likely to win the game. The Colts, though divisional winners, was accounted as a dome team, where as Cleveland in winter was quite cold. This would not be so. In the whole game only three touchdowns were scored, twice by the Browns and once by the Colts. To read that stat alone, you would think that the Browns had won the game. This is not so. The score at halftime was 14-10, with the Browns in the lead. With such a short lead, the Browns could have been expected to score soon, but were forced to kick a field goal on a good drive in the third quarter, and left the score at 17-10. The rest of the game would see more field goals, all scored by Indianapolis. At games end the boo's of the Cleveland faithful echoed across the field as the Indianapolis Colts celebrated the right to compete for an NFL Title.

Western Conference
The Central Division was shocked to find the Chicago Bears, out of the playoffs. The Minnesota Vikings, who had been a team on the rise, cemented their position as the divisions best. At 11-3, they outpaced the 9-5 Bears, and left the 8-6 Detroit Lions in their dust. In last place, 5-9 Green Bay Packers, floundered and impressed little. With their divisional title they won the right to host the 1987 Western Conference Final.

In the South Division, the New Orleans Saints, for the third time in as many years, clinched a playoff spot with a division best 9-5. In second came the 6-8 Dallas Texans, in third the Houston Oilers finished 4-10, and in last were the 3-11 Atlanta Falcons. With such competition, most people considered the second place Central Division Bears as a better team. However true those thoughts may have been, but the Saints won the right to travel to Minnesota for the Western Conference Final.

The 1987 Western Conference Final, had the Minnesota Vikings battling the New Orleans Saints. As both teams played in indoor stadiums, the game was dubbed the Dome Bowl. The New Orleans Saints were the clear underdogs, but fought hard to displace that sentiment. Their quarterback, Bobby Hebert, fought hard to dispel the notions that he was a B+ quarterback, and not a champion. The Minnesota Vikings were led by the equally capable Wade Wilson, but the difference in quality was adamant. In Minnesota, the Saints were vicious, swarming the offense of Minnesota. Though the Vikings would score first, they would not score again all game. In the end the New Orleans Saints won 31-7, giving the Saints a title birth, and the right to host a NFL Title.

1987 NFL Title
The 1987 NFL Title, was held in the Superdome with a sellout crowd. A good amount of Colts fans made the travel but the game was a home one for New Orleans Saints and it showed. Leading the Indianapolis Colts was the second year quarterback, Jack Trudeau, who had outlasted his opponents in Cleveland in the Eastern Conference Final. The same could not be said for this game, as the Colts systematically picked apart the Saints offense and defense. The scores were enough to make the game far from close, and the Indianapolis Colts defeated the New Orleans Saints, 27-10.

1987 PCFL Season
Going into the 1987 PCFL season, it became abundantly clear in Saint Louis, that the Cardinals were headed for Phoenix the next year. As such, the fanbase basically abandoned the team. The team would average about 22,000 a home game their last season. This was odd, in that the Saint Louis Cardinals, were a top three team in 1987, and would hang with the bigger fish in the pond that is PCFL football. The Saint Louis Cardinals, would finish in second place, with a 9-3 record, hosting the 1987 playoff. In first was the Los Angeles Raiders, also at 9-3, and in third were the San Francisco 49ers, once again at 9-3, that made up the playoff teams for the season. In fourth, the Los Angeles Rams, finished at 7-5, while the defending champion Denver Broncos posted a 5-7 record and fifth place. In sixth the San Diego Chargers were 2-10, and in seventh the Seattle Seahawks at 1-11.

In the 1987 PCFL Playoff, the Saint Louis Cardinals hosted the San Francisco 49ers in what would be the Cardinals' last home game in Saint Louis. The 49ers, with a vigor, beat the Cardinals by 10 points, 27-17. A paltry 15,000 showed up for the game, and it was bad end to a franchise that once been as vibrant as any in PCFL history, including four Pacific Bowl's. In the Pacific Bowl, the Los Angeles Raiders hosted the San Francisco 49ers, in their third meeting that year. In the regular season they had split the series, but the 49ers seemed to have the edge. Early on the game was close, but that didn't last long. The 49ers would win the Pacific Bowl, beating the Los Angeles Raiders, 23-10.
